Yeah, but you have to pay to start stuff on there, don't you?
I'm going to ask Cody if he'd be in favor of us hosting a Diggnation night every few weeks. Bay Area though.

what would be nice is if revision3 were to put up their own kind of meetup events pages. Like here that would allow you to subscribe to them via your calendar software of choice.

Pownce, their Digg blog, MySpace, etc.. They already have several places where they announce events.

I would be in favor of this, as long as it is close to Marin. I dunno if my parents would let me attend though...:(

If you're of an age where your parents decide, I can pretty much guarantee you are at least three years away from being old enough as the usual places for events serve alcohol.

I love how the authorities assume that where ever there is alcohol, people will drink. I have been to many a new years eve party, Christmas party and bar. In fact, I would go as far as to say that my judgment is better than some drinkers: I don't drive drunk, harass/insult people, commit crimes, etc.
Note: Please do not get me wrong. I do not mean to say that all drinkers are like that, I am saying that that is why people are afraid of alcohol.

Because that is usually what happens. Is the bartender going to ID for every drink and make sure someone doesn't buy something to give to someone 16?

There is no need to...I guess that it is mildly acceptable for the gov't. to assume that all teens are irresponsible, but it annoys me.

Most teens, and plenty of adults, ARE irresponsible. But there is no litmus test to take to determine responsibility. A person who drives drunk a lot can easily check the box that says drunk driving is bad. So what we've got is a semi-arbitrary age limit. You can also make the argument that there are ten-year-olds out there who'd drive safer than a 20-year-old, but that's not going to lower the age limit. On this one, the government's actually doing about the best it can, though either raise the military age to 21 or lower the drinking age to 18 and let kids learn to drink safely while young enough to live with parents. There are exceptions on both sides of the legal age - people too immature to drink at 30 and those mature enough at 15.

most bars in this state have a "resturant license" to serve alcohol. they have to serve some food i.e. bags of chips. this gives the option to the owner of the bar to allow underage people in to their place. in fact i can't think of a bar off hand that has a "club license"

LOL, that's Alabama, a state that will allow pregnant 12-year-old to marry without parental consent. :)
In Cali, if the primary focus of a place is alcohol, then it's a bar. I know of some that serve damned good food, but the focus is still alcohol, so still a bar.

Driving is another matter. I think there should be some sort of recommendation system where younger kids could get a license if they were sponsored by a gov't. approved adult.
