Best Actor

Should be: Daniel Day Lewis
Will Be: Daniel Day Lewis

Best Actress

Should be: Ellen Page
Will be: Cate Blanchett

Best Supporting Actor

Should be: Javier Bardem
Will be: Javier Bardem - also reserve the right to say Hal Holbrook. He doesn't deserve it, but he's old. If there's an upset in this category, it'll be Hal.

Best Supporting Actress

Should Be: no personal opinion
Will Be: Amy Ryan or Cate Blanchett. I believe that Blanchett won't win for both. So Amy Ryan if Blanchett takes Best Actress and Cate if she loses Best Actress.

Animated Feature

Should be: Ratatouille
Will be: Ratatouille

Art Direction

Should be: There Will Be Blood
Will be: There Will Be Blood

Cinematography

Should be: No Country For Old Men
Will be: No Country For Old Men

To be honest, I wouldn't be upset if There Will Be Blood won here too. It's very pretty.

Costume Design

Should be: Sweeney Todd
Will be: Elizabeth

Directing

Tough category

Should be: the Coens or PT Anderson
Will be: the Coens or PT Anderson

My only gripe here is that Sidney Lumet is missing for Before The Devil Knows You're Dead

Documentary Feature

Should be: no opinion. I've only seen Sicko and didn't necessarily care for it.
Will be: Sicko.

Documentary Short

No opinions at all. Haven't seen any of them and probably never will

Film Editing

Will be: No Country For Old Men

Foreign Language Film

No opinions at all. Haven't seen any of them and probably never will

Makeup

Will be: La Vie En Rose

Score

Should be: 3:10 To Yuma
Will be: Atonement

Music

I'm guessing Once

Best Picture

Should be: There Will Be Blood
Will be: No Country For Old Men

Here's why I say this. There Will Be Blood came out late and slow. I know that voters get screeners, but I'm willing to bet that more people have seen Old Country than There Will Be Blood. No Country is an excellent, worthy movie. It's not a travesty.

Short Film Animated

No opinions at all. Haven't seen any of them and probably never will

Short Film Live Action

No opinions at all. Haven't seen any of them and probably never will

Sound Editing

Should be: There Will Be Blood
Will be: There Will Be Blood

Will be: No Country

Transformers can kiss my cock. I will shoot my television if it wins anything.

Visual Effects

Will be: The Golden Compass

Writing Adapted Screenplay

Should be: No Country
Will be: No Country

Honestly one of the finest adaptations that I've ever seen.

Writing Original

Should be: Juno
Will be: Juno

Wouldn't be upset if it's Lars and the Real Girl, but it would be a bit of an injustice.

Each pick is worth 10 dollars. The person who gets the most correct picks wins all of the money that everyone bet. But, since I obviously don't want us to use real money we're using Nollars or No-Dollars.

They probably don't play these ads elsewhere (as they're obviously designed to woo Academy voters), but I've already heard two ads this morning touting the original score from Atonement.

Just based on that alone, I predict it to win for Original Score (and it is a good score).

I've also heard ads specifically touting the SCREENPLAY for Michael Clayton.

I still think that will go to Diablo Cody, though. She's got the kind of story/presence that will go over well.

Giving this thread another bump. Two days left, people.

Also, IFC (http://www.ifc.com/film/film-news/2008/02/fake-names-real-oscars-five-no.php) has posted five oscar nominees who don't exist. This list included Roderick Jaynes, nominated this year for No Country.

The Coen brothers have always been fond of creating characters not just on screen, but off. For the restoration of their first film "Blood Simple," the Coens went to the trouble of including an introduction from Mortimer Young, a dapper (and completely fake) older gentleman whose company Forever Young Films was credited with the newly struck print of the 1985 thriller. "Blood Simple" also marked the introduction of Jaynes, one of the most respected film editors in the business, if one of the most elusive. In addition to penning introductions to the published versions of the Coens' screenplays for "Barton Fink," "Miller's Crossing" and "The Man Who Wasn't There," Jaynes was celebrated as one of Entertainment Weekly's 50 Smartest People in Hollywood last year and had been previously nominated for an Oscar for "Fargo" in 1997. However, when Variety checked whether Jaynes was a member of the American Cinema Editors organization, they heard crickets. Don't fear the same awkward silence on Oscar night if "No Country for Old Men" wins best editing; when asked in 1997 what would occur if Jaynes won for "Fargo," Academy executive director Bruce Davis responded, "The Oscar will simply be accepted on behalf of the Academy by the presenters."Did this come from the Coen brothers, or Paper? Definitely sounds like something he would do. Perhaps Roderick is in need of a Twitter? ;)

I'm really annoyed that it's starting at 8:30. I thought it was 8:00. I planned for that.

For those not following along in the academy awards chatter thread (where you can find specific numbers) Fred and I tied, in a last minute iFanbase controversy. ;)

I demand a recount. I got 9 of them I think, but as I guessed at almost all of them that weren't Daniel Day Lewis or No Country for Old Men, I abdicate my position.

Yes you did. For some reason Animated and Visual Effects were at the end of my spreadsheet, but not the end of the list I posted here. Because of that, your choices got lost in the shuffle. You happened to get both of them right. That's 9 for you, total.

Just checked to make sure similar things didn't happen to anyone else, and to my knowledge they did not. Anyone who'd like to challenge me, feel free.

I challenge! More on principle though. My name is Blair. I should have won. That is all.

I challenge! More on principle though. My name is Blair. I should have won. That is all.You were very close.

It all came down to foreign film, a category I put in as filler. Everyone, aside from me and ACBG (who didn't bet on the same one as me) bet on the same movie. When that movie lost, and my wild guess won, I got ahead by a point. That point kept me ahead through the entire pool, as I only won by one. Very close. It was quite exciting! I should have used more filler. They were probably the most exciting. We all guessed fairly the same on the bigger categories.

Next month is when all the oscar films start to pour in.

Let's see:

Picture: After the success of The Dark Knight, possibly a BP nod? Also, Revolutionary Road, The Road, The Exchange and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Direction: Spike Lee for Miracle at St. Anna? Or maybe Clint Eastwood will receive yet another oscar nod for his work in The Exchange? Also Sam Mendes for Revolutionary Road. Others: David Fincher, Christopher Nolan, Gus Van Sant and Mike Leigh.

Actor in a Leading Role: Sean Penn in Milk? Or Benicio Del Toro in Guerrilla, Frank Langella in Frost/Nixon, Leo DiCaprio for Revolutionary Road/Body of Lies, Viggo Mortensen for The Road, Jamie Foxx for The Soloist and Richard Jenkins for The Visitor. Or an ever bigger though, Josh Brolin for Oliver Stone's W.? How about Sir Ben Kingsley for Elegy and Brad Pitt for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button?

Actress in a Leading Role: Maybe Kate Winslet for Revolutionary Road? Or La Streep for Doubt? Oscar loves Mike Leigh's leading ladies, so maybe Sally Hawkins for Happy Go Lucky? As well as Angelina Jolie for The Exchange and the English actresses going period drama with Keira Knightley in The Duchess and Emily Blunt in The Young Victoria.

Actor in a Supporting Role: Obviously choice is a posthumous oscar for Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Why not? Or...Philip Seymour Hoffman in Doubt, Emile Hirsch/Josh Brolin for Milk, Robert Downey Jr. for The Soloist and Russell Crowe for Body of Lies. There's also Michael Sheen, shamefully snubbed for The Queen in another biopic, Frost/Nixon. Or even Ralph Fiennes for The Duchess.

Actress in a Supporting Role: Possibly Penélope Cruz for Vicky Cristina Barcelona? A double nod for Kate Winslet in The Reader? Her Revolutionary Road co-star Kathy Bates? There's also Viola Davis/Amy Adams for Doubt and yet ANOTHER nod for Cate Blanchett for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. So what do you think about academyawardsfan.com ...
