Just watched The Nines this evening, not knowing anything about the movie going into it and wow, I was not expecting that at all. This is a very weird movie that I can't really go into too much detail about without spoiling it, but I'd definitely recommend folks check it out. It shares a small similarity with The Fountain, but at the same time it's poles apart. Definitely a movie you can't stop watching because you want to know what the f*ck is really going on. Thankfully it's also a movie that tells you, unlike The Fountain (which p*ssed me off no end).
:D

I almost started a thread about this! Watched it like 4 times, and this is definitely a great movie. Listening to the commentary was good fun too. These are my kinds of movies, the kinds where you gotta think and watch it again fully understanding what will happen.
I recommend it as well. I love this movie.
EDIT: Here's the commentary you can listen to on your iPod as it's playing. >LINK< (http://johnaugust.com/archives/2007/the-nines-audio-commentary)

I just finished watching this movie. WOW !!! I loved it. I think this is one of the best movies i have seen in a while. Its funny that you mentioned similarity's with The Fountain (also a movie i love) because i was thinking that the whole time. Although the film does explain itself at the end almost completely i found that to be rather amusing. There is the part in the movie where the writer "Gavin" is having to change parts of his tv show so dumb people will understand it and this seems like it may sort of and inside joke as to why the director of "The Nines" explains the whole ending of his movie. Maybe he went thru the same B.S. as his character did in the screening process and did a small re-write to sort of joke about it.
But i digress. Great movie check it out. Buy it if you like it to show some support.

Edit: neverendingwhitelights thanks for the commentary link.
Yea I watched this movie the day after they mentioned it on the show and it was amazing. I really didn't have a clue what was going on till the very end, but I had all kinds of ideas of what it could be. And those types of movies are some of my favourite. I recommend it to everyone.

It's funny how some of these threads work. I remember a month or two back this movie popping up in a thread, and it seemed like the consensus there was somewhere between underwhelmed and actively disliked. Now a new thread and a new crew, and everyone seems very on board with it. I'm glad, because this is a pretty interesting film.
I saw this one in the theater when it first came out. Although it does a good job of connecting the dots at the end it still leaves a few questions open for the viewer's interpretation. I can't say that I loved it, but I definitely left the theater thinking about it, and I'm anxious to see it again on DVD. I can't wait to check out the commentary.

Wow i guess im the only one that didnt like it. The performances were very good, Ryan Reynolds, Melissa McCarthy and Elle Fanning. The plot/story however is just horrible and plays like it was written by some egomaniac.

I really can't compare it to much of anything in particular. It's just one of those movies where once you're done with it, you want to just sit and think about it for a bit. Then you watch it again and go, OH, now I get what was going on there. The commentaries can also be helpful too if you still can't figure some things out.

By the way it was described, I was getting a Donnie Darko darker feel from this movie.
Thanks for the help!

I think the part that tickled me most was the occupation of the guy who was stuck out in the middle of nowhere.

Well you could say that it's on the same playing field, except it's not as emo and... Hot Topicy, so to speak. In a way I'd say it's more like Memento.

Seen Finders Fee or Foolproof ? I loved 'em, but, also 'cus I'm a RR fan. Foolproof is a Canadian indie, with a bit of questionable acting, but a great plot and delivery. Finders Fee is like a badass play. All set in one location in 'real-time'. Finders Fee was amazingly written and directed by Jeff Probst the guy from Survivor . . .so I'm told, I never saw Survivor.

I dont believe this has ever been discussed on TRS. I've emailed the guys a few times before it came out in Theaters since it was on limited release in LA & Austin, Tx. I almost drove 4 hours to go watch it, and wish I did.
I saw it on DVD a week ago and loved it. I like movies like this which make you think. Its just a different movie than you normally watch and was a welcome change to the standard "press play & take in dialogue' of most movies.
