Has anyone played this game? What did you think of it? I was thinking about getting it.. but I'm not sure if its worth the $50. I'd be getting the PC version too, if that makes a difference for anyone.

It's a fun game and can keep you very entertained for awhile (personally that was about 20ish hours) it is very beautiful as well so if you're into that kind of sim/builder game I would suggest it.

Did you play the 360 version, or PC? I heard there were some problems with the PC one.. but maybe they made a patch for it, I couldn't find out..

I've played both, the PC version isn't too bad at first there were a few bugs but patches fixed them as far as I can tell other than the fact that it requires what seems like way too good of a system to run on high settings I had no real problems with it.

I really enjoy this game. One of my friends suggested I get it, but I was unsure at first. Its a lot of fun for only $20 (on the 360). There is alot to do and it can keep you occupied for quite some time.

I would like to get it for the 360, but its my brother that owns it, and he keeps it in his room, and i'd rather not be in his room.. its pretty nasty to say the least.

That's so weird, I was actually thinking of starting a thread on this but I figure it had been out for so long no one would be interested. :p I got Viva Pinata used for 360 over the holidays and I've been playing it a lot. I really like it even though it doesn't have a story driven goal. It seems like a mix of Pokemon and Harvest Moon; two of my favorite games! I only have one achievement left to get and I think I'm getting close.

My guess would be something to do with Harvest Moon? But that's just a guess.

It was because of Harvest Moon AND Pokemon, only my two favorite games of all TIME! I don't think anyone I know has those in their favorites, haha. Most make fun of me for it :(

It's simple really... they're just jealous they aren't playing Harvest Moon. That or they live a terribly sheltered life and don't know the joys of growing crops of tomatoes and strawberries. :D
And your feelings are understandable... Harvest Moon and Pokemon can do that to a person. ;)

Yeah, I got it on release day... but I never finished it. :( I got all the way to the elite 4 and stopped before I was high enough to beat them. The problem is that it's kinda unbalanced. A lot of the strongest new pokemon are weak to fire... but there's almost no fire types in the game... so your choice is very limited. And even when you do try to train, almost everywhere you go is filled with water and ground types to kill your fire in an instant. Training is very difficult to do in that game. In previous games there was always somewhere you could go to train any type... but not in this one. So I never finished it. Which is sad cause it's the first time that has happened.

Just got this game, and so far, I like-ish. It just seems so chaotic sometimes. I was kind of expecting that there'd be a bit more control with the game, but the pinata's like doing whatever the hell they want. I'd enjoy it more if I weren't so anal. What I like about Harvest Moon is that I'm clearing the clutter and making a neat manageable patch of land, but that seems the complete opposite with this game!
I figure once I get enough money, I'll be able to manage a little better.

Yeah, if can get enough money, you can build the walls and gates and keep the pinatas in their own areas. Also you can make multiple gardens, and they all use the same money and your player's experience. So you can use that to your advantage too. Have one all water and another all bugs if you want.

yeah i bought a 360 back in december and got this game for free. but i only started playing it a few weeks back, and i was hooked! it's one of the most addictive games i've ever played, though the learning curve is a bit steep, and you'll get an explosion of new things to do every 10 minutes, after you past that, it's smooth sailing... until you reach level 50.
i found that even if i had a lot more pinatas to attract to my garden, i just didn't have the motive to continue on once i reached 50. so yeah, i'm taking a viva pinata 'break' right now cos i did play it too excessively, and i hope to finaly get at least a lion pinata or whatever.

I got the game very soon after I got my 360 which was in September, and unfortunately the avalanche of great games available just meant this one got relegated to the back of my queue. Not to mention that now thanks to TRS (mostly Alex) I'm playing WoW again.
What little of the game I did play I enjoyed immensely, I even got the guide just because of the presentation and wealth of information.

I beat the elite 4, and got to the new island, and was all excited for it, but you have to go to the battle tower (I think thats what it was called) before you can go to the whole island. So then I tried to do that and it wouldn't let me.. and I don't know why, and I'm stuck. Boo.

Sorry about that. Busy day today.
Yeah, so that looks like a pretty cool team. You have a bunch that I've never really tried out. I see you have the fire problem I mentioned covered pretty easily. I had picked the grass type at the start, so I could only get Rapidash as a fire type. Still pretty good I guess.
Oh yeah, I added you to my buddy list... although I'm not really sure what that does :p

Haha.. I don't know.. I'm never up this late..
Its worked pretty well for me so far, though the Lopunny is just there cause I needed a pokemon that could learn a couple of the HM's, and Lumineon was just there cause it was the last pokemon in my sinnoh dex, and I couldn't find it anywhere, and so I was going to try to evolve it.. anyway yeah, now its just sitting there gaining levels until I decide to go to a poke center and change it. The fire thing, I just usually choose the fire pokemon, I don't know why, but those ones are my favorite.. though chikorita (I'm pretty sure thats spelled wrong..) won me over big time (mainly because its cute.. and I'm a sucker for cute ones ^.^), and was the only grass pokemon I ever started out with. Yeah thinking back.. there aren't a whole lot of fire type in this version.. sucky :(
Anyway.. I shall add you to my buddy list aswell.. and we can figure out what it means?

UH.. Durh! Of course you should start playing again and beat it, the little island after the elite four is pretty cool.. and some of that other stuff seems pretty cool.. though I haven't gotten to it yet.
I still haven't even bought Viva Pinata, I work full time, and I'm sick right now so I've just been coming home and sleeping or playing pokemon. But I will eventually get to buying it, haha.

oh yeah, I remember I was thinking of doing that... but I can't remember what stopped me... hmm... i think i had heard a rumour way back when I first got pearl that putting ruby into the other side of the DS and using that park feature might make it so you couldn't play it on an older gameboy... or that it corrupted the save... Well, I know that once you take the pokemon off of the ruby version you can't put them back on, but I haven't heard anything else about it. My Ruby version was screwed anyway, the internal battery ran dry or something, that was upsetting when it first happened :/

No I didn't lose anything thank god, I would've been waaay more upset. It still worked and everything, just the clock based events and stuff didn't work anymore. I can't remember for sure anymore but I think it affected some of the pokemon I could catch. Also the department store raffle ticket thing, there were a few other things that I can't remember..

I don't have one. When I was trying to decide which system I wanted to get, obviously I wanted to be able to play the next Zelda/Mario/Metroid/Smash Bros... but after that, I couldn't really see much else I was interested on the Wii. Meanwhile the 360 had many more titles I wanted to play which is why I ended up getting 360. I guess I'm trying to say is that the reason why I don't have a Wii is not because I think it's bad. I have played it once, and it was pretty fun. I just don't know how much I would be able to get out of it since there's not many games I would be willing to pay the big bucks for. Plus I wanted a black one, and then they only had white when it finally came out :p

If you have a gamecube(even Wii) or DS can also Try the Animal Crossing series (where VP gets most of it's inspiration from)
I've heard that game is good, and that its something I'd like, but I really didn't like Sims so I wasn't sure if I'd like Animal Crossing.

Don't worry AC is very simple yet incredibly fun and addictive..I never got in the sims either.
AC keeps you playing for months (not in a wow you have no life way though:p)

I remember getting really hooked on the GameCube game. I don't know if I would describe it as fun, but it was definitely consuming. I had to collect all the different stuff and fill up the museums etc. I remember even buying a GCN to GBA cable just for this. Then I designed my own texture patterns for clothes and umbrellas, and I perfectly made the Autobot and Decepticon logos in the game and so i had transformers clothes and signs all over the place! :D

Did he get it? If he did, you don't have to worry too much because you can you just buy more from the hunter once you've tamed one naturally... of course that will cost a lot, but at least you don't have to go through all the hoops of catching one again. I know they take a lot to get.
The first time Professor Pester showed up at my garden he killed my favorite pinata I had at the time. A blue Buzzenge. He was so cool too. :(

Well you sound like you're on your way to getting a couple of them... especially if you keep romancing and getting Master Romancer on your pinatas.
The hardest achievement is obviously the "play for 50 hours" one. 50 hours is a long time.

The tricky thing is that there's no clock in the game, so you never really know how long you've been playing for... I remember playing and just romancing anything and everything, to pass the time after i caught all the types of pinata. At one point I was thinking that i must be close, but i couldn't play anymore that night and saved and turned it off. The next day I came back and the achievement unlocked about 2 minutes after starting up again :p

It's surprising how much more challenging it is even though it has a "childish" exterior... it gets pretty intense pretty fast with so much going on and bad guys attacking your garden. I can't see how a kid could ever get very far in this game... maybe I'm wrong. I'm sure kids are far smarter than I think.

Its probably cause we over think it. Kids think about things more simply, and this game is made that way.. I guess. Cause I find it freakin hard sometimes. Haha.

Just wondering. I know you have to sometimes do that just for romancing, but sometimes i'll just do it to make them look cool if I really like them. Zumbugs look great in a wizard hat and green scarf :p
So far, Viva Pinata and Outpost Kaloki X are the only 360 games I've played to completion, with full 1000 and 200 achievement points gained respectively (BioShock is close with 960/1100). I really hope they put out a true sequel soon (Party Animals doesn't count), because it's a ton of fun.

Yeah, originally they were going to have downloadable content and everything for Viva Pinata. New accessories and possibly new pinata too. In the cg cartoon, there are pinata that aren't in the game. But since it never sold well they didn't see it as a good move, and so it never happened.

If you try to make a new garden, and name it one of the following names, you unlock some accessories. When you enter the name for the new garden, it won't make the garden, instead it will tell you that you unlocked stuff. I'm not sure if you can get them just by playing and leveling up, but here they are anyways. Bullseye, Chewnicorn, Goobaa, Kittyfloss. Each of these names unlocks a different set of accessories, so make sure to use them all! :D
