Hey guys. The fellahs over at the 1up show aired their Street Fighter 4 special today. They show gameplay footage, and I have to say I am extremely excited for this game.
You can check out the footage here: http://www.1up.com/do/minisite?cId=3145462

Looks good!
I kind of like the fact that the art style is still very cartoony. Every other fighter is trying for realism but they have gone the other way and made the characters huge with expressive animations.
Can't wait for some release information...I can say that I've already decided on buying this when it comes out.

Yeah, I love the 2.5D look. Ryu looks weird though...
I like that it feels SF quick. Most 3D fighters feel slow to me. That's what I always liked about 2D fighters.

I was kind of bumed out when they said the parrying system was going out the door. I actually liked how you could totally look badass at the arcades when you parried an entire super move. I'm still very skeptical about the whole save and revenge system but the producer did say that he had a system in place that would appease people who liked the parrying system.
We shall see... *crosses fingers*

I have nothing against Capcom bringing out new Street Fighter games but, for me, they're never going to beat Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting, but perhaps that's because I played it too much on my SNES and never really got into any of the sequels.
There was a 3D Street Fighter, wasn't there? 3D fighters aren't really for me, I also think they feel too slow, although I disagree with the parrying comment, I think the Street Fighter games became too complicated when they brought in the 'isms', although I think I'm alone on this one.
For me a Street Fighter game has always been promising as the controls always felt 'right' and usually Capcom strike a good balance between the increasingly complex virtua fighters/tekkens and the overly simplistic mortal kombats, which (at least in the first 3 games) were mostly button-bashers which had the superficialities of blood (or sweat on the SNES - hah!) and fatalities...oh and the pit.

It's looking pretty promising. I like the fact that despite it being in 3D, all the fighting seems to take place on a 2D plane. Which is a good thing after the horrible Street fighter Ex series (the 3D ones ewwwwww)
It's a shame that parrying seems to not be in this one, as for me it was one of the best new advances in Street fighter 3. But this new "saving" system will probably please the hardcore.
I suppose if SF4 does go tits up (fingers crossed it wont), there is always the gorgeous looking Street Fighter HD Remix coming out too

I'm looking forward to the HD remix too!
When it's about to come out I think I will have to go buy one of those Hori arcade sticks so I can use it on remix and SF4.

After seeing the footage I no longer have any worries about the gameplay end of the game.
I do still have grave reservations about the characters and plot. It's sounding more and more like this is going to be another retelling of Street Fighter 2. The characters aren't even going to have different clothes...
Now, I'll grant you that half the characters in SF3 are ass, but the ones that weren't I loved. And I'll be disappointed if NONE of them make the cut.
I mean, I can handle it taking place between 2 and 3 which allows them to draw from both games, but if this is 2 all over again...meh. Especially with a redo of SF2 coming out probably at the same time.
Basically, if Bison is alive in this game...fail.

I can see how difficult it is for capcom at the moment to decide where to go with SF4.
On the one hand I'm guessing they want mass market appeal for all those who played street fighter 2, so want to keep most, if not all of the original characters.
Equally I'm sure they don't want to turn their backs on the few people who played street fighter 3 and enjoyed playing with the new characters (Makoto was pretty cool).
I remember playing SF3 for the first time and instantly being dissappointed that characters like blanka and initially akuma and chun li (later added for the updates) were left out. I believe many people looked at the character select screen, saw that their favourate characters were left out and didn't really give SF3 a chance, which was a shame considering how good the game is, especially 3rd strike.
So I think it is a fine balance between keeping both sides happy without it turning into the massive character select screen like in Capcom vs Snk.
As for the story, I'm not too bothered if M.Bison returns from the grave or even if Chun Li's dead dad makes an appearance as to be honest I never played street fighter for a deep and meaningful story.

I'm one of those guys who hasn't played a Street Fighter game since SNES but I will definitely be getting SF4 when it comes out. I can't wait.
