A new trailer for the upcoming Star Trek movie is up on youtube. Probably not for long. All I can say is...raaaaaaad.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RllSZW_YLk8 (very low quality though)

The cool thing is, the movie website says "Under Construction" which refers to the website AND the Enterprise :) .

And another cool note...looks like they are keeping the "no man has gone before" rather than "no one has gone before". Not that I am sexist, but good for them, good for them.

It's so easy to make a good Star Trek trailer, I still have serious concerns about the movie though.

I'm with ya on that. The casting choices and the dumping of canon really worries me. Sure, Kirk's a Lothario, (***POSS SPOILER***)but to use that as his reason for beating the Kobayashi Maru takes away some of the legend of his smarts.

I just want this to be a good trek movie.

I think anyone expecting this to fulfill their Trek need is going to be a little disappointed. They are really re-inventing Trek with this movie so I am sure that it will disappoint the hardcore trekkies.

I am going to try and judge the movie on its own merits separate from the rest of my experiences with trek. Not sure if this reasonable, but it seems to be the only way that a trekkie such as myself is going to make it through a movie like this without being disappointed.

I agree with you there. The sad thing is that there's been so much horrible stuff in the world of Trek when it comes to shows and movies that I'm willing to take a rewrite. That's how I'm going into this. If it's better than the Final Frontier, or most of the Next Gen movies (and I loved Next Gen!), then I'll be satisfied.

Trailer is great and second no one should worry too much Berman and Braga the two responsible for taking Trek so downhill no longer have anything to do with trek.

I have faith in JJ and ever wonder why the LAST season of ENterprise was actually good..Manny Coto took over for Berman and Braga for the final season.

So no Berman and Braga and JJ on board I can look towards this.:D

Truth, but I'll still going to the theaters (ZOMG) for this. As much as a prefer watching at home, I have to see this. I'm going to judge this as if Star Trek never existed instead of a "Start Trek" film because I'll probably be less disappointed that way (of course, I'm less disappointed by most bad ST stuff then most fans).

From what I've seen it looks like it will be right after "Where No Man Has Gone Before" when they refitted the Enterprise and changed uniforms. By having it then they can do whatever they want really and not necessarily rewrite anything at all. That doesn't mean that they won't rewrite stuff, but they don't have to.

Just saw this in front of Cloverfield and at first I had NO idea what it was about. Then you suddenly hear Spock. I have to tell you my jaw hit the floor! So awesome!

I dig it their "Batman Begins" the franchise Good times , until they put out something more in the regular star trek universe (Post DS9 Dominon Wars) I'll be their day 1 for the new star trek :)

I have a feeling it's going to completely suck. I think recasting old characters is a huge mistake, and they should have started COMPLETELY fresh, or just given it up. In my mind, Nemesis was a fine way to end it.

great trailer... really? I mean the whole under construction thing is clever...
In any case, I'm looking forward to it. All they have to do to make it canonical it say "parallel universe" :-) And actually the only thing
I heard about changes was the first contact/ cochran stuff, which was all time-travel-ish anyway.

I was blown away when I saw this infront o Cloverfield. I don't really care much for the franchise but seeing the teaser made my pants fly off, it was pretty epic

Great Teaser. I have huge faith in JJ to light a fire under this franchise. I've always been a bigger TNG, DS9, VOY fan than the Original Series and I'm hoping this film can freshen up these characters for me.

If it was anyone but JJ Abrams, I'd 100% agree. He's shown care with reimagining Mission:Impossible and he's seeming to take the same care with Trek as well.

As for the trailer, immediately hooked. This is going to be a good movie. ^_^

This might add to the discussion:

I gotta say, JJ Abrams is definitely the king of viral marketing.

The teaser is now available in 720p and 1080p HD on the official movie site.

I've been waiting desperately ever since I saw it in front of Cloverfield on the 18th, and if it wasn't un-embargoed today I was going to go see the movie again mostly just to see this trailer once more on the big screen. :o

Movie looks like it'll be spectacular! I really can't wait and could care less of the "history" of ST. It needs a reinventing.

JJ loves the tease!

Except the tease didn't show anything which kind of sucks. I think it'll be good, It just should have shown something. Like Kirk walking up the main deck & everyone turning. it was an empty tease

The trailer is pretty cool overall, but for those of us that are star trek fans can we talk about the warp nacelles on the enterprise.. what's with the propellers?!

Berman and Braga have done nothing but hold good Star Trek down.

Good TNG episodes: Ronald D. Moore Executive producer.
Bad TNG episodes: Story By Bannon Braga.

and to give all of you trek fans some context of my trek fandom:

DS9: Personal favorite.
TNG: The best.
Voyager: can hardly watch it.
Enterprise: Everything that had nothing to do with the Xindhi and wasn't the final episode was good (thanks again Berman and Braga)
TOS: Can't watch it, too old, doesn't stand up today.

I think the original enterprise had spinning somethings in the warp nacells...I'm thinking this is a prototype because I thought the movie was pre-enterprise?

TOS - they have released the original episodes with all new special effects and that really makes them worth watching...Shatner's bravado is funny as hell...

preTOS not pre Enterprise. This is post Enterprise pre TOS and actually since it's about Kirk this will actually be somewhere before the majority of TOS but after Pike. That is if they are going to stick to the time line which so far all Trek has and there really isn't any reason to deviate if it has Kirk et. al.

I think the Bravado is partly what I dislike. The universe is just so well defined in TNG, it feels like they are actually an evolution of human society where TOS just seems like present day with space travel grafted on. the TNG universe tackles much more "heady" issues and that's what I respect about (and BSG for that matter, I really think that a lot of what I like about Trek has to do with what the writers were able to do in spite of Berman and Braga (unless they were masterminds behind bodysuits for 7 of 9 and T'Pol in which case I'll take that fan service thank you very much)).

Yeah, I basically had a nerd-gasm in the theater before Cloverfield...

I liked the whole voice over montage highlighting what Star Trek's suppose to be all about. I'm extremely excited...

In Tos some of the models behind the red nacelle lights had a spinning effect.

Thankfully Berman/Braga left the Franchise in 2005
Last Season of Enterprise Berman/Braga handed the series to a talented writer/Producer and Star Trek fan Manny Coto and I loved Season 4...except Berman did handle the final Episode.

And Voyager I think it had some good points but was inconsistent but feel Tuvok is the best Vulcan ever.

TNG I think is the best of all of them and my personal fave.

DS9 I love but don't consider it true star trek but a spin off of the spinoffs that just takes place in the star trek universe (since it's not about exploring mainly about religions and emissaries and wars and such and much more story based)

TOS was not what Gene wanted (look more at TNG for that) but was forced to make it more action like and westerns on TV were popular back then so studios made him change it a bit to be more of a western in space.
I like it but yeah glad Gene was given more control for TNG (he said he would not do it again unless they gave him more creative control)

Star Trek overall is my fave series ever and TNG is my #1 fave show ever period.

TNG is one of the greatest shows of all time...I am rewatching the series with my brother and his wife and after 99% of the episodes we just shake our heads in wonder at how incredible they are...

That's the best part, it was the first to break the mold of what a star trek show was and could be. They said "Hey we have this GREAT universe let's do something with it besides the TOS model." They were exploring themselves and alien cultures through the space station and I thought that was gold. The characters were impeccable too. Avery Brooks as Sisko I would say possibly out does Patrick Stewart as Picard. The episode where adult Jake kills himself to reestablish his father's timeline is right up there with TNG's "The Inner Light" in all time most touching single episodes ever. I went from HATING Bashir as a young cocky douche to respecting him for the man he grows into, the friend of O'Brien. As far as that's concerned the continuation of Worf and O'Brien were perfect and not over the top like they easily could have been when it comes to spin offs. DS9 is yet again Ronald D. Moore flexing his sci-fi story telling nuts. Hopefully one of these days he'll get the respect he deserves for it.

TOS was not what Gene wanted (look more at TNG for that) but was forced to make it more action like and westerns on TV were popular back then so studios made him change it a bit to be more of a western in space.

This DEFINES what I dislike about TOS. Western in space. As the LOLcats say "DO NOT WANT"

I'm extremely passive about Star Trek, never watched any of them and yet through osmosis I know a bunch about it. Most of these "reboots" have been great like Batman Begins and Casino Royale so this could be good. Still, give me a Star Destroyer any day.

I got chills... CHILLS.

From a frickin' teaser... God damn it, I loved it.

I mean its as if I saw the "spirit" of the franchise. The continuation of the space race our first leap - gah I'll stop.

Please please please live up to the hype... please...

have you people forgotten the rule of star trek films? the odd ones suck.

the bad idea of recasting combined with the odd number means this will be the worst one yet.

ryudo
01-23-2008, 05:01 AM
That rule no longer applies after Nemesis.

bakhox
01-23-2008, 05:07 AM
I think the rule is the summation of the first two digits of the number of the movie, such that:
01=1
02=2
03=3
04=4
05=5
06=6
07=7
08=8
09=9
10=1
11=2

kronos6948

That rule no longer applies after Nemesis.

I have to agree with you. Nemesis totally sucked except for the fight scenes.

I also thought "The Search for Spock" and "The Motion Picture" were good.

(alright, kill me for actually liking the long beauty shots of the Enterprise-they helped me accurately paint my model).
