I'm not a linx person so using Knoppix STD is out. I need to get the SAM and system files off a Window XP machine. Does anyone know how I can go about accessing windows\system32\config directory??? or a different program to get the Windows user log on password. I have tried Ophcrack with no luck.
This is very important since I need to find out what a cheating spouse is doing.
Thanks and I would appreciate the help!!!!

sounds like you are asking people to help you break on to someone else's machine. i believe that is against the law.

when its your wife and she's cheating on you......game on
if you see marriage as a game you need some psychological counseling STAT

I am not going to comment on the legality or moral issues of using this, but I will say that it saved my ass when my IT guy shipped me a new laptop, and forget to tell me the admin password so that I could log on ... and then went on vacation for a month. It also helped my wife access files on her machine when she got locked out due to a network outage.

Once you have the suspicion of being cheated on, you've got problems. What if you find out she is by snooping and breaking into her machine? What if you find nothing? Will you keep looking? Too bad you didn't tell us something like you got locked out or something.

and forget to tell me the admin password so that I could log on ...This (http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/) works fairly well for me for resetting forgotten returned laptop passwords. I'm going to try the one you posted too though. Looks interesting.

Looks interesting.I've used that one before as well. I didn't read the full message about him already using Ophtcrack ... and wasn't going to recommend the other one because if he isn't familiar with Linux, then the command line driven interface is going to scare the crap out of him.
Of course, if it is just access to files he needs then booting into a bootable linux distro, and mounting the drive will allow him to see the contents of the drive  ... and it doesn't destroy/reset the original password (which would kinda give away that something happened on the computer).

If you still suspect that she's cheating on you, head over to
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/index.html
or, simply search on torrents/google after these programs

Don't all these tools just allow you to reset passwords or set new ones?
He wants to find the one his wife is using without her knowing.
As far as I know you can't do that unless you put a keylogger on there.
