this was another old forum thread i started a while back...
so far, my geek influence has turned my brother into a comic kid (although, he's determined to never actually buy a comic, but convince me to buy them so he can read them), and now he wants to name his next pet ampersand....
the middle of my younger siblings, reads some comics too... i think he has a soft-spot for superheroes...
my sister is now a full-fledged firefly/serenity fan and almost dressed up as kaylie for halloween, and every time she see's summer glau on tv, shes says, "kris! its river!"

Growing up, I made sure several... dozen... girls would NEVER turn geek. That's a kind of influence, right? I still try to do what I can.

Most of the best geeky things my brother is into is becuase of my recommendations.
I am slowly turning my wife into a geek. And my 4 year old daughter can recognize and name most of the DC comics superheroes.

My influence haws yet to spread to anyone new. But only because everyone else in this area is already a geek.
and now he wants to name his next pet ampersandAHahah.
I've gotten a few people into easy SciFi like Firefly and BSG. But most of my geek influence has been used to track down those that have strayed from the fold, and drag them back. Bloody and screaming, if necessarily.
I've cause one friend to start gaming again (PC and RPG) and two to start reading comics again.

my girlfriend and i are busy corrupting each other with different geeky things as we learn more about each others interests. we have been together for three months now and we are simply becoming bigger geeks as we assimilate each other's geekdom. the only possible end result is a complete collapse of western civilization.

I got my sister into Firefly/Serenity, then she got her BF into it, and so on.
I also got the Drizz't books on my sister and cousin, but I still need to convert my cousin to a browncoat also.

I got my friends and my father to read A Game of Thrones and all the other books in the series thus far.
Most of my friends and my sister now regularly watch video podcasts.

Jlo. You've influenced me to buy comics, and not be ashamed of it. Thankyou for that. :)

I'm pretty much a role model for every walk of life.

I used to have about a dozen of friends that i hung out with every day in High School, and one day we were all hanging at my house. They watched me play a little game called Amplitude (made by Harmonix, the Guitar Hero guys) and by the months end i had every one of them buy that game. But besides that, not so far. I tried getting my friends into Lost, Heroes, and The Watchmen but they just don't have the time for that stuff anymore. Weak eh?

The next generation of geeks has to be spawned somehow...
On the other hand, I like to think that I have pushed hundreds or even thousands of people a just a little bit toward geekdom. I am a math professor after all.
