I'm big into photography, and it seems discussion of this is kind of scattered throughout threads in this forum (correct me if I'm wrong), so here's one devoted to it. could be news, could be posting your own stuff, which cameras/film/digital/equipment to buy, etc.
most of my stuff is at seanokanephoto.com
flickr account is sokane1

I use a digital camera. A Nikon Cool Pix 4800. Has a pretty good zoom for a camera its size.
I don't have any pictures online just yet. But as soon as I do, I'll post a link too.
Nice work, by the way. Do you do publicity photos?

Revision3 doesn't have a program devoted toward digital photography. So, there is no continuing technical discussion about photography. As a non-professional photographer myself, I'm always open to such things.
I've been taking pictures for about thirteen years. A started with a 35mm point-and-shoot, but soon became unsatisfied. I quickly progressed through a series of entry-level consumer SLRs like the Olympus IS-20 and finally ended up using a 1984 Vintage Canon AE-1P. Over the next six years, I used this camera exclusively and a massed a collection of Canon FD glass. Used FD lenses are easy to find and really inexpensive since they're all manual focus.
After the birth of my daughter nearly 4 years ago, I tried to stick to the Canon AE-1P, but I found the camera cumbersome with all of the baby stuff. A relative passed to be a Professional Nikon n6006 kit that she wasn't using any more. This included everything I needed and was lighter than the Canon. This helped a little, but I found that keeping up with the continuous expectation of online baby pictures was becoming prohibitively expensive with a film SLR. But, I was a film snob.
Christmas 2005, my mother-in-law gifted me a Canon A-400 series point and shoot. I think this was a hint that she wanted more photos. With this, a began to see the economy and versatility of using a digital format. However, the point-and-shoot was not at all satisfying.
That same holiday, my best buddy who is also into photos, got a Canon Digital Rebel XT from her husband. She let me try it out and I liked what It did.
In a few months I had saved the money for a digital SLR of my own. At that time, the Digital Rebel XT and The Nikon D50 were rated nearly the same. The Canon slightly nosed the Nikon because of the 8 MP CMOS opposed to the Nikon's 6.1 MP CCD. But, I already had all the Nikon glass, so I chose the Nikon. It also turns out that with my big hands, the larger Nikon D50 is a little more conformable to use.
One day I'll upgrade to the D80 or even the D200. But, since then I've has a second baby...so It won;t be soon.
A list of all my camera stuff would be way too long, I'll just list the stuff I use regularly. But, it's not the camera that takes a good picture. Equipment alone does not make you good.
Nikon D50 body
Nikon SB 600 bounce flash
Nikon AF 50mm F1.8D standard lens
Nikon AF 28-80mm F3.3-5.6G kit lens
Nikon AF-S 24-120mm F3.5-5.6G VR zoom lens
Nikon AF 70-210mm F4-5.6 telephoto lens
Tamron AF 28-200mm F3.8-5.6 Macro compact telephoto.
The Tamron lens is an odd jack-of-all-trades. It's the poorest performing of the lenses, but it's actually pretty nice for situations when you only wanna carry a lighter lens.
A little secret of the non-full frame DSLRs is that kit lenses often perform very well due to the smaller size of the light sensor. That is, the camera only uses the center-most part of the lens...the so called "sweet spot." Most of the quality improvements in more expensive lenses is in the periphery of the lens. This is necessary of you have the latest full frame DSLR with high resolution or a film SLR. A consumer grade DSLR may not see much not see much benefit from the most expensive lenses.
