Yet another great episode!!
I was a little scared when I 1st read the title, I thought there'd be a quick throw away episode.. but it turned out awesome..
I love the fact, that they are keeping in a positive mood. I laughed when they talked about the Law & Order.
(Just in case you 3 are reading.. You all did a kick ass job on the Site, keep up the good work)

Awesome episode.
The last episode was a behind the scenes look at the studio. This episode was a behind the scenes look at the website. Could we possibly see a behind the scenes taping of an episode (for any show, it doesn’t necessarily have to be the Gazette)? Possibly see what goes on from concept to completion?

No, they have a separate field camera that they use.

That was an excellent and unexpected episode. My question is, what is this:

Yeah, I wondered about that "Live Reel" thing too! Maybe another thing that got accidentally(?) leaked through the Gazette? :D
Oh and BTW, totally awesome episode!

Wow...Sarah still looks like she's under the weather. Hope she feels better.
This was a good episode nonetheless.
As far as a taping of behind the scenes, I don't know how much extra you can pull from a show like maybe Diggnation, but it might be possible to get a good amount of behind the scenes stuff from shows like Systm, Tekzilla, or TRS. For Systm, we could see what D Randolph goes through when choosing a topic and what he does to bring the project together. Tekzilla would be interesting to watch Patrick go around testing whatever item(s) the show is going to be about, and for TRS, we could follow their research, as in watching the gameplay, or going to the comic shop or whatever, or watch the backgrounds get made.

I for one really enjoyed the episode. As a web developer/designer myself, I can definitely relate to a lot of the frustrations (*cough* IE compliance *cough*), and I understand how much work goes into a complete overhaul of a site like this, especially with the transition to dynamic content. There's a lot that could be nitpicked with the new site (I won't though, tempting as it is), but in case you guys don't hear it often enough: thanks for the job very well done and I look forward to seeing what you guys have in store for future point releases! :)

I just watched the episode, and I think it was you who was talking about how you had your computer setup as a sever, and you had the site as like a double to test things and all that. I was wondering how do I go about doing that with a computer, what software, etc etc is needed.
Thanks, good episode too!

You guys annoyed me more now, website dident have no latest list for ages.
I coded my own (http://i-am-still-spamming-my-own-site.com/), came back to Rev3 and you guys have it now :)

Great episode, how about their own WebDevelopment show, their not experts but good show.
P.S. I blame "Ron Richards?" for bad project management for missing this "latest video list". Tut tut..

Awesome new site.
I really like how each show page feels like its own website. The host bio links are cool as well. I found Dave R's bio quite humorous. The show thumbnails are big which is good because I normally view Revision3 on my TV. You guys really acted fast at putting in the latest releases section in. This is how I normally watch Revision3 content so I was kind of lost without it.
My only suggestion is to make an episode rating system. Nothing fancy just an option for liked or disliked. This is probably already in the works but thought I would mention it.

Personally, I use EasyPHP for local testing. Comes pre bundled with Apache/MySQL/PHP so no configuration needed between them. Dead easy to setup and use. If WAMP doesn't work for you, EasyPHP should be able to.

Glad you liked the bio, funny thing is that it was never written to be my bio. It actually started as an email i sent to Patrick one day when he kept bugging me for contact info, he kept asking over and over and over so as a joke i wrote that mini story as an auto biography about myself, they shorten it up and pulled out my phone numbers, blood type(B). I originally kept writing continuations and other life facts about me. My favorite bio is Jeff Rizzo's.

Great episode! Kind of like the others said: Didn't sound cool, but it ended up being the opposite =).
And now, a rant: Mark! Mark! It's not My Sequel! It is MySQL! It is pronounced /maɪˌɛskjuːˈɛl/ "my S-Q-L" and has been confirmed by both the dude from MySQL and the guys who made SQL a "standard." Plus, why would you read the abbreviation of one thing as something else?
Kudos ;)

It was Mark.. not Ron. :) In Mark's case, he has a MacBook Pro running OSX and NetBSD (http://www.netbsd.org) running as a VM under VMWare Fusion (http://www.vmware.com/mac).

As a professional sound engineer.... oh how I want to fix your audio!!
...yes, the new studio needs to be treated for reverb/reflections, but go easy on that gate!
When you set the threshold too high, and the release too short, it start_ clippin_ off word_.... room noise is cool, jumpy audio is hard to listen to :)
:D:D:D
Love the show!

I noticed a lot of issues during the last DiggReel. It's either the noisegate cutting off the tail of reverb, or it's the editing that's cutting it off.
I'm really glad though that they found the proper levels for the theme music. The older episodes of Diggnation would be clipping all over the place causing nasty distortion.

What's the OS market share for people browsing Rev3? Just curious.
I'll guess:
- 75% Windows
- 15% Mac
- 10% Linux

Sorry guys,
The last show in the control room was marginal, but this show was really boring. What's with the middle guy and all the managerial baloney? How about more fun stuff with Sarah and Martin?

I liked this episode. That's good they got a nice content management system now. I can't wait for all the new features, especially the video integrating with the forums so you can post comments on an episode while watching. Hopefully it will use Ajax so it won't refresh the page after posting a comment.

ok, so the last two episodes almost make up for VC Baby.
I know I've bitched about the new site, but at least the effort is appreciated... (I just hate bright, busy sites...but at least they don't use a flash for the mainpage, and I can actually navigate with colours forced to my system colours.)
...I'd bitch about the moving backgrounds, but it fit here.

Completely agree. But the biggest gripe I have about the whole site is that the videos don't buffer. If I'm on my laptop using a slower cdma based connection it's jerky as all hell. I can't pause it, wait for it to buffer then enjoy. I've abstained from visiting this site many times because of that.

site seems to be sorting itself out a little now, like upcoming shows on the main page is what i also missed right away but can now see, yeah, these guys are trying and i appreciate it, the shows are part of my life, thats why i'm pretty sensitive about the tweaking with it, like everybody else here.
saw some dates on the upcoming shows pushing the picture down below the rest of the shows, i don't know if thats my safari browser needing something or not.

It was nice to see Sarah again, even if it was only briefly! Hope she is recovering from whatever was ailing her (and I don't think she looked under the weather at all?)
The last couple of shows have been great! If they keep pumping out this stuff, they will have another top show for Rev 3. I think Sarah, David R. and Marty should all team up and each week give us a run down of whats been happening in the world of Rev 3 during that week.
Marty and Sarah can run around and pester and prank with all the other Rev 3 employees, and also see what they have been up to during the week, and Dave can give a tech rundown of things he has encountered.
I know I would love to watch something like this.
Anyways keep up the good work guys! :)

We're working on the Wii/Opera viewing experience. Alot of users have been reporting issues there - we want it to work on the Wii as much as you do (we have one here at the Rev3 office as well as I have one at home) so be patient, we'll get it fixed soon!

heh - that story implies you grew up on a farm and then went to arts college to get away from studio engineering... what sort of studio engineering is there on a farm?! (heh, I suspect it's the shortening you mentioned...)
This is what I get for being home at dinner while this was being taped (and for not watching it until now) - I would have smacked Mark about some misinformation he gave. ;)
1) No Linux was used in the making of this website. (well, except for the host running VMWare under Linux that we were running NetBSD VMs on)
2) He doesn't actually develop on a FreeBSD system, it's NetBSD! :)
3) No mention of our super-kewl revision control software that we use to track changes in the web code: monotone! ( http://monotone.ca )
