So I have a 12" powerbook, obviously I want to grow with the times.. but heck my g4 is just as good as a macbook. If not better.. matte screen ;). But anyhow.. I googled a front row hack a while back and had it working. Then we had an update about a month or so ago when itunes 7 was launched. I just noticed my front row hack isn't working any longer. Maybe the update screwed up something, I'm too lazy to take time to go through the hack again. (yeah im that lazy/busy.) Anyone else experiencing this???

I know the guy that leaked the hack (the original source). I'll send him an IM tomorrow.

I would give you an easy step by step on how to go about this, because it involves replacing some login files in your system folder via a progam called Pacifist, but the website that all this information is found on is currently not up for some reason.

However, DO NOT REINSTALL the hack, because it will mess up with something in your booting files, and thus when you reboot, the box that shows your OS X is loading will disappear and you'll be left with a blue screen. You'd then have to update your computer via hooking it up to another mac and installing the update from his onto yours.

So, just wait until phatlip gets the info or that website is up and running again.

I installed FrontRow Enabler 1.3, rebooted, got the no-login-screen problem since I am using 10.4.8 (symptom described by kyro above).
Fixed it by using my trusty Firewire cable.
Then hacked FrontRow Enabler to support 10.4.8

If you want to install FrontRow 1.3 on Mac OS X 10.4.8, here’s the “1.3.1″ (very unofficial) Front Row Enabler I used to do that without hosing my OS X install:

I also explained on my web page everything I did to get it to work; but you don’t really need to read all that. You just need to know that 1.3.1 will only work on 10.4.8, and that it works like Front Row Enabled 1.3 did, but without breaking the login screen.

Good luck,

PS I posted this in the comments section of Andrew Escobar's Front Row Enabler web page here: http://www.andrewescobar.com/frontrow#comment-9567
From the comments, everyone who tried my 1.3.1 install seems to have successfully re-enabled Front Row on their 10.4.8 install.
