Look through the IRC threads. There's lots of things to try when one method doesn't work.

klitzy, download something like mIRC... for the server enter the server listed in the irc thread, then for the channel enter #geekdrome... if you're having probs PM me and I'll try and help you.

Dude, just use chatzilla. It freaking comes with Firefox. Click on the button, tell it what network you want and you're rolling.
Of course, those of us who roll hard, use IRSSI and script the **** out of it.
I realize a geek should never suggest that he has what it takes to "roll hard".
As for trillian.. Save yourself the $30 and support OSS by using any random opensource jabber client. PSI, Exodus, tkabber, GAIM, etc.

ROCK ON! I use irssi with a couple of scripts whenever i'm on IRC via a linux box (either a shell or a Linux box in my house), when i'm in WinXP, i use mIRC with a super-script and a couple of other scripts and when i'm on the Mac, i'm either using Colloquy or terminal irssi....hell, i even have irssi on Windows that i rarely use
