Totally Rad Show is indeed Totally Rad, but this question is actually for Danny T and his work on the "Mitchell & Ness" commercial. I just watched it on the Boxer website and was impressed, and dug the music that played over the Baseball commercial.
Danny T, or anyone else, care to share what the little bit o' music was that was used for that spot? For all who haven't seen the brilliant work, here it is:
http://www.boxerfilms.net/
Click Danny T then "Mitchell & Ness" when it pops up.
Keep rockin radly.

The bridge commercial was awesome as well. But what was up with the Diggnation commercial? did that actually air?
It's so nice to see more of Dan's craft work. He's more skilled than I thought he would be.

Great commercials....they show alot of amazing potential that i would love to see carry over to a feature length project.
not sure about the music in the Mitchell & Ness commercial but it reminds me of the soundtrack from the movie Sunshine.
if someone knows what the song is please post i too am interested.

pahaha punch her and run. Brilliant.
Seriously though, I've seen the Mitchell and Ness before, didn't know it was his. They're all very good. They're so immersive and really create a mode. I love commercials like that. The kind of thing that makes me stop and watch them, when normally I'm doing things on my laptop during commercial breaks.

Wow. Well thank you all for checking out my stuff and for the kind words, you've put a big wide smile on my face. Except for Neumman/Chris-- I'm not sure what you EXPECTED ;)
The music was actually used in a couple flicks, the end of TRAFFIC (which I where I found it) and at the end of 28 days later. I have since heard it in a few spots, and deservedly, it's a great piece of music!

Dan definitely has a distinctive style. I'd really love to see you tackle a full-length film one day.

It's nice to be appreciated, isn't it. I have to admit thinking how slick those "diggnation" spots were when I first saw them. It definitely indicated some guiding hand. I guess that was you.
I love that Nike one. I think you nailed what they wanted.

That commercial really is lovely. It's so still and solemn and has a kind of peace to it but it still feels very alive - if that makes any sense.

I have been wondering about DannyT and his directing style.
Not that I know what I am talking about, but he has been mentioned as a director and as directing commercials. He does have a style. Nothing like I expected, he is much better than the average guy. One the quality of the video is above average. Two, the commercial does not define him as a director above the product. Very smart stuff.
I will not see a commercial from now till then and say, "that is a Trachtenberg." I guess that makes him that good.
I truly await the first film he does. that will show more of what we see of him on TRS. I really can't wait.
Oh yeah the Nike one. I see the Sandlot and Cooperstown in there. If more people have been to Cooperstown, they would feel that too. That catch, nice.

They are all indeed beautiful, and Dan seems to have an eye for composition and would probably be a good photographer. One thing I have trouble with, though, is that nothing in the Lexus ones have anything to do with the car. They're almost documentaries about avalanches and bridges, and the car only gets a brief mention. His stuff really is quite pretty, and I like the shots and angles he used in the Lexus ones, but I don't think was really selling Lexuses in any way. Same goes for the Coca-Cola one.
I think the companies behind the commercials are the most at fault here, though. The commercials do show off Dan's skill.
Edit: And silly me, I didn't realize there was a page two to this thread, and I didn't realize that the man who did these commercials posted here as well. I'd like you to know, Dan, that I'm not criticizing your style at all. It's wonderful. I just don't think they sold the product at all, which is the point of a commercial. Doesn't matter from an artistic standpoint, though. :)
Rock on, Alex, Jeff, Dan. :)

So the deal with commercials is that they are written by the ad agency, not the director. Not all commercials are "retail" just displaying the product. Most bigger companies "brand" their product and try to associate an idea of feeling with their brand. Think about most Nike ads, beer ads, those great xbox 360 spots (water balloon fight, jump rope) and even the zune ads running now (which I think is the wrong way to advertise). They aren't displaying what the product does, rather, they are showing stories that articulate a feeling, i.e. Nike "just do it" or playing on Xbox live is like being in one giante waterballoon fight with the entire world.
In the case of the Lexus ads, the point was to articulate the idea of being ACTIVELY SAFE. It would a boring commercial to just show "running footage" (the shots of the car at the end) and talk about the features, viewers tune that stuff out, so the point was to articulate the idea of being ACTIVELY safe, as in, PREVENTING accidents before they happen: So those people that prevent avalanches from happening, the engineers who preven bridges from collapsing are like the headlights on the new lexus that TURN around a corner-- this is as opposed to the AIRBAG the helps a passsenger AFTER the accident happens.
So, anyway, that's that-- at least that's what the point was.
Once again, I'm really happy you guys are appreciated my work. You "get" me and it's nice to feel "gotten." :)

So did you work on the AJ Wright commercial that i just saw last night in which Jeff is dancing around like Carlton from the Fresh prince of Bel Air. Boy, if it wasn't Jeff it must have been his twin.
BTW Great work on what i have seen of your commercial work.

Great job Dan!
(I thought the Diggnation commercial was funny too)

Dan, that makes more sense. I get what they were going for now. I just didn't make the connection.
Keep doing what you're doing. I like your style a lot.

Dan certainly does have a style, and in a way it kind of reminds me, at times, of Tom Tykwer's stuff he did in Run Lola Run, Princess and the Warrior, and most recently the flashback sequence in his segment in Paris Je'Taime.
That, Dan, is about a big a compliment as I can give you and I think Tykwer is one of the raddest directors around.
Thanks for the music tip, I KNEW I had heard it somewhere, I just couldn't place it.
Keep up the good work man!

Haha, that was used perfectly in 28 Days Later, I thought. Great application in the commercial.
