I just finished watching this clip and holy moly, I almost had a geek-asm! I am hoping they do it right this time. The first AVP was quite a letdown and for a movie of this calibur, it deserves to be EPIC! Has anyone else watched this clip? What are your thoughts?

I can't decide whether to watch this, because I definitely want to see this at the cinema. I have low expectations, but I know it has to be better than the sh*tfest that was the first attempt.

I watched it. And got excited. I just wished the compression hadn't prevented me from seeing what skulls were in that room with the Predator (I think I saw a triceratops (spelling?))

Anyway, it looked good... felt a little too fast though... I'm hoping this is a quick edit of the the first 15 mins condensed down to just over 5 mins. Still, can't wait to see it

I'm so glad you guys have no "Rating System." The way you guys do it is better for the audience IF you put in the time with the show. With three of you, we all learn your critical tendancies. We start to learn who we identify with and whose opinions we always disagree with, etc. But you only get this after a number of episodes. You have to invest the time with the show.

Also, Jeff was quite correct about the PC shutting down thing. Leaving your PC on all day uses more energy than firing it up 4 or five times. Now back in the day, the reasoning that I was always told was that you did not want to boot up your PC often because it was "Hard" on the hard drive, spinning up and down, and the chances of a "Head Crash" were greater. And with the old 40MB drives I suppose this was true. But hard drive companies beat that problem many years ago. If you are going to use your PC again in an hour or less, it is certainly much more convinient to leave it on, but I always tell people to shut them down when not in use. Especially when non-savvy users are concerned about "Hackers" somehow stealing thier life. I tell them, "Hey, if the PC is not turned on, it can't be hacked."

I watched it earlier this afternoon after it was posted over at AICN, and I have to say that I'm impressed. I wasn't a big fan of the first AVP, if anything, it was a HUGE letdown. This one looks like its a nod to all of the fans, and although it seems a bit cheezy at times, it just feels like it would be fun.

I may have to see it, although, against Sweeney Todd that weekend, I think I'll take a hot cuppa' Depp.

DEEEF looks better than AVP1 but still some gripes

Humans arn't needed at all, they're a waste of time in this franchise. Unless they're being used by the preds as hosts for the aliens.
We should be able to understand the predators, given they are the protagonists in the war, audience members cannot sympathize with something that just goes around growling, plus in the comics they talk/communicate.

I really wish the director would give the preds more communication (maybe via subtitles)

I totally agree. I would rather see just the Predators duke it out with the Aliens. No more, no less. I was reading a snippet from an interview with the Strausse Brothers about the AVP film and they mentioned they'd like it to take place in space (possibly on the Predators homeworld?). I'd love to see that.

I think we need humans in the story to anchor it a bit. Otherwise it would seem a bit of a monster vs monster geek fest, probably good for 10 mins, but not 2 hours :)

That said, skip the civilian 'caught in the middle' job. Lets get into space and see the Marines ala Aliens, mix it up.

I agree that we need humans. In fact I think the humans in both stories (Alien/s and Predator) are what made the films great. I think a movie with just monsters would be like Dan's theory of a film with nothing but action. I don't think it'd work. Without humans you have nothing to make the monster's special. Nothing to gauge them against and nothing to emotionally anchor the story.

good point, I guess when I say axe the humans I def mean the whole Earth situation where humans are just wussies who will get destroyed by the aliens if the preds don't win. If they put space marines in the mix that'd be bad ass.

But again I gotta say, Pred's need to communicate on screen. Subtitles would be perfect imo.

Also.... the whole predalien thing...not really my fortay. I mean sure its in the games and stuff but I saw what the predalien looked like on some site and wasn't impressed at all... I really hope it doesn't turn into another Newborn from Alien 4...good god that was terrible

i find this really funny.

insanity: repeating an action and expecting a different result.

the first movie was awful, (or at the very least a "letdown") and yet so many of you are planing on watching this...........amazing. simply amazing. really as long as you are willing to pay, they are going to keep putting out crap.

AH AH AH! I got a whole crap load of movie passes from Air miles.
I ain't giving them my money :P and I'm as hardcore an Alien/Predator fan as you can get.... without dressing up....or collecting mass amounts of memorabilia.

Trust me, I'll be waiting for reviews before shelling out any cash.

When we're talking about 2 of the greatest movie "monsters" of our times, I think most people will give them a second chance, probably a third and fourth chance for that matter. I didn't think Rocky Balboa was the greatest movie in the world, and it borrowed heavily from the first film but it wasn't too bad, and how many chances did we give that?
I'm an optimist, It could be shite or could be good. It sort of sounds really 80's to have some special effects guys behind the camera in what is essentially their first big budget movie. I'll give these guys a shot, I liked the trailers. Plus, I'll see anything for the experience. I actually paid to see The Punisher at the movies (ahhh.. that Punisher is so hardcore with his fire extinguisher pranks and all). The crap ones just make you appreciate the goods ones all the more (in a sadistic sort of, Tyler Durden, rock bottomish way)

Ok so, we get Arnold, Glover and Weaver on a ship, have them crash land in the middle of a big Aliens vs. Predator hunt/war.

There, box office SMASH! ;)

Of course Lance Henriksen has to be in there somehow...

It looks like it picks up right where the last left off so I don't think there will be space marines. There needs to be some humans to represent. I'm thinking some agency has a special task force specially trained and equipped based on data from the team that was in predator II. Sort of Navy Seals meets MIB. I see them responding to the crash thinking it's preds and finding the xenomorphs instead.
