Dude.... Awesome.
Predator - Right up there for me as far as movies growing up.
Predator 2 - From Arnie to Danny Glover? Really?
AVP - Eh.. not the worst movie ever. Maybe liked it more than Predator 2.
AVP-R - Really liked it. Take all the cool bits from Predator and mash them with the cool bits from Aliens. Whilst it's cast isn't the strongest, it was never going to lure any big names. I truly think these guys made the best movie they could, with the money they had and the state of the franchise coming off of a lacklustre AVP.
I was worried the whole time waiting for them to really stuff it up. I thought it didn't do a bad job of getting the story to a point whereby it could focus on old school style action. I pretty much got what I wanted out of an Aliens vs Predator movie. It certainly hit the mark way better than the first film. It certainly battles to stay above that B movie feel, but in my opinion the best film involving Predators since Predator.

This was completely luke warm for me. The first one was TERRIBLE, let's be honest. This is better, but still not great.
There are a LOT of deaths in this, and no one is safe. In fact, some of the deaths are pretty damn hilarious in their unexpectedness. The cast is so-so, but they're mostly there to rack up the body count anyway.
The main problem I had with the film was the fight scenes. It was extremely difficult to tell what the hell was happening. Everything is black and greeny blue, and dark. So when the aliens and predator get in close and start roughing each other up, it's just impossible to see what's going on.
All-in-all it was entertaining enough... but don't cry if you miss it in the theatre.

If you even remotely liked AvP, you'll love AvPR. My main issue with AvP was it was hyped to be Aliens vs. Predators on Earth and ended up being AvP in a closed building/temple thing. AvP:R is Aliens vs. Predator on Earth. More specifically in a town. It's a good movie, I'd say far better than most of the crap Hollywood is churning out.

That was my gripe with the first one! Didn't they learn their lessons...

Then you'll think long and hard about why you came to watch the sequel?

As far as the fight scenes go.... I just think it's a reality that the design of the Alien looks awkward when you see it clearly in full view. People complain that when they do CG aliens it looks fake, but when you have a dude in a suit in one of the Alien costumes it stands out as a guy in a suit. Don't get me wrong, it's a great design, but it's not like the Predator design which is a humanoid form.
I agree with darknessgp. If you even remotely like AVP, you'll probably really enjoy this. I think Predator fans will like it. As far 12% goes, I don't think the original Predator would get critically well recieved these days because a lot of reviewers want a more complex action movie these days. I don't. Strip it back.
It's not an awesome movie, but if you go in expecting something a bit better than than AVP, I think you'll enjoy it more than you think. Bringing back these two franchises is not going to happen overnight. All I expected was it to be better than AVP and, for me, it was.

That's what i told me friend when i Left the theater. If they did that in the first five minutes it set the tone for the whole movie. Overall I really enjoyed this movie and 10x then the first. The violence was soo over the top and no character is safe in this movie.

I am not sure I will bother with this one. The first was terrible and if all this offers is just violence then I pass. I am extremely bored with over the top violence just for the sake of it.
edited for some terrible spelling

Ok the positive, if you really love the original Predator films like I do, you should go see this just for him. The predator is pretty kick ass in this film (They actually made the predator like the orginal not bulky and cartoonish like in AvP 1). The aliens are ok too although they stick to the fast growth times like in AvP 1 etc.
However the negative, the parts inbetween the action are just down right horrible and make you want to just walk out. It was like watching an episode of dawsons creek or something similar. With the wooden acting and cheezy story of a pizza boy likes the hot girl whose dating the mean jock who beats up the pizza boy but the hot girl actually likes the pizza boy more ... blah blah blah. I mean seriously this crap does not belong in an Aliens or predator movie let alone an Aliens vs Predator movie.
During all the human bs plot I just kept tapping my foot waiting for them to go back to an alien or predator sceens. I honestly couldn't tell you the name of any characters in the movie as I just didn't care for them at all.
But to sum it up, the actual action when the aliens and predator are on screen are cool enough (even though it was shot too dark in spots) to keep watching and allowed me to look past the human plot crap.

I just saw this movie. Vast improvement on AVP but still crap for story. I couldn't tell you one single characters name. If felt like Alien vs. Predator vs. The cast of Dawsons Creek. Starship Troopers did a similar thing having the main cast be all pretty Barbie and Ken type who are just cannon fodder for our enjoyment. But in Starship Troopers did it better than AVP-R. That being said if you like splatter flicks with shit stories this movie rocks. I liked that they mixed together the scores from both flicks. And there is also a reference to Alien 1 if you look at the chair that the Predator is sitting in on his home world. It was built to resemble the Alien relic that was discovered at the beginning of the first Alien flick. My favorite thing about this movie was that the Predator no longer looked like a foot ball player and was actually able to take on multiple Aliens with little effort. I also laughed with sinister joy when the Predator accidentally killed that one person with his Glave.

I did see AvP but not in a hurry. From what I have seen this might be better, but still not good enough to warrant a theater trip. I just think they missed the boat in these movies.
AvP is a great idea. I have the first comic. Great premise but I am not that big of a comic guy. The thing I think gets in the way is the Human factor. Why add Humans to the mix. Make a great kick ass AvP movie where there is a vile hunt or battle that happens on Earth. The Mayan thing as a location in the first movie was a good idea. That is the battle arena that has been around for so long it is explained as just that. Then the humans show up, then so what?
Just ruined it for me.

I knew I wasn't going to see it when I was able to predict the tagline from the trailer:
Trailer: "It began on their world."
Me:"It will end in ours?"

I really wanted to like this movie, but I hated all but 5 to 10 minutes of it. They finally embraced the r rating and got the tone right, but they completely forgot that these original franchises had interesting characters and gave us shit for character development. I didn't care about a single person in the film.
The other big problem was how hard it was to see what the hell was going on during any of the fight scenes between the main alien and the predator. The fight lasted for 2 minutes at most and you couldn't see shit. I felt robbed.

if you're a fan of the movies you may think it's passable, but anyone who can't suspend belief for some of the ridiculous things that occur should not see this movie. For some reason the Predators took some Stupid pills and forget to look down a lot of the time. The acting is B grad at best sometimes. Still... as a B movie it's actually ok. Watching this as a rental with some buddies might actually be ok, but it's probably going to be a let down for those that were expecting at least on par with the last one.

Basically, this movie felt ALOT like Freddy vs. Jason. It was more like one of those cheesy horror movies that's got so much action in it its not scary anymore.
It's wierd because Alien was a REALLY good straight up horror movie. Aliens was a kickass action movie. Predator seems like a horror movie(one monster picking people off), but it's not really scary because the main characters are all roided out supersoldiers. And Predator 2 is pure action movie also.

Better than the first, by a smidgen. I'd give it a 6/10
Violence: Check
R-Rating: Check
Characters: Fail
Proper Amount of Alien vs. Predator Battle Scenes: Mediocre
Plot: Mediocre
Musical Score: Mediocre
Graphical Effects: Mmmm... maybe could have been better.
My Review:
Yes, it was better than the first avp. This one actually fit the "crash and kill aliens" kind of motive. The character development just wasn't there. What made Aliens so good, is the character development of Ripley, and making her the center character with an attitude to boot.
In the AvP Movie series, they're just trying to tell a story, ok. I can buy that. Predator 2 tried to do the same thing, and it did it better. Only because it actually had some character development.
In AvP:Requiem, the major disappointment, is that when they start telling stories about a character, they die. Ok I can buy that, but the main character was "life explained" in about 45 seconds, then nothing else, and is a run-chase-kill for the rest of the movie.
Overall, following the general plot-structure of Alien(s) movies semi-worked. There were marines, aliens, death and carnage, but no one really cared if anyone died or not. What was with the sheriff I ask? Who cares if he dies, it's not like we give a damn about his character. The musical score was there, but not amazingly vocal about the mood in each scene. The crescendo's into actions then sudden drop in volume added something to whatever was going to happen, but it just wasn't of the same quality of the other movies of each respective strain.
I think what happens, is they need to just stop making them because they just don't do the series justice. Problem is, ya ... everyone wants to see Aliens kick ass against the Predators, and the Humans just annihilate the aliens and the predators give respect to the humans as a worthy race. (IE: Predator 2)
The Downside:
Even if some amazing director is given unlimited budget for a film of this caliber, he must realize that it is going to have to be at least 3 hours long. The species do not communicate, (they'll have to have subtitles which will be extremely gay) so there won't be anyone talking other than the humans. Unless they start magically doing charades, this movie will never be made.
