If not, are you using IE7 at least?

i'm using both (and the final of both)...overall, i gotta say, IE7 ain't bad, but FF1 still blows it out of the water and FF2 is just almost overkill although i do like a lot of the new features and lower memory footprint of FF2...IE is almost thinking one step behing instead of one step ahead, how they should be thinking..they were trying to match FF1 features and they didn't even think of what was going to be in FF2 so they could compete with it...and i'll bet Firefox 3.0 and maybe 4.0 will come out and add MORE features before IE8 comes out...it's just sad is all...if i was Microsoft, i'd give up on the browser market, still include IE with Vista, but include Firefox as well because i will bet by the end of 2007 or definetly by the end of 2008, Firefox will overtake IE as the most used browser on the internet. It is now and will probably always be superior to IE in every single way.

No. I am afraid some of my extensions won't work; I got quite a few of them, and I use all of them every day, so I'd be crippeled without. I'll wait a week or two.

well...here's something you can do so you can use your extensions in 2.0... http://users.blueprintit.co.uk/~dave/web/firefox/nightly it's an extension called Nightly Tester Tools that can basically trick FF2 into thinking all your extensions work with it (most of them will EXCEPT Tab Mix Plus)...the compatibility thing requires that the developer of the extension be around to test it with FF2 and put that into the code that it's compatible and many good extension developers have left us and their extensions will never be compatible with FF2 unless you use an extension like NTT to trick FF2...enjoy

Opera is a pretty good browser, but Firefox still owns it...even if just for the whole Firefox being open source thing.

The whole "but <insert product> is open source" is great in theory, but when the app is free, and you never look into the code, and have never programmed an extension, then it becomes a moot point. Who cares, just use the best browser. For me that is Opera ... but for you it might be something different - and that is the beauty of competition.

The one thing you forgot is that most of the population isnt as computer literate as everyone on here and they use exactly what Windows comes with thats IE. I dont think any web browser will ever take over IE. I hate to say it but its true.

you might be right, but don't people watch the Fox News at 5 where they say "there's a nasty bug out there for IE, so make sure you don't do this, this or this, but to protect yourself, you CAN switch to Mozilla Firefox"...i see stuff like that on the news all the time so the public is getting information about it...i dunno...maybe this makes no sense, maybe i'm an idiot...it's just my point of view

I installed IE7 and as soon as i did a restart on my machine i got an error message so it was uninstalled straight away.
On the other hand i have also install FireFox 2.0 today and it works fine great programme.
If windows cant release a IE programme without bugs how do they expect to release a new OS ???

I've been using Firefox 2 since Beta 1, and it's cool to see it finally released. My favorite feature is probably the inline spell checker [lol].

I gotta point out that being open source doesn't mean that for the consumer to take advantage of it he has to re-compile it, create extensions or in some way modify it.
Open source software has many more benefits for even the most computer illiterate person, in fact, some of it's benefits are specifically FOR the computer illiterate. Such as, with open source, the more eyes you have looking at a problem, the more secure it becomes. Also, because it is open source, the extensions others create for the program (by virtue of it's open sourceness) can greatly expand and improve the average user's browsing experience.
Not disagreeing with anyone's choice of browser. I don't see what that would gain me. Just pointing out that you don't have to be some hard core nerd to reap the benefits of FOSS. In fact, the economy and society on the whole stand to reap the benefits of not just Firefox, but FOSS of all kinds.

Just wanna bump this because it really works. I avoided switching to 2.0 until I read this post. The extension works beautifully.
Edit: And it worked with my theme (ifox smooth,) too.

In fact, the economy and society on the whole stand to reap the benefits of not just Firefox, but FOSS of all kinds. No argument on the benefits of FOSS. I just object to the knee jerk (not aimed at anyone here - just in general) open source fan boyism - if its free it must be better.
Having so many eyes on the code is good for a high profile app like Firefox, but there are just as many bugs in there as other systems. The advantage is that they get fixed a lot faster, but because of the distributed nature of the development, many of the bugs wouldn't have occured if it was developed by a single programming team. IE suffers from the other extreme, just as many bugs, but slow to get fixed.
For less high profile Opensource apps (take a look at source forge) there are great ideas stagnating because the model isn't appropriate for the development of those apps.
FOSS is a solution, but its not a universal panacea.

nice...i didn't know NTT worked on themes as well (also, if you don't like the build date in the title bar, you can turn it off in the NTT options)

Yeah, Firefox is the top dog, but Opera is a close second.
Personally, I really like v2. One thing I'm glad they implemented is session restore and to bring back recently closed tabs. No more need for the Session Saver extension.

I'm a diehard Firefox user, but I though of switching to Opera. The reasoning behind the switch is better memory useage. As of yesterday I was still running ff 1.0.8 because I didn't want to use ff 1.5.

I'm running FF2 right now, and i installed IE7 at the same time, but have not really used it yet.
I'm a big fan of the built in spell checking so far. Other than that though, i have not really used it long enough to notice any specific differences, but i'm one of the "die hard" FF users :D
Regarding Opera, i tried it for a little while, but was just not impressed at all. Half the reason i love FF so much is the awesome extensions that are available... and in the short period that i played around with Opera, i couldn't find anything even resembling my favorite extensions. Another thing i didn't like about it was that its not very compatible with windows powertoys multiple desktops tool (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx): every widget appears on every desktop, which was terrible for me because i tend to keep a web browser and one or two other things open on one desktop, but the rest are used for specific things, and having widgets covering them was just not acceptable

I'm liking FF2 a lot so far. The spell-checking feature, as well as all the other bells and whistles, is pretty sweet. The new skin's cool too. I'm interested to know what 3.0's going to be like come Q1 2007 though.

All those little "Get Firefox" banners and buttons ... you'd think you were standing in a phone boot in Vegas.
Opera is the high class whore here. Exclusive. Refined. Full service.

I love Firefox 2, the best thing is the Spell Checker, one thing I don't like is they took away my Big Red X button where the tabs are, Now I have to click each RED box to kill them, very annoying.

if you look on the official FF wiki, they tell you which value in about:config to get the tab-close button where you like it
Who's using you ask, lol that's a funny question.

Yup; somethings wrong. I deleted that one this morning, and i already have 200megs built up again... Not really sure whats going on, but i'm definitely looking into it!! I mean, sure, i browse heavily (~15 tabs between 2 windows), but i never had any problems with FF 1.5...
EDIT: Looks like it was a Google mistake (http://groups-beta.google.com/group/Google-Firefox-Extensions/browse_thread/thread/bc160dbd9807fd47), originating from their Browser Sync extension i use  Should be fixed now.

i don't think that was for 2.0...it won't support older OSs in 3.0 though...they're changing the rendering engine or something like that
