Anybody in here pretty good on video editing? What software do you use for it?

I recently had to do some for a presentation and it really did take about seven hours from start to finish (about six hours only were for the encoding). I used Virtualdub which is pretty good for cutting out scenes.

I'm a die hard Vegas fanboy (since the Sonic Foundry days) - it's just the most intuitive out of everything I've tried. Premiere makes me physically ill, Avid feels like sucking a basketball through a straw, and FCP just doesn't agree with me (although it's actually a pretty good proggy).

Windows Movie Maker (crap but usable) or Apple iMovie (great if you have a mac) can get the job done if you're just doing simple cuts.

As far as freeware - Virtualdub and AviTricks are fine, although I'd personally rather bite off my pinky toe than use either of them for a project.

Give the Vegas 7 Trial (http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/download/step2.asp?DID=698)a day in court, you may like it.

This video was edited in 3 hours flat on Vegas: Katrina at the Astrodome (http://www.nsn-wireless.net/video/player-katrina.htm) -- (requires wmv8)

I don't know If I'm "good" at video editing. I use Adobe Premiere Elements to edit all my videos. Of course, all my videos are about a minute long.

I am interested in video editing, and the one time that I tried it was with Premiere and there is definately a learning curve there. Photoshop has one too though, so I would tend to think that the curve would be worth it.

I "demoed" Premiere Pro and it was pretty indecipherable. I could have learned how to use it given enough time. But, Premiere Elements is a little more geared toward the noob. I like it.

You know whats weird I just got a new video camera (PVGS300) in the mail today.

I don't have any old footage uploaded on this PC.
Does anyone have a link or a way I can get Adobe Premiere?

i'm a die-hard Premiere Pro guy...anything 1.5 or earlier though...2.0 is bloated as hell and basically, it sucks wet ass through a straw

I want to use Premiere Elements, but I think I need to put more time that I have right now to do it. Of course, money is still a bit tight now.

I think Virtualdub will be fine for now, but eventually I'll have to upgrade to a professional piece of software.

I ripped it from a DVD, so before I could edit it with Virtualdub I had to encode it into an avi.
