Well this was for Alex. Probably most of you know about startrek and probably know about Star Trek Online. Its a new MMORPG coming out sometime this year (have to look for it on the forums) Just thought I might throw out the link for people who liked the shows and want to wait for the RPG.

I was kind of looking forward to this, but wikipedia brought my hype level down three notches.
"As of January 14, 2008, Perpetual Entertainment is no longer developing Star Trek Online. The license for the game and all of its assets except for the code have been transferred to an undisclosed Bay Area development studio. [3][4] The game has not been officially canceled, but its future is uncertain."

not sure how accurate the cancellation news is. it was talked about in last months issue of game informer.
my guess is that it will probably be released sometime when the movie comes out. maybe as a cross promotion deal of some kind. buy the mmo and get a free ticket to see star trek. they do it with dvd all the time and it wouldn't surprise me to see it done with a game.

Do not lose faith, I have some inside info from a good friend who works for a game publisher that purchased the license for startrek online.
Dont worry it will come out, I cant vouch for it being amazing, but I am sure they will use this new license.

Finally, a MMORPG that I might enjoy.
I know I'm gonna get killed for this, but I got bored with WoW. Star Trek though, that's a universe that I can definitely get myself into.

I hoping for it to come out this year if not 1Q of next year. Been waiting awhile (show is intense)

I don't care if the game sucks or is totally awsome. It's Star Trek!
I'm gonna buy it. I want to live in Star Trek.

The company that was making it..Perpetual games(or something like that) sadly within the last month or two closed it's doors and Star Trek Online looks to be done before it ever had a chance.:(

Its back and its looking good! The rights are now owned by Cryptic Studios who brought us City of Heroes and City of Villains. They are also working on Champions Online (one of my favorite all tiem tabletop rpg's)
The website is up and running and the info from them looks promising.
With Cryptic's ability to make unique character generators and fun engaging games, I have high hopes this will rock the MMORPG realms with another great title.
Their website currently is running a contest that if won could net someone a lifetime membership for free! But I think its a limited time offer so better hurry over there.

There is also already a live video of game play to see. I'm down loading the larger trailer now and have not looked at it yet... you guys have any thoughts?

Does anyone have thoughts about this? Or is being a Star Trek geek gone out?
It's happened to me before too where I hang on to something longer than anyone else and end up being too geeky even for the geeks.

I'm not a big MMO person, but I may ive STO a try if it's good, but the idea of being in command of a ship in the Star Trek universe is tempting even if the game is bad.

I'll probably do what I did for WoW, which is wait to see how it goes in the first wave of it's release, as well as wait for various patches and stuff.

That trailer was terrible. "Those who strive for peace... must also prepare... FOR WAR!"
Terrible writing aside, you can't tell shit from the trailer. I've got a feeling it's going to suck though.

I don't understand how they can pull this off. I mean, how many times can you zap a space rat with a phaser without it dieing before it just gets ridiculous?
I'm skeptical, but I'll keep looking out for evidence that it's good.
They should put in time warps and loops and stuff. That way you could have Picard and Kirk.
