So everyone has probably seen the new announcements....What do you guys think? Anyone going to buy some of the new products. Share your thoughts here.
Personally..I was hoping for a cheap alternative with mac software on it. Didn't happen. Might never happen. Apple:The rich mans computer.

$700 plus $999 if ya choose the SSD more for a macbook that has a slower cpu and 64gb ssd or 80gd hdd...but it is so thin excuse isn't valid. Still not worth it.

Nothing really jumped out for me, As i was also waiting for a new Mac(non portable) but that didnt go down.
I might thnk about getting an Apple TV with some gift cards an such that brings the price down a little more. But otherwise blah.
Still love me some Apple tho.
oh an the Time capsule thing maybe...neat to a point, but Its up to which one i want to use my gift cards on..

time capsule absolutely for me. Hell, I designed that two years ago on a mac forum! great price for a terabyte and all the ports, wireless.
I'd love the flatbook, too, they had to make tough design decisions, and I think they made the right choices. but too rich for my blood right now.
I'll def be renting movies, too.

I thought it was a good keynote (product wise, haven't watched the actual presentation yet). The only thing I was really disappointed with was the lac of surprises (almost everything was leaked ahead of time).
I don't understand the complaints about the Macbook Airs price. It's an ultra portable computer, an ultra portable computer IS EXPENSIVE. The cheapest ultra portable I'm seeing from Sony right now is $1,400. The $3,000 model from Apple IS expensive though but I don't see why anyone would really want that model to begin with. It's CPU is only a little faster and the HD is smaller (does the solid-state HD REALLY matter that much, it's an ultra portable). I personally don't have a need for an ultra portable, but I wouldn't say it's over-priced (with the exception of the $3,000 idiot model).
However, $20 to upgrade my iPod touch?! LAME. I guess Apple is getting a little better though, at least I don't have to buy a new iPod.

I think the complaint in price is because the want for a cheaper computer with mac os x is becoming more common....Maybe that is just for me. I know I want a $799 option for a laptop. Maybe I will never see it but its wishful thinking.

I get that, but all because you WANT a cheaper computer doesn't mean this new one is over priced (again, with the exception of the $3,000 model...WTF Apple?).

The only thing I was hoping for was a iPod Touch bigger than the moronically small 16GB. Guess I'll be keeping my 5G for one more year...

i loved on sight
my dell that has lasted for 2 years plus is an inch thick and weighs 4 lbs
though i have nevr used a mac so i don't know how difficult switching modes would be
i love small elegant functional objects
apple's design team must be cognizant of the bauhaus design movement (http://www.dezignare.com/newsletter/bauhausmovement.html) of the 1920s and 30s

I like the designs apple has as things look more simple and elegant but Air is just dumb with no replaceable battery and a 130$ to have it replaced..fuck you.
Eeepc does the same thing ultra portable laptop and MUCH cheaper.

It's not that overpriced if you compare it to a 64Gb SSD subnotebook from Dell and the like. The problem is that it's a supreme statement of what Apple is really about when you strip away all the hype which so many numbnuts buy into. Form over function. Hype over results. And the press, being the Apple-addicted dumbasses they mostly are, drool on command.
It's supposed to be a go-anywhere ultraportable. All right, let's stack it up. The Sony TZ, WITH a DVD drive, weighs less, gets more battery life and has better connectivity options. All right so it's got a noticeably slower processor, but it's perfectly serviceable in everyday use. Whatcha gonna do with an ultralight anyway beyond basics? Let's take a discless subnotebook, the Dell Latitude D430. The Dell is once again slower using the ULV chip and is heavier, and being a 'business machine' in Dell-speak doesn't have a camera. But it'll definitely take more of a beating than the Air, gets better battery life (and you can up the life even more by fitting the extended battery, as you can do with the TZ), built-in mobile broadband, has way better connectivity and a cool click-in-dock which turns it into a 'full' laptop. Let's take a lightweight 'full' notebook, the Fujitsu MG75Y. The Fujitsu weighs just 0.6lbs more for a full Core 2 Duo 2Ghz notebook, same X3100 graphics, removable DVD+-RW drive (weight is without drive) and 7.5 hour battery.
The only innovation here is deciding what to throw out to make the best looking subnotebook. Some people will want it purely for that and I don't blame them, it's a great looking machine. But Apple aren't bringing anything new into this market apart from flash, and their engineering skills are still well below the best in the industry (who never get the press). And the built-in battery? You guys know what happened to many Macbook Pro batteries right? If the batteries expand on that thing you're looking at seriously damaging a perfectly good notebook, regardless of whether it's under warranty or not. They'd better do a replace and not a repair in that case...

The Air is sext as hell, but I'd rather spend my $ on a MacBook Pro and have more flexibility.
And no firewire...seriously?
The Apple Tv might get our $ in the future, but overall I wasn't blown away. They've added some nice upgrades and had a nice keynote - just not the "blown away" announcements that people have come to expect.

there are issues with the battery in the iphone too
it seems they want to maintain a dependency
i don't like that

If i had the money I would buy one....since I never use the battery in my laptop don't really care about that.

me too
i have spent that kind of money on a dress more than once
i use the battery rarely
when i had to go to the emergency room i took my lightweight with me and watched movies but i don't run into many situations like that
i have nothing against pricey 'toys' there are worse ways to spend money
i think the air and the tz would be a good combo for a stylish girl like me

The remote disk think sorta makes up for the lack of cd/dvd drive..I bet it is slow though.

The Remote disc i bet will be slow... But really it's an awesome concept. Other then loading movies music & software I hardly use the Cd Drive. So it'll be awesome... But i just bought my MB Pro 4 months ago So I should be set for awhile.
Maybe it's just me, but i kind of want an apple TV.

iTunes rental service and the time capsule excite me. The Air would be perfect for me, but I'm guessing that is one fragile piece of equipment.
I was hoping the air might cause a drop in the price of the Macbook proper, but no such luck. Don't really mind though. All in all it was pretty good news.

I have it on preorder. We'll see how it stacks up alongside my TZ's. I would not mind a larger-screened ultraportable in my lineup but my guess is that it'll stack up badly.
But never let it be said I'm biased or a fanboy - I'll give the Crapbook a fair shake.
