View Full Version : Rev3 Experiencing Technical Difficulties?

There seems to be indigestion in the system this morning. I know you guys have probably been planning on releasing this new design and what have you for a long while now, but a little bit of testing with your dedicated community might be an idea next time you're going for such a major change.

A lot of the features that are new with the new design just plain aren't working while logged in. When I wasn't logged in, everything seemed to be fine, all the different boxes came up with their subsequent information in them. But while logged in, I don't even get all the boxes, and the footer has vanished as well. It seems like it's probably just a matter of database propagation, but please next time just get a tester base and restrict access so you can test these sorts of things out.

With all the press that's going on right now with Rev3, we need to work on maintaining a particular image to thwart the naysayers about internet-propagated media. Such as availability of content and streamlined use.

Just a few thoughts.

thanks for the comments and feedback.

As you have noticed, we're working on pushing out the new site. Site launches aren't always totally smooth, with alot of moving parts it sometimes can take some time - so please be patient - we're actively working on getting the site stable and working 100%.

so stay tuned

thanks

This is true, us moderators have been beta testing the new site these past few days prior to it's launch (we we're asked not to share such information at the time which is why you're hearing about it just now).

Hahaha, I'm sure they tested this a ton. That's why login doesn't work, session times are minuscule forcing re-login which seems to be clogging the server or just plain killing the login server, forums are breaking, and people could be driven away by the inability to access the things that they want to access.

I am admittedly egocentric, however I do believe that success is in the best interest of Revision3, and that's all I want to see happen. I don't want people to be driven away by the inability to access content or let alone log into their services. There's a lot to be said about the fact that I made this thread, however there is more to be said about personal attacks. I'm not the dedicated community that I was referring to. Notice my post count.

Get things working. 5 months is ample development & testing time, however things are a bit rough. Please take these as constructive thoughts and criticism.

Thanks

PS: phatilp12 the few moderators that are on this site are an insufficient testing group for the scale of what is going on today. Keep that in mind.

A beta community should exist throughout development of new design to give ample time to correct mistakes or flaws. "A few days" seems a bit rushed for such a huge undertaking.

Speak for yourself. I browsed through it, but I haven't done a through walk around. However, we did have to promise not to disclose the new design. I'm not sure why that is, but it's their website.

A more rigorous round of beta testing might be called for, but they might want to handle that in-house. I wouldn't expect a forum members to get tapped for the job. At least not until they get the dedicated Crumbles complaint section launched.

What is the point of designing a new site when you could not even maintain the current one...just fix the issues on the current one and everything will be just fine.

I am so sick of lazy staff at forums these days,so after this new site comes about then it will get problems get neglected in maintenance and you just make a new one?

Seems to be the trend these days. -__-

I would welcome a new website design every so often if it was maintained.

Apparently I picked like the worst couple of days to start looking at this forum again...

I, for one, welcome the new design as I have no idea what the old looked like! :D

Edit: HAHAHA, when I clicked "submit reply" on this I got "page cannot be displayed"

Have you ever tried moving from a test site to a producion site? If so, you'd know that stuff that works on the test site often breaks when put into production. Cut them some slack...

Perhaps you've misunderstood. The forum is not being updated yet. The rest of the Revision3 website is.

Maybe they should fix the forums first..after all seeing several white screens and several refreshes later and every time I click on a topic I get a white screen this forum is practically unusable.

eh, yeah, the forums are screwing up precisely because the new site is being updated.

What is happening is the webserver is being put under a lot of strain right now. THis could be an influx of people trying to view the site, or it could be bad code on the site causing infinite loops or suchlike. Whatever the cause, that's what's causing the forum problems. Could even be digg effect...

this is also a nice touch. I've received a couple "Database error: The database has encountered a problem". The domain must be getting hammered for it to effect the forum this badly.

One of the nice features that I liked about the old site was that it was quick and easy to see which show had released a new episode. From what little I've been able to see of the new front page, the quick and easy feature has been removed. :(

The guest number looks normal if not lower than normal. The members logged in higher than normal on a non diggnation release day. Replacing an already bug ridden site with one that seems even more bug ridden is what people are complaining about. The reason that given earlier

Could just roll it out on a new domain and have it linked from the homepage and forums for testing? That way the current site stays up and they can experience some decent traffic for beta testing. Not really sure if that would jack up logins or whatnot though. Then again I've never rolled out a dynamic website before so I could be way off and sound retarded.

Yes, the subscription has been cancelled as Revision3 will put the subscriptions on hiatus. You should have received an email from Jim Louderback, our CEO. If you were an annual subscriber you should also expect something nice, while all subscribers will have their forum title edited to that of a Revision3 founding member.

No, we're back to the old look for a while. Can you put a screen shot of what you're seeing and include your Browser and OS?

I see one of those safety cornered do thingies that shows what's coming up, but nothing that shows what has been released. Showing what has been released would be, to my way of thinking, kind of important.

Next time I see the new site I'll put a screen shot up. Currently using WinXP and Firefox. I tried IE6 for the heck of it, and as I recall it was worse.

Are you by chance using FF 3 Beta 2? When we were doing testing, before the site went live, the numbers would disappear for me, in Vista.

Personally I liked the new design. I've worked with websites in college and know how much trouble a person can have in creating a new site. I have a friend who's creating a site and it worked in Explorer but it didn't work in Firefox, then it reversed itself and worked in Firefox, but not in Explorer. There are a number of things that could have gone wrong with R3’s new site. I can wait for the new design. I just hope these problems won’t delay shows airing this week, but if it does, I’ll live.:)

IE vs FF is the devil. Don't I know it.

After staring at the code on my site, it turned out to be an error on my side, and IE was just more "forgiving" about my poor code. After I fixed my code, the issues went away.

I'm still not seeing anything in the upper left corner of the main page but a big green square with white numbers in it's upper right corner. This, I suppose, is some sort of image flipper similar to the ones I have seen on other websites. They work, this one doesn't for whatever reason.

One of the many things the old site got right was it showed the release of episodes and in order of release, right there on the front page. Am I to understand that now if you want to find any new episodes you have to haphazardly click every show link?

Are you using an ad blocking program? Various ad blockers are blocking portions of the website.

As has been stated by revision3 staff in other threads, this is being addressed and a chronological program listing should be available soon.

Yes.

Various ad blockers are blocking portions of the website.

Do you know if this is something Rev3 intends to fix?

As has been stated by revision3 staff in other threads, this is being addressed and a chronological program listing should be available soon.

In my opinion, that is just another reason the release of the redesigned site should have been delayed. Well that, and it's butt-ugly.
