What are your thoughts?

**some spoilers***

I saw this with out knowing anything of the movie, it was just mentioned by a friend. I agree the beginning was captivating and incredible. I love the cinematography, ex. the silhouettes in front of the fire, and the first church scene with the removal of arthritis. The acting was amazing and I am speechless over how well it was performed and found the production of the movie to be just as amazing.

Some problems though. I feel that I can only see this movie once. Yes it is very long (don't see the midnight show like i did) I felt that most of the religious scenes and the character of the pastor are out of place. At first I thought it was the same guy (not the brother) pretending to be two people. I only see him as a villain/counterpart to the main character. To me he is a religious hypocrite, he calls the main character a neglectful father, and preaches to the town, but he himself is concerned with the success of his church, himself, and was very quick to demean his own father.

I can see the movie being much of what jeff discussed. But to me i feel that the movie was an expression of the main character and the greed that drives him. Which i think is made very clear in the opening of the movie. I'd like to note the sound of the movie in the beginning, I feel that it is dramatic and at times over bearing, but then is forgotten towards the end. I also feel that much of the movie, because it spans such a long time period, is made up of many short scenes depicting key moments, i am afraid this may not be so easy to follow for some viewers. The name there will be blood leaves me with the felling of more action... or well... more blood. Maybe it is a hint at the ending, which i am not in love with, but i do feel is important to the development of the main character. I feel that his expression of "i'm done" means that he has conquered what he has set out to do and destroyed his enemy (church guy) and that he is satisfied with his life.

I love the character development for the oil tycoon main character. I feel that his humiliation in the church scene, him having to eat sh!t in front of the villagers is testament to how far he will go to succeed and gain wealth. I think the story does show that he did care for his "son" and was grooming him to follow in his footsteps but is lost when his son goes deaf and later moves on to start his own company.
