Hey, all! I'm a huge fan of the show, but I just recently joined Rev3, and I've just got a quick question.
After hearing the guys talk about Dexter last week, I'm a bit wary about picking up Season One from Amazon on the off chance that my 30-odd dollars goes to waste. Anywho, I'm a fan of Christian Bale, and after going on a bit of a Wiki-hunt, I found another movie that seems to fit the genre, American Psycho. I was just wondering if anyone had thoughts on either of the two? I might end up renting American Psycho anyways (I don't have Netflix, boohiss I know),but I was just wondering if the two were even comparable? It looks like American Psycho got some rave reviews, but I have a lot of friends that love Dexter, too.
Anyways, any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I only saw the first ten minutes of American Psycho but it was BALLS HILARIOUS. The scene with the business cards is one of my top5 scenes of all time. Maybe my mind is messing with it in retrospect but I was lol'ing so hard.

I'm one of the few people I know who hated American Psycho.
I adore Dexter, though. :)

I've never seen american psycho, but i started watching Dexter when it first aired. I like Dexter. I think the guys just had super high expectations because everyone was talking about the show and pumping it up. It actually is a great show and i doubt you will be disappointed.

I saw American Psycho at the theater like 5 times. I loved it. Where I saw it was great too. It was an old theater and there were never more than 4 or 5 other people watching the movie when i saw it. I know the first couple of times i saw it with a buddy of mine and the other people in the theater must have had no idea it was somewhat of a dark comedy is because we were laughing out loud during certain scenes while other people were walking out in disgust. It is one of the few movie going experience that i will forever treasure. In fact the last time i saw it the only people watching the movie were me and the projectionist. It was a late show i was the only and i was one that showed up. He apparently shared my sick since of humor and let me in for free and even came up to watch the movie himself after locking everything up for the night. That was the last movie i ever saw there because the place shut down a month later.
And Dexter is great but its no American Psycho

American Psycho is a classic. I've definitely gotten my money's worth with that purchase.

Thanks for all the great responses, everyone!
I think I'm going to try watching American Psycho first, and maybe get the first two or three episodes of Dexter on iTunes before I pick up the DVD.

I have to second this. Don't watch the movie - at least until after you read the book. As usual, the book (http://www.amazon.com/American-Psycho-Bret-Easton-Ellis/dp/033048477X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4/105-0020737-5884469?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201001581&sr=8-4) is WAY better than the movie.

You have to take what the TRS guys said about Dexter with a grain of salt. Remember, Jeff and Alex liked it but just weren't blown away. Dan didn't like it but he had only watched 4 episodes, so he really wasn't all that qualified to comment on it. Dan's explanation of why he didn't like it indicated to me that he didn't get some of the nuances and that may have changed had he watched the entire season. I'm thinking his opinion would have ended up more like Jeff's where he didn't love it but also didn't dislike it either.
And for crying out loud, get netflix instead of buying DVD's you haven't seen. It will save you money in the long run and broaden your exposure to TV and movies. Use the TRS code and support the show too.
