Is there any way to put books you already own onto it or only the ones you buy in the future?

If you have a file that does not have DRM on it you can upload it to Amazon and they will re-encode it to a Kindle file. It is free if you upload it back to your Kindle with USB. It's 10 cents to have them put it on your Kindle over the air.

I couldn't buy the Kindle even if I wanted, because I'm in Australia. But we've just had the iRex iLiad released here and I'm thinking about getting it.

The screen is a good 30% larger than any of the other devices, and you can import more formats into it than the Kindle or the Sony e-reader. No DRM nonsense.
It primarily operates on the Mobipocket format but you can convert PDF, HTML and just about all Word formats by using the native software.
Only problem is it's AU$900 (US$700). But we're used to getting totally ripped-off here when it comes to gadget prices.
