Tell me if you've heard this already...
M. Night Shyamalan has signed on to write, direct, and produce a live-action version trilogy of Avatar. The first film will have the same plot as the first book. Apparently he became interested in the series when his daughter asked for a waterbender necklace.
I love Shyamalan's movies and I personally can't wait!

Old news (see TRS: Ep 6).
But the encouraging thing is that Shyamalan has come out of his stagnating creative bubble of deluded self-worship and is working very closely with Bryan and Mike developing the trilogy.
THE HAPPENING is in post-production, but I wonder if the strike is going to delay work on the film AVATAR even further.

Pretty much any movie not written before the strike is being affected. It sucks. I hope the writers can reach a deal soon.

I've read that Shammy, Mike and Bryan have been endlessly emailing each other with idea about the films, but I don't know if that would contravene Guild rules.
In fact, the longer they have to discuss and develop the material, the better the end product will end up being.
It's certainly prefferable to rushing something into production to beat the strike, like a lot of upcoming movies have been.

I hope this movie really happens. Avatar FTW!

I'm interested to see where this goes, but I have an above average amount of cynicism that this will not be as good as the show, and certainly not better. Definitely want to see who they cast, and if they are at all believable...

Yeah, he's not a director I've been a fan of for several years now.
If the movies are fairly faithful to the show though I don't see how it could suck too bad.

We reported recently at MNightFans.com that Shyamalan has been scouting large buildings in the Philly area that he could use as green screen stages. They've probably been discussing locations and casting since the stike started instead of story ideas, concerns, etc.
We also did some digging and found out that Jason Isaac's (most known as Lucius Malfoy in the HP movies, but who was also the voice of Commander Zhao in Book 1 of Avatar) recently meet Shyamalan at one of the latest Harry Potter premieres, and said he'd be thrilled with the chance to work with Shyamalan. I don't believe Jason Isaac's would be cast as Zhao for a live action version of the movie, but seeing as how casting for this movie is going to be extremely tricky, I wouldn't count him out just yet.
