Hi all,

I am a Montreal native (no Jeff, I have not met Jade Raymond, but if I do she is mine), 16 years old (she's still mine!), with decisions to make. I am considering what I want to go into next year.

In Quebec we have junior college after grade 11 for 2 years, then 3 years of university.

I am very interested in media and marketing (separately or together), but I am not sure what to go into. As long as you aren't going into the sciences you can go from basically any program in jr. college to any program in university.

I am thinking about doing Liberal Arts, but I dunno... I really like the idea of working in some kind of entertainment/media (film especially, although games seem to be more and more of a serious sector). I am also fascinated by the dark art of marketing. I could take Liberal Arts in Jr. college and then something else in university, but I am kinda lost.

What do you guys think? I am particularly interested in Dan's experience in higher education (as the title implies).

Hmmm. Well, whatever you decide, in the long run, it will be worth it. You can learn a lot about filmmaking in film school, but it is my belief you can learn more from studying film on your own. Watch movies with the sound off, read a lot of books, WORK in the field, pose a lot of questions and seek answers.

Filmmaking is a CRAFT, so there are technical things you need to know but it is also art, and that can't really be taught, just explored. SO, learns whatever you want, go to school for whatever it is that you think will make you feel content, wether it be film or not, but if you end up making art in life-- EVERYTHING you learn and do will help!

while sort of along the same topic. i have a quick question for anyone out there. i would love to become a motion capture actor for a living but im not sure exactly where to start. i love film and i love video games and this job just seems like a logical way that i can be involved in both. i know acting classes are a huge help for learning to emote and express myself and well....act. but beyond this step i dont know what i should do next. is motion capture handled just like any other acting gig in the industry with say aditions, agents, etc. or is this a specialized field that doesnt tend to cross over?

I'm currently trying my hand as a paramecium and don't have much use for the internet of late. I'll try and jump in channel soon.

You might want to take some courses in Communications. I'm a Graphic Design major, but I'm considering transferring into Communications for next year. Some of the classes I'd be taking in communications include:

Film, Video and Society
Broadcast Writing
Speech
Film Studies
Radio Production
TV Production
Journalism

It's basically video production, journalism, tv/radio etc all encompassed into one, film school is a big leap (that I'd love to take :() so maybe dipping your feet into Communications could help?

Definitely give it a lot of research.
