Hi,
Why is the "Startup"-folder not used by any off my auto starting applications? I know that it can be easily used to auto start programs for both one and all users.

Yes. You are right. Although it would be easy to simply give you the answer, I imagine you will become more adept if you use the learning tools built-in, such as the "help" menu.
[The whole give a man a fish versus teach a man to fish...]
It's cool to see another Wolf. However, a "ghost" wolf is rather redundant, since most I've seen are more elusive than any ghost. Still a cool pairing of words though. Hang in there. Keep postin' and askin' questions.

Because there is another way to do it. Most companies do this to prevent newbies from disabling their programs from running. :)
Click the start button, and select "RUN". Type "regedit" (without the " ") and hit the enter key. Then just navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
(You can click the [+] next to the name to expand the list. You can also just double-click on the name, which does the exact same thing.) You will usually find any program that is going to start up by default listed here. Just be careful what you do in the windows registry editor. Any changes you make take place instantly, and you can easily mess up your install if you aren't careful.
Another way (I only mention this now because not all versions of windows support this.) is to run "MSCONFIG". (again, without the " ". You do this the same way you ran "REGEDIT".) Once you have the program up and running, click the startup tab, and you will see a list of what programs are being run on startup. However, using this method doesn't allow you to ADD anything or DELETE anything. You can only uncheck a box, which simply disables the application from running. While this is a simpler method, it can be just as dangerous as doing it through regedit. Don't disable an application unless you are absolutely sure. (ie: Run a google search on the name of the program before you uncheck the box.)
If theres anything here that you don't really understand, give me a yell and I'll be happy to go into more detail.

I sort of knew the answer but it still annoys me that It is not a "simple" copy protection flag or something that stops anybody but the admin from removing programs in the startup folder and/or a "lovely" pop-up confirmation.
I really hate auto starting programs that I haven't told that it is ok to auto start (example: Quicktime/iTunes helpers)
