Ok, I know that Wikipedia is to be taken with a grain of salt. But. Look it up. Mario 64 may have been designed at first for the Super NES. With hardware limits for sure.
When the N64 came into view and the system was much stronger and the game was transferred it may have changed completely. According to the article, the game was to be designed much like the three Bowser levels. Read the article and I am sure you will understand. It may have been laid out much like Mario RPG.
From what I have played of SMG. This may be the realization of that original game more than ten years ago. Along with the technology, graphics and controlling, SMG may just be an evolution of the original ideas. That may mean nothing. But it may also mean that some things are created by fate. There may be a time for everything.
20+ years ago, Nintendo marketed to consumers after a big doubt in home console gaming. Now Nintendo is again the top selling console to those that may not buy a gaming console. Top selling altogether really. Nintendo may have the secret. The secret that serves the fate of console gaming.
I am personally a BIG Nintendo fan. But the Wii is my least favorite idea for the latest of the consoles. It seems to be a niche market that I just don't fit into. I will buy all Nintendo character games though. They never let me down.
Sega too. When they depended on the best games available for there new console to be theirs, things fell apart. Here's to happy thoughts.
