Water, but if you want a nice piece of Tuna get a tuna steak and sear it. Delicious.

I prefer Tuna served in sushi. I never had a taste for the canned variety. I also like grilled tuna. However, my wife is allergic :(

I meant to put Fresh in the poll but forgot. I've only had it once myself. Prefer Salmon or Orange Roughy.

Ok, ok.. Let's just turn this into the general seafood thread....

Mmmm, Conch when I was in the Bahamas. Delish!

Tuna? Sushi grade. Lightly seared on each side, then thinly sliced.
I'll eat packaged tuna (canned or in the bag) as part of a nicoise salad, or tuna bake.

also love lobster, but not a crab fan. too much effort for too little food.Love crab cake. HUGE fan of the Maryland idea of the crab cake eggs benedict. Apart from that - I am with you, too much work for not enough return.

Unfortunately, despite the fact I love shellfish, it doesn't love me. I react to the histamines in shellfish, and get a headache to rival the worst hangover I have ever had. Popping an anti-histamine reduces the after effects to a dull throb.

bummer. I absolutely love shrimp cocktail. And Clams Casino. thing is, I absolutely hate clams, oysters, mussels, etc... when right out of the shell. Tastes like ... er.... not gonna say it ;)

Oh. Fellow Aussies... help me out...I remember a little fried seafood snack they sold at the beaches, been 34 years, totally drawing a blank...

One of those fake crab things dipped in batter and deep fried. Damn they are good. Also a fan of a battered sav :)

Nice big tuna steak ,dipped in coconut milk and coated with crushed Macadamia nuts, and then lightly grilled on the outside. Slice paper thin with your sushi knife (if you have one, if not, a really sharp, long, thin blade will do), and dip in a pineapple/soy sauce.

It's like a taste of Hawaii.

I've never heard of a Calamari steak before though, any info? I'm a big time foodie, and I love to try new recipes.

Food for thought- about the texture of Calamari- When cooking Calamari, and you're worried about tenderness, if you cook it hot, you have to cook it fast. But, if you cook it at a lower temp, it will get tough as you go along, and then get soft again. At least that's what I remember from the Good Eats episode that dealt with squid. (Squid Pro Quo)

How did your tripe come? Was it in a brine?

Oh, and I like my Calamari with extra tentacles! :D

Truthfully, I love it any way. Seared, fresh in sushi, or canned. Sometimes I prefer the canned in oil because I can feel my body needing the fat, sometimes in water. Tuna salad, tuna sandwiches, grilled cheese with tuna. I also like to drain it and add in a bit of garlic powder and lemon pepper and a lot of lemon juice, like half a cup, and eat it as a snack. I love me some Tuna Helper with more than a can of tuna and some fresh broccoli added in. My life's not complete without a dozen or so cans in the cabinet. I, um, even keep snack packs of tuna in the car and at work...

Oh gods, if Cody wasn't about to make chicken stir-fry and fried wontons, I'd go finish off the Tuna Helper last night and open a can to drown in lemon.

My mouth is watering now.

Anyone ever had shark? Does it taste like chicken? :)

I'm an idiot. It was nothing more exotic than fried scallops.Don't be so hard on yourself :) ... by scallops do you mean diver scallops (often not really scallops but manufactured seafood like "krab"), or potato scallops (sliced spuds dipped in batter and deep fried). I enjoyed both.

what's sav?A sav is a saveloy, which is a type of sausage that is like a kielbasa. A battered sav is pretty much the Aussie equivalent of a corn dog (except battered in a beer batter instead of a cornmeal batter).

Anyone ever had shark? Does it taste like chicken? :)Most of the fish you get in fish and chips shops in Australia (especially Vic) is shark. They call it "flake" but in reality its just shark. It is a firm, slightly oily fish that stays moist. The place near where I lived used to let you pick the fish from the selection in the window, and select the cooking style. I love me the battered and deep fried flathead (if you have a fish tank, think 18"+ plecostamus).

Nope, real scallops, kinda flat, size of a quarter, maybe?

Sounds awesome, don't remember them. I remember Big Ben meat pies and sausage rolls which they sold outside the school gates to kids who were sick of the food at the school.

Fried scallops are pretty good. Scallops are good in general IF they are cooked properly AND if they're actual real scallops. Speaking of scallops and shark, shark is often used in "fake scallops".

where do you folks get your seafood? supermarket, specialty store, offa fishermen on the wharf?

Other than canned tuna I don't get enough seafood in my diet. (despite the mercury issue). But it's so expensive inland.

I currently live the furthest from the sea I have lived in 25 years. I miss fresh seafood from the fish co-op (straight off the boat). We have a cople of places that have good seafood sections though - the local Food Lion is fine for catfish and other random fish fillets (I have flounder tonight), but Harris Teeter and Lowes (not the hardware store) have good meat/seafood secitons locally as well. If there is something I really need though, I'll head into town to Whole Foods. They'll bend you over on the prices, but its always good quality.

it's on a polluted lake. no one eats anything from that fetid body of water.

yeah, we got some nice fresh seafood stores, too, I'm sure every good sized city does, but the prices are beyond my budget. I'll just get frozen at BJs Wholesale.
