View Full Version : Does Revision3 need a new flashplayer?

Is it just me, or does the Revision3 flash player tend to be a little unstable when watching a show. It doesn't run smoothly until it is fully loaded and if you move your mouse around it causes a momentary slowdown in the video. Perhaps they should check into getting a video player such as the one YouTube has or something like that for example. Does anybody else have an opinion on this?

I personally like it...Have noticed some choppiness but I usually download it anyway. Good times.

Oh yeah, I definitely think the flashplayer is great, I'm just adderessing the "choppiness" that you speak of. :D

It works great for me.
One thing that drives me nuts though, is say I want to skip to the 14 minute mark in an episode of Diggnation to catch a URL or something. Well I 'd have to wait for 14 freakin' minutes of video to load first, just so I can watch the 10 seconds of video I wanted!
Why can't I just skip to the point I want, and have it start loading from there, why??

Yeah, that's a problem too. Also, you can't click on an EXACT spot in the timeline for some reason. I think that's one of the things that Google video got right.

Yeah, the video always gets pixelated.

Works great for me in XP (IE and Firefox) - haven't tried it on fedora...
I think the choppiness is due to bitgravity's flash comm server or encoding, it can't be on2v6 with that pixelation (probably since linux doesn't support flash 8 yet and they're trying to stay linux friendly?)
As far as the player - a revamp would be nice, youtube's got some great actionscript/media component customization - you can scrub through the video smoothly, not to mention an AMAZING distribution network.
Hypothetically, if I had the flash8 source file for youtube's player, I'd probably give it to anyone who pm'ed me ;)
Yea I like it, simple and has what ya need. No changes are welcome hehe

I like the flash player but its something I only used once to watch an episode of Geekdrome. I prefer just downloading the video so i can jump to any point if I have to go somewhere or turn off my computer for any reason.

To my knowledge, the flashplayers that YouTube, Google Video, And BitTech/Rev3 use are all based off the same exact flash video player by macromedia. It essentially comes down to the interface design and what features they want to give you through that design.
Somebody of a more knowledgeable status can correct me if I am wrong, but if you notice, you are ALWAYS pulling the same video player base from macromedia, wether through the embedded script, or within the flashplayer itself.
BitGravity wrote their own flashplayer. It's not MacroMedia's.

Ah.
how come the code has a pointer to macromedia then? i dont understand that...

I only ask for a volume control. It is inexcusable to have a flash video without one these days.
