In keeping with today's TRS theme, what are your top 5 in movies, games and t.v. this year?

Movies;

There are a LOT I haven't even seen yet, I'm way behind so just keep that in mind.

1. Children of Men
2. Pan's Labyrinth (released nationwide Jan '07 so it counts!)
3. Sweeney Todd

5. Sicko

Games;
Forgive me, I have no new systems and since leaving WoW I haven't played any!

T.V.

1. Pushing Dasies
2. Dexter
3. Lost
4. House

Dude, what are you doing hanging out here?

You ppl are my only friends !!!
What should I be doing? Going to the movies ? I've worked in movies and tv and something feels weird buying a ticket to see something I made. Manns Chinese theater is down the street from me but I've never been. I watch about 4 dvds a day. I haven't had tv in my house in 7 years and yet, I own 7 tv's. I only buy 1 or 2 games a year and I only buy them if the appeal enough to me to replay over the years. Last night I was playing a 4 yr old game.

I think the real reason why Halo 3 wasn't on any of the Rad dude's lists wasn't because it was a letdown, or even because it's been such a great year so it's hard to stand out. It's really because they just don't like Halo series anymore for whatever reason. It immerses me in a complex universe more than any other game and makes me believe this could be the future, like I'm really there. I find the gameplay fun and that's all there is to it. Each encounter is exact in it's setup, the scope and scale of the levels and number of enemies is incredible ,the weapons all have a purpose and are fun to use, and on higher difficulties it has the best AI in gaming. When, as a massive Halo fan and someone who was extremely let down with Halo 2 the biggest complaint I can conjure up about Halo 3 is that it doesn't render in native 720p, that tells me Bungie did an outstanding job taking the best of the two previous games and combining it with so much new stuff that I'm excited to get to the next mission. In fact, the only reason Bioshock is anywhere near Halo 3 for me, let alone above it on my list is because of "Would you kindly?", period (Ken Levine is a genius).

I'll do games first, since I bought next to none after my Wii got stolen () in July:
1. Wario Ware: Smooth Duties
2. Mario Strikers
....And that's it: no doubt Metroid and Super Mario Galaxy would have made the list, had I been able to afford/find a new console.

TV (I live in the UK, so I'm about a season behind on most American shows):

1. Doctor Who (if you haven't got into it yet, watch the season 3 episode "Blink": one the best episodes of tv-drama ever made)
2. Battlestar Galactica (Season 2)
3. Veronica Mars (Season 2)
4. Heroes (Season 1)
5. Kid Nation

Special mention also has to go to Extras Christmas Special for being awesome (and bringing a tear to my eye).

Film

1. Once
2. Breach
3. Bridge to Teribithia
4. Science of Sleep
5. Assassination of Jesse James

Different to a lot of lists out there: I realise Science of Sleep was probably a 2006 film in the US. Incidentally, we got Children of Men in 2006 in the UK, which is why it doesn't make my list.

I'm gonna do my own little mini-thingamajigs on each one just like the guys did.

Movies:

First of all, in my opinion this was a bad year for movies. Though for the record I haven't seen a lot of movies that are supposedly so great, like No Country for Old Men, mostly because I don't expect to like them. The blockbusters were lackluster, there weren't any out-of-nowhere surprise favorites. Nothing. I still have a lot to see from this (last) year, though and I'll get around to it later. For example, I really want to see Once, but haven't yet, but I expect I'll like it. So none of the "blah pack" are represented here, the "blah pack" being movies I'm not interested in like: No Country For Old Men, Michael Clayton, Eastern Promises, American Gangster and such.

5.) The Ten - Flew under the radar, from some of the guys from the State. It's a bunch of skits that are just the right length, that vaguely connect, about the 10 deadly sins. The humor is great, the cast is excellent, only thing it lacks is a realy story, but that's forgiven because it is what it is, and it's frickin' hilarious.

4.) 300 - Again, lacks story, (even though they tried to tack some on with the wife) but doesn't need it. It's just eye candy, but oh my what eye candy it is.

3.) Planet Terror - Exactly what I was hoping for from Grindhouse, and I'm glad this was first, because if it was 2nd I think I would have been too disappointed going into it to like it as much.

2.) Children of Men - Love the way this was shot, love the setting, the plot is kinda thin, ending is kinda a letdown, but it's really great visually if nothing else.

1.) Pan's Labyrinth - This is a movie that got a completely different reaction from me, I suspect because I saw no trailers, read nothing into the plot, and just let myself absorb the movie as it went. I'll tell you what I went in expecting, Chronicles of Narnia, I expected to not enjoy it, but that it would be mildly entertaining which is what I needed then. I was wrong on all 3 accounts. This movie is friggin' mind-blowing, visually, the story just keeps moving, it's great. All the fantasy stuff is just right, and the real world stuff with the guy, just had me going "Are you kidding me? WTF!" constantly. I was in love with this movie from damn start to damn finish.

"Just Missed the Boat" Award: Smokin' Aces
Special "OMG I Liked That?" Award: Music & Lyrics
Special "Thinky" Award: 1408

TV:
5.) Supernatural - I hated the 2nd season, but so far the 3rd season has been the absolute best. It's back to what made the 1st season good, but has kept it going. Where the 1st season had down episodes, this one hasn't had any at ALL. They have all been abso-bloody-friggin-lutely great.

4.) How I Met Your Mother - Ever since it came back the episodes have been friggin' great. Best show that I never hear anyone talking about. Me and my 2 best friends watch and love this show to death. When all 3 of us can agree on something, that's kinda spectacular, and usually means that whatever it is really is something great. Watch this show!

3.) Pushing Daisies - I love almost everything about this show, the storytelling, the narrator, the style, the idea. The plots though are kinda lacking if you asked me, they need to kinda amp up their story arcs. After watching the pilot I said to myself, "Well, there's not many places this can go from here, I can pretty much stop now." and that's not a good sign when I get done with the PILOT (Pie-lette) thinking that.

2.) Avatar: The Last Airbender - After hearing about this show from TRS I decided to start watching it. Got caught up within a week, and haven't looked back. I'm now rabidly waiting for the next episodes along with everyone else. Seems like there's a lot of drag in the show though at times, especially season 2 at one point, I thought, "OK when is this going to get back on track?" but that's the only negative thing I can say about it.

1.) Burn Notice - BEST. NEW. SHOW. No one is watching this either, but I love this thing so much. Bruce Campbell! Ex-spy! Reason alone to watch. I love how during the show it gives you actual spy tips that you might be able to use one day in some situation or another. The season arc is such a slow burn with the main character gaining just a bit of info every episode, ending is a bit too big of a cliffhanger, but it's a good one. Only thing I can say about it is, I'm not wild about the main actor, he's good but not great, and the girl? Could not be much more unattractive to me.

"My favorite British show" Award: TIE - Hustle / Robin Hood
"Well that season kinda sucked" Award: Dexter - Next season will be back to good though I think.

Games:
5.) Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - This game was SO MUCH FUN... I can not believe how much fun I had... MAN, that was a great day.

4.) Warhawk - Fun online play, but gets very repetitive. Almost everyone is better than me, so I just kinda defend my teams bases. Flying sucks because I always get knocked out of the sky in like 10 seconds before I can do anything. Can't get in a turret 'cause someone will inevitably destroy me within 10 seconds. So, like I said I'm pretty much stuck defending. Stopped playing this as of late.

3.) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - I played a bit of the single-player and it was great, not remarkable, not my bag. First level was great, felt like an action movie, the execution thing was interesting, cool, after that it was just OK, and I quit. Then I was asked if I wanted to try the multiplayer, I didn't, but I did. It was fricking great. Everything I hate about games online, NOT IN THIS ONE! There's no one gun hidden in some remote corner of the map that everyone's fighting for so they can just own the map for like a minute and a half, people aren't sniping from some place they got by glitching and you can't tell where they are. People aren't hogging health packs. NONE OF IT! Everyone's on even ground, and I love it! Level 43 and I've not even had it a week.

2.) Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - Expected to hate hate hate this, but I ended up love love loving it. I now want to check out the rest of the R&C series thanks to this. Played it through all the way 3 times I had so much fun, even just leveling up the weapons was fun.

1.) Guitar Hero 3 - Sucked for a while because I couldn't get the lag setting right and I was messing things up left & right, but with the new patch I think it's fixed now. Of course now the online is broken, which is what I like the most. Still, I have to give it to this simply because, well, I do. Ask anyone, what is that guy about on videogames, they will say Guitar Hero. Why no Rock Band? Sounded like fun until I got it and realized no one can play it competently enough for it to be fun.

My "Wish I'd Had Time To Play Them" Awards:
Odin Sphere
Okami
GrimGrimoire
Dawn of Mana
Folklore
Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter

I haven't played enough games to make a list, so I'll just give my #1 to portal. If you haven't played it, stop reading and buy it now. Nuff said.

For movies, nothing wowed me. Probably cause i haven't had much time to get down to a theater lately. Honorable mention to transformers for A: being a good film and B: not ruining my childhood like every other remake/franchise movie.

On to TV, my main addiction:
1. How I met your mother
2. Robin Hood
3. Studio 60 on the sunset strip
4. Chuck
5. Pushing Daisies

There is apparently a patch coming that will allow band world tour play online. Probably won't be as fun as everyone in the same room, but at least you'll have people to play with.

Where's the love for Battlstar Galactica? Sheesh. For me it's the best show still on television (I will miss you Sopranos).

In no order

Movies

- The Assasination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford (Beautiful, Poetic)
- Gone Baby Gone (Casey Afleck owned this year)
- Charlie Wilson's War (I <3 Sorkin)
- No Country for Old Men (Cohen brothers gold)
- Death Proof (Why don't people use great actors like Kurt Russell anymore?)

TV

- Battlestar Galactica (Always big issues, great character development, bold storyline twists)
- Lost (you people who stopped watching, should be watching)
- Flight of the Conchords (rofl)
- The Mighty Boosh (rofl, wtf?, rofl)
- The Unit (your always playing catch up, but it's worth it)

Video Games

- Call of Duty 4 (Epic, Fast and Furious)
- Super Mario Galaxy (Pure gameplay)
- God of War II (Epic, awesome, somebody make this movie)
- Bioshock (artful)
- Orange Box (You get how many brilliant, gameplay redefining games?)

Top 5 Games and the reasons behind them

5: Call of Duty 4: This 3A Title didnt grab me and personaly im sorta regretting getting it for christmas. Now the reason i say that is all im really understand of the game so far (and im hoping im FAR from done with it) I cant get use to being part of the special forces team and then that sargent without a real reason) but as a game its own OMG its amazing because of the realism and intelegence and patience you have to have to make it through a mission. I can see why the game gets the praise it does.

4: Gear of War (PC): Everything you love about Gears of War plus extra level and the amazing boss fight from the monster you see in Level 4. Nothing made me happier than sniping that things legs and just wailing on more enemies as i got the back story behind exactly how the team got to the train station.

3: Super Mario Galaxies: What can i say that hasnt already been said about this game. It redefines and reinvents the Mario franchise. The classical music redone; the levels smartly designed.

2: The Orange Box: This game is amazing for 2 reasons. 1) its 60 bucks for 5 games. 2) one word: Portal. I LOVED that game. The design, the challenge levels, and of course gladis. Not to mention (if you search for them) the Black Mesa jokes hidden around the later levels in the game.

1: BioShock: Epic storytelling at its finest. If they ever choose to option this game into a film they better take a minimum of 2 films to truely let you grasp the story and scope of it. It grabes you at the begging with a plane crash and light house and doesnt let go even after youve beaten the game. Honeslty there are levels in games where you go "I LOVED that level" and play through just for that one level. Bioshock will make you play the whole game over again....if for nothing else than to see the 2 seperate endings. Its amazing game design from begging to end and was greatly, and sadly, eclipsed by falling under the same year as Halo 3 (which story wise was a HUGE dissappointment and most likely wouldnt even make my top 10 games for the year even with the multiplayer aspect)

Movies:
(Honestly i havent seen many movies this year so ill have to go through the motions and just say the names and not really be able to back them up)

5: Fist full of Quarters
4: Transformers
3: Planet Terror
2: Ratatoulle
1: No Country for Old Men

TV: (New TV)

5: Heroes
4: Supernatural
3: Dr. Who Series 3
2: Avatar
1: Pushing Dasies

Films:
No Country for Old Men
I Am Legend, if only the second act wasn't so god-damn stupid
Sweeney Todd
300 would've have been a good movie if American actors were used and if I had not seen the trailer

Shows:
Diggnation and The Totally Rad Show
The Dog Whisperer
MythBusters
Human Weapon and Last One Standing, I'll have to check out The Ultimate Fighter

Based on reviews and from what I've seen, BioShock deserves to be game of the year.

Holy crap - thats 3 BBC productions ... about time they aired in the US. I'd also add in Doctor Who, as well as Jericho (yay! its coming back), and Daylight (RIP). Notable mentions to Drive (corny, but shaping up to be fun before it was cancelled), Moonlight, and the Dresden files.

Movies

1. Children of Men - I'd have completely forgotten about it had Jeff not said it. My favorite film of all time, watch it religiously.

2. Juno - Feel good movie of the year, smiled the whole way through, loved every second of it....well, minus the intro with Dwight.

3. Control - Massive Joy Division fan, waited for this for so long, bit of a let down, but still a fantastic movie.

4. Sunshine - My "nerd" film of the year, I love sci-fi and this was a great genre film.

5. Gone Baby Gone - I live in New England, they hit it dead on with everything in this flick.

Honorable mention to Stardust, the film that surprised me the most this year (in a good way).

Television

1. Heroes - Season One was ****ing ridiculous! No denying that.

2. The Hills - I'm sorry, I can't get enough of this show, the producers do an amazing job.

3. Battlestar Galactica - Again, ****ing insane!

4. Pushing Daisies - I haven't watched the last....4 or 5 episodes, but from what I had seen I loved this show, charming as all hell.

5. Internet TV - Ok...this is a kind of stupid pick, but all the stuff like Revision 3 popping up has blown me away, amazing free content available out there.

Games

1. Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 - This is definitely a "my pick" type of thing, this is my crack.

2. Football Manager 2008 - Again, can't get enough of this stuff.

3. Halo 3 - I don't even own the game anymore, but it was such an amazing experience from waiting in line, to online play with my friends from my old town etc.

4. Mass Effect - Only play a small bit of the game but I love it.

5. Metroid Prime 3 - Great game and the Wii controls made it sooooo good.

Since I haven't seen much TV or played many games this year I will give my top 10 movies of 2007.

1. Once

4. Knocked Up
5. Rescue Dawn
6. Zodiac
7. 3:10 to Yuma

I think it was a great year for movies but I can't remember a film in 07 that I enjoyed more then Once. The first scene in the music shop where Marketa and Glen perform "Falling Slowly" was spellbinding. Absolutely brilliant. I bought the soundtrack on iTunes before the Movie was over.
