Learn a few google tricks from Patrick Norton on the very first episode of Tekzilla Daily.

What do you guys think of this new "show?"

I LOVE IT!

I just watched it and learned more in a few minutes about Google than I have in the past few YEARS and I'm in retail computer sales! This is a VERY good addition to the Revision3 lineup and I hope it continues! Patrick is GREAT and I think it's cool of him to give us a daily dose of the best show on Rev3!:)

I liked the daily segment just don't put one out on Friday. I'll have to download the main show again if I dont watch the latest episode right away.

My only suggestion would make this available in a QuickTime and/or MP3 feed. That would make it awesome.

Freakin' love the daily Tekzilla feed, especially this first one on Google (learned so much that I was halfway sure about)! I love this move for rapid content available so often throughout the week, like little pieces of cake for each day. :D

My only thought is that a daily show might be too overbearing due to the hassle of downloading in a better format than flash, taking up space on the computer, etc. I think a show once every other day would be better, but then I'd probably be whining about it being too little. :S

Anyways, love you Revision3, you're pioneering so much of this new media stuff, I'm gonna get into this either as a career or a hobby, too. Keep it up!

Two thumbs up for Patrick's new Tekzilla quickie. And we're glad it comes through on the regular Tekzilla feed.

Keep up the good work, Patrick.

Tekzilla once a week was just not enough for me. The small daily would be perfect. I already knew most of the Google search tips but it was good to be reminded. For future shows, how about a few Palm tips, especially for the Palm T|X.

Although, I'm not sure about releasing one on Fridays along with the full show...or was that just for the launch?

Great show and everything but couldn't you have done a little survey to find out how your listeners download and keep the episodes?

I use iTunes and download and keep the latest episode only. So imagine my suprise when my full weekly Tekzilla (~40 minutes) was replaced with one for just a couple of minutes.

DLTV has turned to crap since Patrick left (I really wish someone would tell Heron to shut his mouth) and was really enjoying Tekzilla but I'm not loading my iPods (5.5 video and 16Gig Touch) with multiple episodes just so I can get the full Friday version and the Daily.

When you start the Daily Tekzilla on it's own feed I'll be back.

Oh, not everyone who watches is a teenager sitting at home waiting for the next show. Some of us work and look forward to watching the show for the commute.

I don't mean to be harsh, but with so many Podcast available and only so much time to view or listen to them it's really annoying to be treated so thoughtlessly.

Are you really that bitter that they introduced a new daily short?

Are you serious? Man they sure are jerks for offering more content!

I like the daily show idea. I just hope they don't try to replace the weekly, very meaty, show. I think Tekzilla is doing an outstanding job in the technotainment arena.

"Dear NBC,

I am not home most nights and can't figure out how to use my DVR. Can you please only show the shows I have been watching between 5pm and 8pm on Thursday nights. I think you can save electricity by not showing anything at any other time.

Regards,
Ran6110."

Ran6110: Its a digital feed. Its made available when its ready, and the its up to you when you watch it. The added bandwidth/storage of 5 short daily shows isn't going to kill you. There are settings in iTunes thhat let you sync selected content as well, so make Tekzilla one NOT to auto sync, and just sync it on a Friday afternoon.

i have itunes set to keep all unwatched episodes and download all new episodes.

sometimes i get busy and cant watch/hear a podcast for a couple of weeks.

the above setting lets me catch up as itunes keeps downloading the podcast and doesnt delete them until i actually have played them in full.

I's actually appreciate the TekZilla-Daily on a separate feed. Friday's release was completely bumped off by iPod by the first daily.

Tekzilla, I do not have my in my busy life watch two more min of content. I'll have to totally rearrange my busy schedule. /sarcasm

Then would you care to elaborate?

From what I saw he flat out called revision3 thoughtless for releasing more content.

damnedeyez
12-09-2007, 12:07 AM
No, the thoughtless part was them releasing said content on the same feed as the weekly show, shortly after the weekly show and with no warning. Admittedly, I download from the site directly...but I can imagine settling in for a long commute only to find your planned viewing was replaced by something significantly shorter. Perhaps releasing it on Saturday or Monday would've lessened his issue, but I can't speak for him.

Hell, even with downloading off the site, I still missed the Daily link and had to wait 'til the next day to see it myself.

Fair enough, but I don't use feeds so I wouldn't have noticed this.

I love the idea of a daily tip and trick show, although I would prefer it to be set up as a different feed, only because I'd prefer to keep it separate from the weekly show in my Ipod.

I agree with this guy, if I was on the train looking forward to a long show and found this one with no warning, I might have got a little pissed.

One negative comment and they pile on. Sad I must say.

The show was great but with so many other 5 min pod cast out there. Is another clip show needed? I would rather see a completely new show with Pat. That would give him only 3 shows a week to host. I will watch and see if they can keep it up. Good luck!

Actually, I'd say yes, another 5 minute pod cast is needed, especially since there are soo many that are just news casts. I'm glad to have this.

My only hope is that it stays tech tips/tricks and doesn't turn into a show where we see the "cool" new web site one of the hosts have found. Kind of like how Heather's part on Tekzilla now is only her talking about some new comic she found. Not saying it is bad, but it isn't what I want from a TECH show.

Thanks everyone for all the great comments. I appreciate the candor.

This entire space is evolving rapidly, and we're going to keep trying to do new things. And we're not always 100% sure of how people are using our stuff. Now we know that some of you only download and keep the latest episode. We will continue to do a daily on Friday as well, but here's a semi-solution: we'll release the daily BEFORE we release the big show on Friday (actually it'll go out by end of our workday on Thursday), that way the big show will be the latest thing on the feed until Monday AM when Monday's daily comes through.

If this were something as time-honored as network TV, the techniques and rhythms would already be established. But it's not.

We considered doing this on a separate feed, but we are in the middle of revamping our feed system... soon you'll be able to create your own feed that includes, or doesn't include, whatever you want, alacarte. But we're a few months from that.

Until then, work with us to figure out the best way to bring you all great content. Thanks for writing, watching and caring.

Also, note that we release Tekzilla on a schedule (http://revision3.com/blog/2007/12/04/new-revision3-schedule-now-posted/) now. Apparently you can set itunes to download just during the time we release the show (ie Friday only). Sounds like we should have Patrick explain how to do *that* as a daily tip.

I like the Tekzilla Daily, but I think that the feeds need to be separated because I don't have internet at home, so I take my laptop to an internet cafe, and boot iTunes and let it grab all my podcasts while I do my surfing, and iTunes only grabs the newest in the feed (for me at least,) and I was mad when I got home and had the Tekzilla daily, instead of the full episode I was hoping for.

Edit: I see that this has been discuss - maybe I should read the end of the thread before posting ^.^

I like the idea of a daily tech information show. I don't like, however, that it's still called Tekzilla. Some of the poster have referred to its as Tekzilla Daily. I think it needs it's own name, the Daily Tek, Tek Daily, or something like that.

Cool, I think that this is a great idea!

But, it seems like I'm the only one that thinks that Patrick seemed to be rushing a lot. I know that talking about Google search enhancements doesn't take that long, but still I think that <1:57 is too short a time.

Glad that there is something like this, great job guys!

I too would rather see more of Jessica. Though, I'd much much rather hear Pat explain something than Jessica. So they need to do a picture in picture thing. Have Jessica on the main screen and then Pat in the PiP screen. Mute Jessica, and let Pat talk... I can dream can't I?

I have a feeling this might dye out like the CAC Mini-Bites or SubSystms.

- my wife and I are happy with the concept. We know it will grow - and I wouldn't expect Patrick to send this off into some absurd cul-de-sac.

We have an array of podcasts which we subscribe to via iTunes > everything downloads automagically > syncs via AppleTV and ready to check out every evening after supper.

Two geeks with different attention spans and tastes, the process allows for whatever quantity of whichever content we're sharing that evening.

We always start with the AppleTV content, first > then, move on to goodies on the HD-DVR.

Patrick - I think you have a keeper.

Just wanted to add, I love the short format. I agree with other posters that it would be better to have a separate feed - less confusing without any extra hassle.

Keep up the great work.

Don't forget that Jim said they are revamping their feed system and once that is up you can decide for yourself what you want to download. Also he mentioned that you can set iTunes to only download during certain times on certain days.
