Now, until I heard that Whedon was doing his own line of Buffy/Angel comics I wasn't interested at all. If it's non canon, I really don't care. But I've been enjoying the canon comics that Whedon has put out. I'm not really sure where they're going at this point, but I'll stick with it.

The end of the most recent Angel comic (issue #3) certainly changed that issue from being slightly mediocre into a super WTF moment.

Has anyone else been reading them?

I've been meaning to pick up the Buffy comics, as a former co-worker of mine was raving about them, and I miss the Scoobies. :(
On the whole, I've heard nothing but good things about the comics.

I was sad about my reaction to Season 8. I think I would of been more open to what happened in these comics if there was some kind of realistic transition, but it went from season 7 Craziness to absolute over drive. I wish it was more in keeping with the shows, but I get that Whedon wanted to push the boundaries of what he could do in the show. I have a feeling that it's just me, maybe I just need to give it some time.

Just bought the Omnibus Volume 1. I have a lot of catching up to do. The only thing that I have seen is the movie and that was a long time ago.

I've started reading these lately, good stuff.

Felt like making a post here to point out that there is now also a Serenity comic. Pretty much the same deal as the Buffy and Angel comics.

I thought I'd mention the Omnibus and past Buffy comics I think are in a different time line. I have vol. 1 trade of Season 8 and I really enjoyed it. It's nice that they have some of the show writers working on the storyline and look forward to the next trade. I'm kind of lazy to collect individual issues after doing it for years growing up. As to such a big jump from season 7, I'd say the show was always like that especially Season 4 and S.H.I.E.L.D. I mean that other group.

I'm curious on the Angel Season 6 though, and want to hear some more and a trade to be released.

I read it awhile back, and I kind of enjoyed it. It was real short, but bridged the gap of the show and movie. I think they're working on another Firefly/Serenity comic line. So I'm hoping they go further in case a sequel doesn't happen.

Yah, like I said. The first issue of the Serenity comic came out this month.

Takes place during or after the show but before the movie since Doc and River are on the ship and Preacher and Wash ain't dead.

Season 8 is AMAZING!

Satori, A year ago I had the same reaction as you. But after watching this awesome fan made documentary on serentiy, and then picking up the new Serentiy comic, I decided to give Season 8 another go and picked up the trade-- LOVE IT!

The first 5 issues of Season 8 are available as a trade paperback (http://www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=14-115).

I was really enjoying reading Season 8, but I kinda stopped after issue 7; I'll probably start up again soon to catch up. It's just that there's so much to read out there!

Thanks Royterp...

Next time I'm at Barnes and Noble I'll find a comfy place and see if this is one comic I can enjoy.

Buffy: Season 8 and Angel: After the Fall strike me as how Whedon would have wrote those shows all along if he didn't have a special effects budget.

I was looking around in my local comic book store and saw a issue of buffy season 8, so I picked it up, being a huge buffy fan, and started looking through it as I always do. I didn't know the context of the story but I thought it looked pretty lame and then I stumbeld upon a page in which buffy just had sex with a girl . It made me very sad, not because I'm anti-gay but because I always had a HUGH crush on buffy when I was younger, I closed the issue and walked away with a broken heart...

But anyway, if everybody says its so great I might check it out:)

Fret not, Whedon's confirmed she's not gay, but rather is merely experimenting. If you'd read the comics from the start, you'd understand how she got to that point. So I'd encourage you to do so, and immerse yourself once again in the world that is Buffy.

Anyway, as someone who has read "season 8" from the start, I'd highly recommend it. The first arc isn't as good as it could have been, but it's great to be back with the gang and hear all their voices once again.
The second arc is the Faith arc, written by Brian K. Vaughan: if you like it make sure to check out Y: The Last Man, and Runaways, both great comics very much influenced by Whedon's work.
The third arc has just started, and is written by Drew Goddard, who wrote the screenplay for Cloverfield. It's started off very strongly and the first issue reveals that an old enemy of Buffy's is back and out to get her.

As for Angel, it's strong but not just as strong as Buffy (much like the T.V. series IMO) The writer seems to be playing more to fans, and it's almost tiresome to get another reveal, another big revelation, or a old character returning every issue. I'd rather they just got on with writing good stories and put Angel and co. in interesting moral dilemmas (where the show shone strongest). Perhaps it also struggles, because unlike the show, the gang aren't all together and united: fighting for the same cause like they pretty much always were in the show. (Maybe that'll change by the end of this arc)
