I really should report this as spam... but I won't since your head is in the right place.

I can't see a Linux show though. After installing and perfecting XGL there really wouldn't be anything to talk about and 2 hours of "sudo apt get" or "make ./config" would make me insane!

There are other distributions besides Ubuntu.

There are other distributions besides Ubuntu.

And plenty of other UIs other than ones with bloated XGL on top of them.

Theres other distrbutions other than Ubuntu? D:

I think the show would unfortunately get stale reallly fast. I mean the idea behind it is a pretty cool concept, but would anyone watch a show about Windows or Mac related things on a weekly or bi-weekly basis? Maybe a show on the Open Source community would be a bit better, mixing the use of all platforms, and ideas that venture along with the whole concept of OS or FOSS for that matter.

The real question is how the show is done.

I haven't listened to the twit Mac show and I only listened to one of the Windows Weekly episodes... haha... but the FOSS show is an interview style show where Leo and the other guy (ha) talk to the creators of different Open Source projects. It could be like that, a discussion style show, and that might be cool

But it could also be a more in depth look at specific distributions... or highlight/demonstrate new major releases and talk with the developers of them (KDE4 :D!) or do shows on very specialized distributions like ones designed to turn your comp into a router or whatever. I think the potential is there, it is just something that really needs a lot of planning and thought put into it, i think.

Why isnt there a rev3 linux or just a general OS show? It could keep up with the latest OS news, bugs, and patches. It could also have more of systm approach of installing and configuring different apps, dual or triple booting. etc. etc.

Some more ideas:
OS reviews and benchmarks
OS installs on cell phones, PDA's, routers, etc.

Not exactly sure what you mean here. I dont expect them to cover all the topics i listed in one show. Just merely wanted to list some ideas to get them started. Basically a software version of systm.

Some other topics would be:
how to configure a more secure web browser
how to use tor
how to encrypt emails with pgp (which most people dont do because they dont know how.)
web browsing tips tricks and plugins

I suppose this is somewhat like the broken, but not as "edgy" or as they say "borderline illegal."

I agree, I would like to see more stuff like that. However, I think that's the basis of the original Systm, they just kind of moved away from it. It would still be very awesome to see though.

Heck ya! I think that it would be a great idea to have a Linux show! There are sooo many sites/blogs out there that show you how to perform different Linux hacks and mods, but no shows or video podcasts that show it. There are also a lot of sites that review different Open Source apps but no shows or video podcasts. Revision3 definitely should do a Linux show!

Also with the up and coming popularity of Linux, why not get behind it while it is still budding!

A show about Linux would have problems...

I get the sense that the majority of people here use OS 10 or Windows XP out of lazy "it (only just) works" ideology. This, some how, makes the target audience a bit smaller. Really, systm is the place for any Linux instructional videos, except they have more recently been exclusively focusing on things that are loosely computer related.

I had to register to comment on this one... Revision3 has a show about wine tasting and you think this idea is boring? how is this idea putting you to sleep? lol, to each his own i guess.

like many have said already it would/could be a system for software. There is much more in the FOSS/*nix world then just installing, the show could cover new apps, tutorials or howTo's for all sorts of things ranging from basic to advanced. there are a large multitude of distributions that could be shown/tested/reviewed. it could foster discussion with those in the community, cover conventions or simply show alternative FOSS applications for what most people use.

I have found it frustrating when watching shows on revision3 how a geek/techy show ignores some of the more geeky/techy solutions. Dont get me wrong, i know a lot of the hosts have used linux and dont harbour any grudge against it. But it seems like it would be a nice idea for a show to focus on the software solutions for those of us who dont have the cash to throw around on semi expensive hardware or software like OSX/Windows. I think it would open up the show to a wider viewer base as linux is growing faster in many other countries.

Okay, I'm done ranting... I just wanted to voice my support because I've been yearning for this for a long time, it just seems like a perfect fit for revision3.

I'd argue that the tech output of Revision3 is already spread out too thin. And last time we had a completely niche show, Social Brew (for social networks incase you missed it) it was dire.

Edit: post above me. Revision3 dropped Wine Library TV some time ago.

That is true (about the Wine Library), I just thought it was funny. Any who you might be right about it being spread to thin. So maybe expanding the show away from just Linux to FOSS software and hacks would be better? I don't really consider that a niche market. Hell I'd be happy if the current shows would include more of that content, if nothing else. It's not going to stop me form watching them if they don't. Just something I think would make it more enjoyable and if explored opens the doors to a lot more content (even if it does bore some of the mods here) :)

you know you might be right, i just started watching hak5 recently and i haven't looked at the old shows yet and after i posted this I figured i would search through what they have... I guess i just assumed they only had security related content but that doesn't seem to always be the case. so i'm happy now.
