ok i just got my new iPod touch and i was wondering if it would be a good idea to hack it now or wait until Mac World '08 and see if they allow 3rd party apps. plus im not sure whats cool about hacking the Touch

I got an iPod touch for Christmas as well. I\'m tempted to hack it, but I\'m going to refrain. It\'s too risky, especially if I\'ll be able to do the same stuff soon enough (without the risk of messing it up).

my experience was firstly one of worry, i thought i just spent £200 on this and i can break it the first day, i used the website to automatically do it and while initially it gave me a fright (frooze about 10mins longer than expected) i havent looked back since.
Apps i've added since are .. wifi stumbler, iradio, nes, chess game, *****x, summerboard, iphysics.

you can live without all these comfortably, its still a great device however keep in mind, it really is very simple to hack it if your inclined

I just hacked mine yesterday. I can assure you it's really easy and safe. It took me about 20 minutes.

Downloaded 1.1.1 firmware
Downgraded
Went to Jailbreakme.com
Installed appsnap
installed apps

Good luck!

It\'s easy but I wouldn\'t say it\'s safe. I\'m in no position to put such an expensive device at risk of being bricked.

I'd say wait for Macworld and see what happens regarding the official SDK. Make your decision afterwards.

My thoughts exactly - mines only a few days old and I'm not quite ready to take the risk just yet. Macworld is only a couple weeks away and I can wait till then to hack it. If nothing else, it's still fully functional and hacking it doesn't add anything that I absolutely have to have, yet.

Patience is a virtue.

HACK its really easy and if you mess it up you can just restore it in itunes. I got mine xmas morning and by lunch it was hacked and running all the 3rd party apps I wanted

I don't get the rush to add anything to your mp3 player.... I dunno, guess I'm getting old or something but I want my technology to stay separate from each other... I don't want my phone to be a camera, my mp3 player to be a phone, or my camera to be a email client? One drunken night and bamm I've lost everything? No thanks...

I dunno - I'll like my touch but wont be adding anything to it... third party apps or not.

Hack it. It's very boring without the hack, and theres absolutely no risk with the hack.

I've hacked 3 iPod Touches since Christmas...I'd say it's pretty safe. Worst case scenario is having to restore in iTunes which is very easy.

hack it

you won't brick it and if it doesn't improve your ipod then restore...give it a shot...it really is worth it
