GigaOm talked about Xobni (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OK9YIVN2Sgs) a while ago and I emailed them requesting to be allowed to get into their preview program.
Anyway, I got in and it's pretty neat. If you use Outlook, and are interested (watch the video above if you don't know what it is) then let me know. I have 4 invites I can give out. (possibly 5... one is currently reserved for a friend of mine, however, he hasn't responded to my email yet as to if he wants it or not...)

it is brilliant
no i don't want an invite
it would be good for business but personally i do not want everyone who is a contact of someone i am contacting to 'know' me or even know whom i am contacting
some of my communications in fact many are with an implied 'non disclosure agreement'

I'm not sure what you're saying here. Maybe you misunderstood what this program does? It basically creates a local relational database for you to view a bunch of information quickly regarding your email. It doesn't give you any information that you couldn't figure out yourself if you took the time to do it. It just organizes it very well.

maybe
i watched it twice
it seems that it allows someone in contact with the 'owner' to see who else is in communication with the 'owner'
is that right ?

*edit*
I think I see what you are talking about. The "email hidden social network?" This is still gathered from information that you would already know anyway. Say I email you and CC John Doe or something, I'm assuming that's where it would collect that information from. Information you would already have anyway.

'his assistant's name appears high on adam's connected people'
so you would know who adam is connected with
now all of adam's business is not necessarily your business
some is personal
and some may have to do with business ventures that the adam and/or other party (or parties) involved does not want everyone to know
especially since it includes phone numbers

This is the basis of CRM marketing. Its all about the "Relationships" present. This is actually a core component of what I do for a living (yes, I work for a CRM software company).
I am dubious of "social networking" sites like facebook or myspace, because there is very little personal connection ("Please add me to your friends list"), but building networks basded on business relations is a different story. Knowing when someone is commonly available, and their phone number, and their assistants name (or people they commonly cc) is really important. Its the sort of data that we track internally, but its a manual process. This automates that process really nicely. Its not going out and gathering secret data, it is just making info that people have provided to you available in an easier format.
To be honest, the most useful too I have on my PC is google desktop. I use it for searching Outlook and my many many gigs of proposals all the time. Sometimes all I remember is a name, or a company, and need to dig to find other details. Xobni looks like it will gather a lot of that for me.
If they hooked it into LinkedIn, then it would be a killer business contact tool.

i get that as i said it is brilliant
but for me for example i don't need for sony to know if i am also talking to emi and i certainly don't need for both sony and emi to see which i contact more
and my contact at sony or emi might not want anyone else to know either
it is not that it is a dark 'secret' it just protects projects till they are ready for exposure
this is just an example

this is just an exampleYou see, the thing about this is that Sony and EMI don't need to know who you are talking to (and never will - until they get pissed that you signed with the competition) - but you do. And you need to know that the best time to talk to Bob at EMI is at 11:00am, and that his assistant is Shaynala.

hey, could you spare me an invite to Xobni?
tnx,
SPWell... I was kind of doing it for the REV3 members and not mr. lurker one post.
However...
If all the requests aren't taken in a few days, I'll send you one (which to be honest, you're odds are lookin' pretty good at this point...)

Thanks to Crumbles, I now have a couple to give away as well.
Just be aware that before requesting an invite that this requires Microsoft Outlook (not Outlook Express), and as such only run in a Windows environment. Installation into a Windows XP / Outlook 2007 setup was extremely smooth.
You nasty Apple users and Microsoft bashers can go suck eggs :p

Well.. though I appreciate your prompt answer, I don't agree prejudgment in using a lurker word; definitely doesn't help to promote the forum.
Your thought doing good for REV3 should include getting new members isn't it?
To be honest I came to know of Xobni yesterday & was interested in getting an invite ASAP.
Searched internet came across REV3 forum, got impressed to find some invites & discussions about Xobni here. Thought I found a good forum.
but anyways.. If I get a invite good.. (I'm still looking around), otherwise no issues I'll still be visiting REV3 regularly.
Good day.

Thanks to Crumbles, I now have a couple to give away as well.:pWhat do you think about it so far? I'm surprised to say that even after only a few days of usage, I'm really digging it. The only problem I've found with it, is if I don't have outlook open, and I click on a mailto:// hyperlink, it takes about 3-4 seconds for outlook to load the blank email now.
Other than that, I think it's great. Works really well, fast, and haven't had any crashes with it.

have you found a way to view who your top ranks are? I haven't found a way to view just that data yet. Maybe you can't...
