So yeah, with the last two times Ive used DVD-ROM to rip a DVD and the DVD-RW to burn a DVD my PC has gotten really slow when its doing so.
It didn't do this before. I could be burning/ripping in background while doing other things.
Any ideas why it started doing this? Its REALLY annoying. When I mean the PC gets slow it gets SLOW.... the mouse laaaaags behind... if I try to load a program it will take foooooooooooorever, etc. and it didn't do this before.

How much free space on your HDD? It could be an issue with the swap file size or temporary file space required buffering the burn.

Swap out the dvd burner for another if you have one to see if it's a hardware issue.

I think that's the problem. I'm running out of space on the HDD that the burning programs are on. I'm going to check if there is a way to put files on my 2nd hdd with plenty of space.

I thought it was universally understood you should leave your PC be when burning anything?

That's what I've always done. I'm afraid of screwing up the burn. Probably just paranoid though.

I don't think its a paranoia thing, if you ask me, it makes complete sense. First of all, burning a CD or DVD doesn't take all that long, and secondly, your computer is (i believe) supposed to dedicate as many resources as it can to a hardware interrupt like that.. Definitely correct me if i'm wrong though

That is what computers are for, multitasking. If it can handle it then why not? I would say that the lack of space on the hard drive is causing the slow downs, the program needs a place to render the data before transfering it. Move all of your porn onto the other drive and it should be fine. ;)

I think that rule was pretty good about five years ago when CPUs and burners were slower. I haven't had a problem with burning errors in quite some time. I think as long as your HDD has enough free space and your Burner is not plugged into the same connector as the HDD, there shouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't want to do anything while trans-coding DVD video, that takes a bit of CPU power.
I'm curious how old his computer is.
