Well not exactly... I downloaded this software that allowed me to watch some key channels thru the net. Software called TVUPLAYER.

http://www.tvunetworks.com/downloads/player.htm

Don't download the Beta unless you can get WM9 or 10 to work with WINE.

The software is Windows only so obviously you have to use WINE to get it to work. Watched ESPN and ESPN2 all day the other day.

Key details to get it to work under WINE:
1. Open your favorite console app and "locate msxml*" then copy the .dlls's to
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/

2. run "winecfg" click libraries and New Overide for Libraries... choose "msxml3"

3. Now double click the .exe file for TVUPLAYER if saved to your desktop or run wine TVU*.exe from console.

ENJOY! damn I love China.

umm...i have a question...if this is a Windows native app, why the bleeding hell did you post it here and not in the Windows forum?

and TVU is great if you can get a constant connection for more than 5 minutes at a time (which is very rare), otherwise it's just like Realplayer from back in 1995...and you are definetly younger than 20 if you don't get that reference.

stop being so negative for one... I think you have drink'en too much coffee and power drinks... TAKE A BREATHER!

secondly... lots of people use windows apps on linux... why the hell you think WINE was created.... if there was a native LINUX port for this then WINE would not be necessary.... example: Dreamweaver

third... I clearly gave instruction to using this in LINUX so it fits the forum I entered it into.... no where did it indicate instructions to installing to Windows

the video seemed pretty good for some of the channels.... ESPN 1 and 2, Nickelodeon, CNBC and a couple music channels.... couldn't find HBO which is suppose to be included (maybe it was taken off the server, not really sure).

I got a connection better than 5 min... once it was up it was up... I'll admit it isn't perfect for all channels but damn what a start. Maybe the 5 min phenomenon you encountered is a problem occuring exclusively for you (could be terrible bandwidth or maybe you have a jacked distro setup).... would love to hear from another forum member with experience with this topic.

When i used it HBO was still on...and i tried it on both my home connection (3mbps down/768kbps up) and my work connection which is an OC3 (about 150mbps symmetric) on varying systems, but all Windows boxes and it worked like crap...i'll stick to torrents

Tried the Beta? If so, is it an improvement?

It seems like they are onto something if they can come up with a solution to make the channels stream fluidly.... like I said, I think it is a great start. If they do figure out all the bugs it would seriously hamper the current cable tv monopolization... all I watch is 7 channels (Charter Cable). Maybe it will force a price drop on current cable packages...

i think i did try the beta...but i only watch some shows so BT is better for me, for example, i can watch Studio 60 a day before it airs in the US if i get it via bittorrent...

Im younger then 20 and got the reference :<

I tried TVU, could never connect to HBO - the only thing i could connect to was the low stream of MSNBC. It's really not worth using IMO :\

and i'd like to second the 'why post a windows app in linux section?' question
