Since when? Sure the 60 GB version has the actual hardware and "emotion engine" but the 80GB PS3 certainly can play older games. I actually hadn't tried until just yesterday and today, but it played Final Fantasy 9 (PSOne) and Final Fantasy X-2 (PS2) flawlessly. And I think they even looked better than they did before.

Well, it's less so than the 60GB since it's all software, but yeah...it has some compatibility.

That whole segment seemed a bit shoddy...Wii downloads were quoted as $6-10 when the vast majority of the NES games are $5...no mention of the PS3 games that can be gotten through PSN, etc.

Yes, you are correct. The 80GB is backward compatible. Someone probably told the OP it didn't have any because it is less compatible than the previous PS3s.
