Hey all;
I have a Directv HD DVR unit. And I would like to find a way to copy the already recorded shows onto my computer. I am having an issue with the sound not getting caught up while watching shows sometimes. And they are saying they may have to give me a new DVR, and there are shows I would like to watch during the winter television break.
Hopefully someone can help.

The recordings are almost certainly encrypted. If you did get the off, you would need software to strip the encryption. I think you're hosed.

you might be able to use a capture card on a PC and record the output.
It all depends on how well they protect it.
Like masherscf said. If the output is encrypted then your in bad shape.

It's possible that DirectTV uses some sort of off-the-shelf encryption that's been cracked. I know that removing TiVo DRM is pretty easy. I suggest visiting some DirectTV user groups and see if there is a home-brew movement for transferring recordings off the DVRs.
