Well, today I went for an interview at Best Buy AND GOT THE JOB! But, one question that was asked in the interview was "Do you know the difference between AGP and PCI?" I really didn't know and was wondering if someone could help me out here and give me a quick run down of the difference. (I know what a PCI slot is.)

AGP is the video card slot (advanced graphics port) PCI is for peripherals such as NIC cards, etc.

Ahhhhh, ok. Whew, glad he still hired me.I have a list of interview questions that I ask when I'm interviewing. I love to hear their answers to some really basic questions when they claim to be "experts" about everything on their resumes. I had this one guy say he was an expert with Exchange 5.5. I asked him a few advanced questions and after shimmering around a bit, he finally said: "Well, I guess I'm not really an expert with that." I said: "OK, I'll go ahead and cross this off of your resume." I'm sure that was a clue the interview was pretty much over.
My favorite question that I like to ask is:
"Can you describe the primary difference between Windows XP Home and Professional?"
Oh my God I love that question. You should HEAR the shit I get fed when people try to answer that. It's hilarious.

Yeah I know what you mean. I really think it's the interview itself that can sometimes make people "ancy". I know for a fact that I forgot to say some really essential things that afterwards I said "CRAP!". However, I absolutely nailed it when he said "If I were a customer how would you go about selling a computer to me and what extras would you recommend" I said that I would recommend an HP with Windows Vista Home Basic for the everyday user. I would recommend 2 gigs of ram so that the system would run smoothly. "What would you offer if I wanted to use Excel, etc.?" I would recommend Microsoft Office 2008. "How about for viruses and other things of that nature?" I would recommend Norton Anti-Virus as well as Roxio so that the customer could burn DVDs and home movies. I would also ensure that they used Windows because Macs can't run as many programs, games, etc. as Windows can. He actually interrupted me and said Mac can't really run anything LOL. YES, I KNOW, for you Mac lovers I am aware that they could run Parallels but hey, I suggested my ideal computer. :D So, for the most part that was the high-point of my interview. :D

If someone asks for Free BSD, Don't say, "If we have BSD, you'll have to pay for it."
On the other hand, maybe some hot spy chick will go undercover at the wiener place next door and pretend to be your girlfriend.

Thanks you guys, but the real highlight, aside from the fact that Best Buy is awesome, is the fact that I'm getting payed $1.10 more to START than what I made after working 7 months at Toys "R" Us.

It's always nice to make more. Put that extra into savings for a rainy day. :)

Great job, NJ! I have always wanted a job at Best Buy...It seems that most of the employees know nothing, so maybe you'll be able to improve the quality of the advice normally given.
Again, Congrats!

I'm not quite as bad as you, but anytime someone who I'm interviewing claims they are an "Expert" at anything I get a little suspicious.
I was hiring an assistant and looking for someone with "above average skills in Excel," I was amazed at how many "experts" applied for this entry level position. My target needed to know a little about pivot tables, and a little about Excel VB. Nothing heavy or advanced, but enough to know how to change some variables or values depending on the situation.
I found that almost all the "experts" couldn't even name their favorite function in Excel! I would have accepted SUM() or DATE().....anything really.
The interesting thing was those people who said they were average or above average all had an answer for that question, and actually knew what the term "pivot table" meant.
I guess the moral of the story is that up-selling yourself to expert in your resume might get you the interview, but won't get you the job.
And be honest, does anyone ever get to "expert" in Excel?

Congrats on the new job. It's a little known fact that I also worked for both Toys R Us and Best Buy in my youth. Hope it goes well for you.
