View Full Version : Dropping

Does anyone else find it hard to drop a title from their pull list? I'm not too happy with New Warriors right now + a few others (Penance: Relentless, The Order and Marvel Zombies 2 are on the potential drop list too, but they finish up in an issue or two so I might as well stick with them). I just feel a bit guilty about dropping something after reading it for a while. Is that weird? Do you think you should drop something after a couple of issues that let you down or drop at the first sign and come back a few months later? I just can't see New Warriors (and maybe even Mighty Avengers in a way) going anywhere.
Any thoughts on dropping?

I drop 'em pretty easily. An ideal week for me used to be seven. Now it's 2 or 3. This has a little to do with budget and even more to do with time and energy.

For me it's between 3 and 4 a week. Amazing Spider-Man isn't making it any easier to keep the pull to a minimum.
I guess I can always pick something back up if things get better. It's kind of annoying that something becomes a routine and then the comic goes down hill... and you feel bummed.
I guess dropping means I can read new things. I really need to get out of this Marvel funk that I'm in. I don't think I've read anything but Marvel in a few months. Help.
After re-reading The Order #7, I don't want it to go :(.

I have been finding it easier to drop since I started getting more into trades. This allows me to go back in and pick up the trade at a later date if I hear that the quality of the series picked up again.
But there are still books like The Order that I feel like I am reading for the potential of what it will hopefully be and not really what I am currently reading.
Usually the indication that I need to drop a title is when I stop reading in the middle of an issue and realize that I don't care what happens in the story. Once that clicks then I drop it immediately.

Nah. I agree with Papes here. I drop books with ease.
There is no reason to spend money on something you either don't enjoy or feel is subpar. Considering the wealth of choice one has in comics and other media; don't waste your precious time & money on that which you feel is merely "adequate" or continue to buy in the hopes it will improve.
Just drop them. Nothing bad will happen. And if you are really curious- quarter bins and trades will do the trick.

Do you have a hard time stopping a TV show after it jumps the shark?
If no, then why would it be any different for something you pay for.
If yes, may I suggest you seek some help (http://www.ocfoundation.org/)?

I guess I was just holding out until things improved. But I can see your point. I never really asked anyone about it before so I didn't know if I was crazy to not drop certain titles. Thanks for your input though, I've just cleared a lot off my pull list and I'm looking for new titles as I type this. I think I might read more trades instead to try new things. I wish Suburban Glamour was in TPB right now... I can't find it anywhere in Glasgow.

I have a hard time dropping titles, which is probably why I have upwards of 10 and as many as 20 titles every week.
I'm starting to collect more trades, though, so hopefully I'll be able to pull the trigger on dropping titles a bit more often in the future.

If I don't like something, I drop it. Most likely it will not get better. If it does the ifanboy community will say something about it and those issues will still be there when you decide to go back (if you do.)

foocomics.com (http://www.foocomics.com/ifanboy) but it's something that is designed to work with your retailer. So they would have to use it too.

I find it hard to drop ever since I dropped Civil War exactly 1 week before Captain America 25 came out. It would have been in my box due to it being a tie in with Civil War. Sadly I had to go shell out more money so I could have a first run issue of the death of an American icon >_<

I dropped Countdown months ago. I keep getting calls late at night. I answer, but the only response is some familiar breathing, a click, and a dial tone.
I hit *69 once.
"The number of your last incoming call was 987-654-3210"

For non-creator owned, ongoing comics, my rule was that I would drop a book if there were two consecutive bad issues. Or if I had just not gotten around to reading the comic for two months.

That's a good philosophy to stick by, I think I'll adopt (steal?) it.

Dropping a title is something I do on a case by case basis. If a book has sucked but a new creative team is coming on and I'm intrested in the team I'll hang around. If it's the same team on for awhile then I'll give it till a new arc has started to see if it gets better then I'll drop it. Some books I'll drop if it's a money issue and I'm not loving the book or the writers.

It's gotten to the point where I genuinely hope a new book is bad so I don't have to follow it in single issues (or trades, really).
This is also why I have no problem with late books.
There's so much great storytelling going on out there--to watch, to read, and to listen to--that I cross my fingers I won't have another thing to add to my plate.

There's a couple titles I will get no matter what... Otherwise, my thinking runs very much along with paper. There's just to much good out there to waste your time and money on things that are not. I don't have a hard and fast rule though. I just generally will go through my pull list everyonce and a while and clean it out of books I'm not loving. If it's a creator on a book that I've been enjoying, but there's a bad issue I'm going to give it time to come back around. Likewise with a character I really love. Otherwise, CHOPPING BLOCK!

Can I recommend Comixology (http://www.comixology.com/)? They have a clean and very easy to navigate site, that lists all the coming week's comics, trades, OGNS and merch. You can create your pull list print it out, have it e-mailed to you or whatever. It's just a joy to use.

This guy. Am I right?
High five, bro. It's one of my favorite records as well. Top 5 even.
But seriously, just drop the crap books and trade it up when they're going for $5 on the clearance rack.
Real talk.
