I'm thinking about applying for an internship at a company and I was wondering if interns got paid. I heard that you don't but I'm not sure.

What you get out of Internships is experience, and a chance to impress and get to the head of the line in a job interview.

Really, I think that compensation for an internships isn't even standard for a given company. Paid internships are usually the exception and not the rule. For many companies, interns are a good source of slave labor.

As T/U suggests, a good internship is going to pay off in later years. My yearly starting salary was a least ten thousand dollars higher because I had previous experience during graduate school. This means hundreds of thousands of dollars more than someone without that experience before retirement.

At most you should get a stipend. If you want money, go get a job, if you want to get somewhere in life, get an internship.

Well, I would have to have some sort of income cause if I got the internship then I would have to move from New Jersey to California(San Francisco). I assume you have to have a job along with that?

FYI - Cost of living in San Francisco can be very.. expensive. Hope you have friends/family out here that can help you out. Even if Sega does pay their interns, it might be a little tough to say the least.

Yeah, it would probably be VERY tough. But man, I've ALWAYS wanted to work for Sega. LOL, you never know, first I start out at the bottom and in 5 years you'll start to see some quality Sonic titles! :D

Depends on the company. I had a few friends in college that did internships that paid nothing. Just something to put on their resume other than "Burger King fry cooker 09/01 - 06/03".

However, I also had friends that did 3 month summer internships for companies and got paid crazy money. One friend did an internship with the Mayo Clinic. They sent him up to Minnesota, paid all his expenses, and gave him a check for $10k when it was all over.
