i'm tired of seeing all the threads bitching about the new design. i;m sure they are working on it. so instead lets talk about pie. it's yummy yum yum
INGREDIENTS
2 mangos - peeled, seeded, and cubed
1/4 cup apple juice
15 fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
1/2 cup white sugar
3 tablespoons honey
1/2 cup cold butter
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 (9 inch) refrigerated pie crust

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Place a mixing bowl in the refrigerator to chill.
Place the mangoes and apple juice in a sauce pan; simmer over medium-low heat. After 10 minutes, stir 1/4 cup white sugar and the honey into the mangoes. Add the strawberries. Reduce heat to low and continue to simmer until fruit softens.
Place the butter into the chilled mixing bowl, and cut into small pieces. Combine butter with the remaining 1/4 cup white sugar, brown sugar, flour, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Use your fingers or two forks to mix the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture becomes coarse textured and crumbly. Refrigerate until needed.
Pour the mango mixture into the prepared pie crust. Spread the crumb mixture evenly over the top of the fruit.
Bake in preheated oven until topping is golden brown, about 20 minutes. Remove from oven and cool at least 30 minutes before serving.

US ketchup is too sweet generally though, so when we have pies at home (we actually mail order them overnight from the bakery I linked to) we have them with Heinz Organic Ketchup - more savoury, less sweet.
Sammy - its just beef stew in a pie crust (Americans make pot pies, this just takes it to another level) ... and I think even you would like a lamington :)

The number e is harder. Above, we know that pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to the diameter. Therefore, the circumference of every circle is 2(pi)*radius. The angle 45 degrees one eighth of the circumference or Pi/4 radians. The tangent of 45 degrees (or Pi/4 radians) is 1.
There is no elementary geometric definition for e like the one we have for Pi.

That okay. It's true, but it's a pretty shitty approximation. That particular series doesn't converge very quickly. Observe
4 = 4
4-4/3 = 2.6666...
4-4/3+(4/5)=3.4666...
4-4/3+(4/5)-4/7 = 2.8952...
4-4/3+(4/5)-4/7+4/9= 3.339
Five iterations into it and it's not even close. It'll bounce around for a few hundred iterations before it starts to look right. The trouble is that the value 1 is right on the edge of the radius of convergence of the power-series we derived for arctan.
So, like much the is math, the formula is true, but practically useless.

EDIT: I just want to mention that there are a tonne of people who still live this life. 80's metal is alive and well on Sunset Blvd. If I went to the Rainbow right now I would see dudes chest hair and mascara feathered hair and tight black jeans and bandanas/scarfs etc.

Sad thing is that the song "Uncle Tom's Cabin" is actually a really good song. But, since the producers didn't feel that it was radio friendly enough, they requested that he write a radio hit.
Remember, things only become a hit if the producers decide to push it (at least in the current way of publishing music).

a standard recording contract gives almost all the power to the recording company
they advance the money to produce the cd but it is their job to promote it (other than touring) and they decide which artists they think is their best investment (you owe them the money that they advanced which they can recoup not only from that cd but from any future recordings plus they will do everything they can to get cross collaterilzation on any publishing royalties on songs the recording artist(s) writes for the cd(s) )
before you argue about it you might want to read the music business bible by donald passman 'all you need to know about the music business'

Geek = computers, tech, comics, etc..
Nerd = uber-smart people
The two are not necessarily separate.

As far as pie concerns, I really like chess pie. It's popular in the south, I never heard of it until my great grandmother (who lives in Tennessee) made it.

When I am the richest guy in the world i will buy every single recipe for pies, both sweet and savory as well as that Frankenstein at McDonald's that looks like a burrito. Then release all of them under CCL so that all of them can be reviewed/distributed/criticized/modified by the public in order to ensure that the best product is updated by a contributing public and available to the masses without commercial interest being served.
Every heard of OSPP? No? Thats because I'm still broke.

When cherry pie the song came out I was 7 years old and I really thought it was talking about pie..hell I was so naive even when rock the former wrestler talked about pie I kept wondering why is this man so obsessed with pie.
Was not until later when I discovered it everything hit me like a ton of bricks. :o

Coincidently, we were just talking about this in the iFanboy forums. I have never tired pie. Or cobbler. Or anything else pie related. I have managed to completely steer clear of them, unintentionally.

After reading that, I realized that if you do it for the art, all well and good, just don't expect to make a decent living off of it in this day and age.

the solution is obviously the internet
but the 'system' is not in place that a new artist can plug into
you can make money but you have to be smart and you have to be knowledgeable
to the record company you are a potentially valuable property
if you become an actual valuable property they want you locked in
they are not exactly even aware of what the artist's best interests are nor do they see it as in their best interests to serve the artist
also at this time they are desperate and no one does their best from desperation
carrot cake is good but i could not imagine carrot pie

Honorable mention to keylime.
Not a fan of fruit mince pie (but a mince slice is awesome - fig newtonish, but with candied citrus peel in the mix). I do like a Boiled English Christmas Pudding though - and it has a shit load of fruit mince (soaked in rum/brandy) in it.

Actually, cocoa solids are good in large amounts. But the cocoa butter is bad for you in large amounts so the goodness gets cancelled out.
... and so is a good bottle of red wine ;)
