I have been seriously torn between these two consoles since the 40 GB PS3 droped to $399.
I have a Wii, but am missing the hardcore gaming experience. I can really only afford one, but just cannot make a decision.

Ask yourself these questions:
1. Are you a FPS nut?
2. Do you have a decent pc gaming rig?
3. Do you plan on using your game console as HD video player?
If you anserwed yes to 1, and no to 2 & 3, get a 360. The 360 does currently offer the best FPS exlusives.
If you anserwed yes to 3 and no to 1, get a ps3. HD playback built in with the ps3, where as its a extra $130 for the xbox.
If you ansered yes to 1-3, then get a PS3. Generally speaking, FPS exclusives for the 360 eventually come out for the PC, where they can be played with a keyboard and mouse like an FPS is supposed to be played. You'll have the best of all worlds, plus you can still watch bluray hd.
But probably the most overwhelming factors are; if your a halo nut, just get the 360, the PC won't get that for the long while. If you a Gran Tourismo nut, get the ps3.
I personally had a wii, 360+HDDVD drive, and ps3, but after a few red rings of death, I sold my 360 and built a sweet gaming rig and never looked back.
Hope this helps.

Every one of the dozen or so people whi asked me this leading up to Christmas got the same answer from me. Because there's no way in the world I can recommend something to a friend or co-worker when I know it's going to break.

I say go with the PS3. As the truly awesome titles come out in 2008 you'll see what I mean. Especially with HOME, GT5, MGS4, and KILLZONE 2. I really see the PS3 dominating 2008. Also, I heard that Gears of War (probably a later sequel) and Mass Effect may be coming to the PS3. :D

I would still have to go with the 360. To me it still seems like a much more rounded machine. I think another big question is how much you want to play online, the Xbox Live integration kills the PSN for sure.

Def go with 360.
Most games and some of the best ones out and besides FPS it does have a nice selection of RPGs action games adventure games and other genres that don't get the hype but just as good.

can't there be a console war thread that all these things get thrown into? It's fairly clear at this point that your choice of both hand-helds is based on what your needs are. My knee jerk reaction is that you should get a 360, but given the huge amount of features that the PS3 offers maybe a PS3 would be best for you. If you want the large choice of solid games then the 360 is what you want. do some work and find what's best for you.

Love filch's post. There's been like 100 of these console war posts.

Hand-on-heart, I personally don't see much of a reason to get a PS3 whatsoever. Their "exclusive" titles haven't been all that great (Ratchet excluded), most of the good stuff is still a long ways away (MGS4, GT5, etc), and in the end, it just doesn't feel like that much better of an investment over a 360. Sure, PSN is free, and you do get the Blu-Ray player out of the box... But they don't get me excited.
Quick note on Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD: Don't let either format trick you into buying one console over another. Neither bring that much to the table over the other, and furthermore, off-the-shelf players still have a long way to go before you really need to make anything conclusive in the future.
As for the 360, well, I think the bases have been covered numerous times before. Its cheap, it has the best selection of games available, the XBL service kicks-ass, and it seems to be the well-accepted standard as to how things should be in the world of console gaming. The addition of HDMI and the more reliable boxes has been a bonus, but I'm uncertain of the overall reliability of the new boxes by comparison to the origional units (I had a November 05 box last me two years before replacing it).
...Having a gaming rig makes it more complicated as well. Now that my PC can run newer titles rather well, I often find myself debating over buying the PC or X360 title every time. Not cool...
Hope it helps. X360 FTW. After MGS4 and GT5 debut? Its anyone's game...

And Uncharted, Resistance, Warhawk, Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, Unreal Tournament, and Folklore. But, you know, other than those...

Right on! Hmmmm, not to flame or anything but I'm sensing that YSSMAN is a..........FANBOY. If someone honestly thinks that the PS3 lacks any good exclusive titles then that kinda automatically puts you in the fanboy category.

But seriously I have all 3. I play the xbox all the time. I play the we with my kids or when we have people over and I only play the ps3 when something comes out worth playing (uncharted for example).
But 360 gets the most use. And I have no preference either, just based on use. When multiplatform games come out i usually get the 360 version since i play it the most.
I would be lying if I didnt say that achievement wasn't another reason i choose the 360 version. I am not an achievment junkie but when i am comparing which version i want I do somethings think "This might look a tad better but this one I can get achievement points"

Note that I didn't say they were terrible games, but personally speaking, I don't find them all that appealing. I didn't think Motorstorm was all that good, personally, and the same can be said with the short time I had with Heavenly Sword at a friends house. I will admit that I have yet to play Warhawk, I am interested in it, and that is a good thing.
Purely on games though, Microsoft so far has a lot more to offer from the start. Thank the earlier release for that.
However, I don't know if anyone has pointed this out, but in the not too distant future, we've got no idea what Microsoft is working on. Sony has a lot of really good AAA titles coming down the pipe (several of which I'm very excited to see, and in fact willing to buy a PS3 for myself), many of which I expect to be better than what will eventually be offered for the X360.
You really can't go wrong either way, thats the simple truth. The only difference is that in the short-term, you're going to have a lot more fun with an X360, but after that, it does seem to me that it will be a Sony game.

Ok dude, sorry if I came off sounding like a jerk, wasn't my intention. You give well educated answers and that's great.Your pretty much dead on. But give a couple of those exclusives a try, you won't regret it! :D Well, I'm off to work, happy gaming!:D
