OK, so, I strongly dislike G4 blah blah. Don't need to go there.
BUT! As a technologist, and a person generally interested in advancing the state of video on the internet and overthrowing the television and whatnot, I still find THIS interesting.
THIS being... that tonight, 10/25/2006, from his apartment, Kevin Pereira is doing a live, streaming videocast with Blair Butler at 10:00pm PST.
You can get the sketchy details on his blog (http://kpereira.typepad.com/main_blog/2006/10/live_videocast_.html).
Check it out if you wish. Any attempt at trying new things and advancing video on the web is worth a look, in my book.

Nice. I'll definitely check this out. There was a good while when I found Kevin Pereira somewhat entertaining on G4. And it seems like when people get on the internet, they change. For instance, I liked Leo more when I saw him on TechTV than now, when I could listen to one of his various podcasts, oops, I mean netcasts, practically any day of the week. And believe it or not, when Alex was first on The Screen Savers, I didn't like him as much. Partially because Patrick was gone, but he also annoyed me a little bit. Now, Alex is probably my favorite person on any podcast.
Edit: Uhhh, what is he thinking doing the show at 10 PM PST?

I think he's a very funny person, for what it's worth.

Agreed. But Aots sucks. I stopped watching it after Sarah Lane left...
I have to admit, that I did watch it for a long time after Kevin left and it changed from Screen Savers. It wasn't that bad for a couple of months, but now it blows HARD!

Hm, yes and no. I think there is this aimosity towards G4 that for some, is there for no reason at all. The show, if you look at it as The Screen Savers, blows hard, but for what it is, is decent enough at times.

For some, yes. But most of us are here because we've AT LEAST followed Kevin since The Screen Savers was on G4(let alone when it was on TechTV). G4 gobbled up TechTV and destroyed it within the first couple months. At first, it was fine. Then when they started changing stuff is when it all went downhill. And I don't even think it's animosity so much as it's just fact now. If a channel plays Star Trek, The Man Show, and "Caught on Tape" reruns, it's a piece of crap. And maybe you like those shows, but you can't honestly say G4 is going positive places.

That's definitely worth a look - I haven't seen a live quicktime webcast yet, everyone seems to stick with wmv. And haven't seen Pereira since krose left the show - should be interesting.

Is anyone else watching this? What's your audio quality like? The video is great for me. But, the audio is very, very messed up...

Wow, thanks for helping me find Kevin's website. Despite all the criticism that G4 is taking, I still think he's a pretty cool guy.

Yeah, I've never said I had anything against him as a person. But, what the network has become precludes me from watching his show. It may be a perfectly good show in it's own right, but, I guess I am not in it's demographic.
As for his videocast last night. It was fairly interesting, to tell the truth. Two people, sitting in an apartment, late at night in front of a computer, talking and basically what amounts to playing with technology. There was no polish whatsoever on the show, but it was neat seeing him essentially learn it all on the fly.
Some of the things they talked about were lame, some were pretty damn funny, and other stuff was pretty interesting. And, despite him saying there were only something like 120 people watching it, it was pretty good quality video and audio once the bugs in the beginning were worked out.
Taking calls live via skype was pretty cool too. Definitely a good proof of concept for live shows on the internet.
One funny thing... during the show, he was calling various people. He tried calling Kevin Rose, who didn't answer. And Kevin doesn't have a voicemail message set up, so, it said "You have reached the voice mailbox of 415-XXX-XXXX" and Kevin Pereira was like OH SHIT and scrambling to cover up the sound and shit. It was pretty funny. Adam Sessler's voicemail message was amusing as well.
Anyways... I really am all about changing the way we think about marketing and delivering ideas and entertainment in our culture, so I really do look forward to more of this type of stuff in the future. I can't wait :)

sites gone...
i remember him saying what happened to g4 on getting reorganized, he said something like no big deal, just putting g4 somewhere else. then stated "do you think i'm worried, no, were just trying to make a new podcast because were not worried about jobs."

He didn't archive it, so, you had to watch it live if you wanted to see it.
I don't know why he took the post off of his personal blog, but he does mention it and thank everyone who watched on his myspace blog (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=33063425&blogID=184810883&MyToken=fdf24f67-0632-41e4-b582-9ab39b959370), although just very briefly. Shrug.
