Ok, here's the deal. I need to find a movie for my friend's birthday. The only problem is, we have different taste , and she is not geeky at all (though she did goes as Batman for Halloween; before you guys drool, she's underage). So what I need is a good flick that can ease her into the geek realm, but also something she will really enjoy. She seems to like inspirational, against-the-odds, kinds of movies, so maybe that will help. Her B-Day is thurs. so thanks.
And no, I'm not trying to mack on teenage cooter; she is like a little sister to me.

I think October Sky would be good, it's the first one that came to mind.

It's Thursday so it would be after halloween, I don't know about you but I'm not a fan of halloween movies in November or December.

when i need to bust out some chick flicks I go for the Cusack combos: Serendipity, High Fidelity, Better Off Dead, Gross Point Blank, Beng John Malkovich, it's all good.

The Girl Next Door, you can't go wrong
unfortunately, i don't think she's as cool as you...and most girls probably don't want to watch a movie with Elisha Cuthbert half-naked throughout the movie
...i think i'd recommend either Super Troopers or The First $20 Million Is The Hardest.

I'm not quite sure I know what you mean by that, if it's what I'm thinking then it looks like fushna's suggestion of October Sky may be the only one that's on par.

Sneakers is solid. Good tech based story line, without being over the top geeky.

Girls who don't like movies...I don't understand what you're saying.
Just kidding.
My mother is completely a non-geek movie watcher but two movies with geek qualities that she enjoyed were Frequency and I, Robot or the tearjerker Finding Neverland.
I found that for a non-geek to like a sci-fi/fantasy movie it has to have easily understood concepts, be light on mythology, have a decent heartfelt storyline and some action.
I know, I, Robot wasn't exactly the best movie but I enjoyed it as a fun popcorn flick.

I still say Girl Next Door. It's the ultimate balance between guy and girl movie. She's only half naked for 10 seconds and you even get to see HIM naked!
It's basically an updated version of revenge of the nerds and at the same time, it's a beautiful portrayal of love.
The juice is worth the squeeze.

Just get her a copy of Hitch, Bicentennial Man, Jumanji, and Golden Girls: Season One.

whether she likes the naked Elisha or not... Emile Hirsch is a hottie. AND its a totally cute movie... the juice is most definately worth the squeeze!

"Bad Lieutenant" with Harvey Kietel
See Harvey take drugs. See Harvey abuse nuns. See Harvey, ALL of Harvey!
i was going to say Before Sunset, but then I realized how wrong that would be for a girl you're NOT trying to get with.
i'm a sap for those talky love movies. Richard Linklater's awesome.
god there's so many movies. i sat here for a solid 45 seconds and couldn't come up with anything. you're on your own. go with comedy i guess, although sometimes comedy movies can be such an empty experience.
oh, duh. anything by Kevin Smith. chasing amy, mallrats, clerks. the awesome blend of comedy, drama, and awesomeness.

Hackers is a good one.
Real Genius is another.
Nacho Libre is a winner.

To add to this list, Say Anything (which I think is the greatest movie ever). It's classic. Although it's an 80s movie, it's not dated. Also, what girl doesn't want a Lloyd Dobler?
