It's shocking to see how close the sales are between the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation3, but in Japan, the Wii dominates. Alex argues that the Wii isn't a next generation console though. The news that the XBOX 360 will get downloadable original XBOX games (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/15079/Xbox-360-Fall-Update-to-Bring-Downloadable-Xbox-Games) blew Alex away. One of the games that will be available is the original Halo, which is great because no one really has it anymore, because they traded them in. Kevin really likes the Wii downloadable games because they're games that he used to love on old Nintendo consoles, but wonders if there are any original XBox games like that. Alex is right, the Wii isn't "next-gen." If all that Sony would have done to the Playstation 2 was add the six-axis control none of you would call that next-gen so why should a Gamecube with a sensor be any different?

It's been taken apart and shown that it is indeed a slightly enhanced Gamecube with the motion controller and slightly better online than the GC (but not nearly as good as the 360 or the PS3). That being said, it is still an incredibly fun console, with some great games. Just because it's not as powerful as the first Xbox shouldn't change your opinion of the console.

Anyways. Just like Alex, those "miss prints" or the like, piss me off as well. While I haven't had many issues about product deals in advertisements.. I do however get screwed over by REBATES! And with the excuse found in the fine print talking about 6 weeks and with no direct phone numbers to call and third party companies, it's like they count on people forgetting or not bothering to have them stick to their deal.

The 360 has survived by putting games that should have been developed for the PC onto a console, because the PC is the most mature and powerful of the platforms the 360 will always fall short of the "pure" gaming experience.

The wii doesn't try to be a PC, it tries to be a gaming console. Even when playing the new Metroid I didn't feel I was playing a first person shooter, I was playing a platformer. Nintendo wants to continue making console games, not port PC games onto a console. The PS3 has become corrupted by this model. Looking at the PS2s library some of the best fighting games, best platformers, and best RPGs have been on it... and the best game we have for the PS3 so far is a rip-off of BF2. It's a sad state of console gaming we're in right now and the console that i going to make people remember what a console experience is supposed to be like is the Wii

Actually developers has said it's just as powerful and some say more powerful than Xbox and it's specs are similar and more efficient,hell I have been in this argument hundreds of times and if I was arsed I would go grab the links and videos to prove my point about tech specs but it's more than the specs that make that statement about just being a cube with waggle ..it's not just the damn controller it's the entire strategy/psychology that went into presenting it as whole.

I am just tired of peoples ignorance about it and Alex being a damn Microsoft fanbot sometimes,just like Kevin is with Apple Alex is with MS and most the time I find it entertaining but when it comes to gaming Alex is a prick with his 360 praise...love alex and Kevin as cool hosts of their shows but sometimes esp when it comes to gaming they obviously don't know jack squat.

Early DS Developers systems were GBA's with SNES controllers..Early 360's were running on Apple hardware..yes APPLE...I know damn well what Nintendo said and they NEVER said it was not "next gen" I have deeply followed the industry since the 80's and sorry to burst your Alex love bubble to defend him but I own multiple systems made by all SEGA,SONY,MS, and ever Sega besides Nintendo.

Those gamecube systems were early development systems that were brown..since then they have handed out Green Wii's to developers and again it goes beyond specs.

You already have a computer, right? What does a basic computer cost... $600?

Now let's add in the cost of a PS3 for another $600 ( I'm not using the crappy $400 version in this example) and a 360 for $400.

So if you spent all that money on the computer you could have a $1800 system, more than enough to last you for 4 or 5 years. But realistically a custom built top of the line gaming PC should cost about $1200 right now (not including monitor), that price will go up as the new hardware comes out beginning next year. So if you put that extra $600 away then you could upgrade the computer in three years and let it last five.

I'll admit that I don't like playing online games on a console, I prefer online PC games. A shooter on a console is just a cruel joke in my eyes (and that includes the overrated Halo games). The best part about PC games online is I don't have to pay Microsoft to do it, it's built into the software... which is how online gaming should work.

It's a corruption of the mind to believe that a single online system that all games must conform too, no free content for Gears of War no thank you, to what Microsoft believes is an online "experience" should be

But you can play whatever you want, I'll be playing my PC games on a PC not on a sudo-PC marketed as a console. And I'll be playing my console games on my Wii. Anyone up for some Mario Strikers? My place at ten.

I actually agree with Alex. Yes, technically the Wii is next gen. But IMO it in no way competes in the same market as the PS3 and 360. I really don't like the term next-gen for our CURRENT generation of consoles, but anyways I believe that is what Alex's point was. The Wii is in it's own market, while the PS3/360 are in the Next-Gen market. Sorry you feel the way you do about Alex. Apparently he just knows what he likes. Oh, and who said he claimed to the knower of all? No one.

Yes, you could argue that just because it isn't a massive graphics improvement that doesn't mean it is not next-gen. But look at all previous generations. All of them have had the main focus be graphic improvements.

Edit: Just wanted to add. It makes sense that the 360 is beating the PS3 in Japan. The next FF game hasn't come out yet. When it does it'll be game over for 360 in the PS3 vs. 360 fight for Japan.
