Whenever I post 'em this early you know I've got a project to do on Wednesday morning.

My life's gonna be a lot different two months from now.

I'll have finished the script I've been working on (scrapping, drafting, blah blah blahing) for a year and a half, I'll be a college graduate, and I'll be laid off from work (my job is seasonal; we're rehired in July).

I'll be looking for a new job, but in my time off I'm going to attempt to get a driver's license (I use the train mostly), juggle, study and practice photography, write some short films, and launch headlong into freelance writing.

We'll call it Paper 2.0

Also, can we call it the second draft of The Paper, or some equally obvious pun, instead?

Maybe Recycled Paper?

For some reason this reminds me of the year (2003) when I awoke and announced "things gotta change!" I declared it the Year of the Dynamo!!!! and would announce roughly 4,000 times during that 12 months every time I accomplished anything "they have awakened the dynamo!" I changed jobs, met the woman I would marry, and would lose 50 pounds, but I would nonetheless encourage you to similarly change your life without shouting at friends "you have awakened the dynamo!!!" People, I find, really hate it. A lot.

We'll call it Paper 2.0

I'm picturing a scene where Paper finishes typing this post and then there's an audible hum. A wind picks up, and papers begin to fly around his desk. Suddenly, a brilliant light as a portal in TIME opens up, and a bedraggled time traveler with a cybernetic eye and a giant machine gun emerges.

"Paper," he says, lighting a metallic, future cigar with the flame-thrower end of his giant gun, "I've come back in time to warn you."

"Wh-what?"

"Paper 2.0...it's the end of the world as we know it," says the Traveler. "You don't understand what happens next. In my world, in my time, corporations rule the world with an iron fist. Artists no longer exist...those that remain are hunted for sport by accountants riding on Sabertooth Tigers! And...bell-bottom pants are... permanently IN style."

"But what do I have to do with all of that?"

"My god, man, don't you understand?! You can't publish that story! It keeps everyone so entertained that no one works anymore. Idle governments are overthrown! The Writer's Strike never ends because the WGA disbands, writers scurrying to the corners of the earth! There is no need for anyone to do anything anymore. The PS3 is the last video game console...ever...made... I'm sorry, Paper. But...I can't let this happen. I'm the last best hope of my world, and to save my planet...Paper 2.0 must die!"

I don't like to be all "Oooh, life is AWESOME!" when everyone else is miserable.

Well I'd try to keep it low key, lest I be the girl who "ruined it for everybody." Things would probably be okay until a laid back Friday, when things are fairly slow in the office and the alcohol would be beggining to flow a little heavy. Then I imagine there's a number of different things that could possibly do me in. Maybe verbally threatening the sales reps who annoy me. "Accidently" adding a couple thousand dollars when I cut a check for a sub contractor I'm friends with. Telling customers just how much I care about their problems. Getting caught in the supply closet with our cute UPS guy...

I can't say which one would be the end. I can only say it would be worth it.

One of my co-workers was let go for the season (I only have about a month and a half left myself) and started at a new temp assignment in an office downtown. He has gauged ears and he wears plugs, or tapers or whatever you want to call them. Neither his plugs or my prominent hand tattoo have been a problem in my office. No one ever brought them up.

So at his new job they want him to remove the plugs from his gauged ears. So...rather than have black, unassuming ornaments on his ear lobes, they'd prefer he have the large hole showing? Makes no sense to me.

I think of my dad's hypothetical reaction. He'd think the plugs were just button-sized earrings. Without the plugs he'd spend the whole day worrying the guy might catch his ears on something.

I know it's something similar to that in New York. They're around 7 or so here. I know people who drive to Indiana to buy their cigarettes because they don't have the tax there. But what I was referring to is at least there's some sort of actual logic behind it, ie - smokers increase healthcare costs. At least if my assumption that that's where the extra funds go to.

Serious dedication to the habit. Ignoring health issues and cost, this is the primary factor keeping me from smoking. It's like, why add extra tasks to do during the day? No one likes the physical act of brushing their teeth or trimming their fingernails, but we do it. Why put another routine biological need on the itinerary? That you have to do outdoors and before every trip to the movies or in the middle of dinner. Lame.

I figure I don't need to wish extra ill will upon them when they're already addicted to something that's slowly deteriorating their body. What bothers me is people thinking it's such a great idea to tell businesses how they can be run, just because they don't personally smoke. Out of curiosity does Canada have a lot of smoking bans as well? Those are becoming enragingly popular it seems.It was no smoking anywhere minors were allowed until Jan 1. Now you just can't smoke in, or within 5 metres of, a public place, bars included. I like it. I live in a small town, so there's usually about 10 or so people in the bar on a typical night. At any given time now, you'll see 6 or 7 of them outside smoking.

A lot of my friends smoke. For some reason teenagers seem to think its cool again. Anyways, for a long time last year I decided to pretend I smoked a pack every two days, and just put that extra $30-ish a week away. That adds up quick.

I don't get it. Although, it's not exactly fair for me to say because I have smoked before and may smoke in the future. Whatever that nicotene does just never got it's hooks in me, so I don't even know where they're coming from.

EDIT: By "have" and "may" I mean bumming a cig off someone when I'm drinking or maybe catching a cigar among friends. A very occasional thing, that could probably be counted on one hand within a year.

Eugh. I agree. People don't realize how much it stinks to people who don't smoke. I particularly resent my clothes smelling like smoke when I go home from work too, although it's my choice to hang out with everyone on break when they're smoking. But I still resent them for it.

They say it's to try and eliminate the huge drop-out rate among black students in public schools. So far the people petitioning for it have been the parents of these drop-outs, or parents who fear that fate for their children. Seems a little bit like some sort of strange self-segregation to me. We all admit there is a problem, its just that no one knows how to fix it. Sadly every solution seems to have it's obvious downsides, but at least people are trying to fix things.

Shaq cashes out $23,000 a month on gas
In papers filed for his pending divorce, Shaquille O’Neal stated that he needs at least $2 million a month to live. In his financial statement filed in his Florida divorce case, “Extra” learned that Shaq spends $1,500 for cable TV, $110,000 for monthly vacations, $17,000 for clothing and $26,500 for babysitting.

But of course we don’t care about all that (even if it sounds a bit excessive and crazy). What struck us was the amount of money Shaq spends on gas. We’re just going to give it to you straight. O’Neal cashes out $23,000 at gas stations monthly.

I mean we know he’s got his whole gang to support, but buy some Priuses for God’s sake.

In a world were climate change is very real threat, you have no idea how angry that story makes me.I just don't get it. I don't get how a person can be anti-environmentalism. Let's say theres no such thing as global warming, does that mean that it's going to hurt us to try and prevent that from happening in the future? Bah. I don't know. It upsets me. I'm not the most environmentally sound person I'm sure, but the little things piss me off. Well, and the big things. The things like spending $25000 a month on gas.

Beaumont Inn Kentucky Hot Brown

From Chef Nick Sundberg:

This is a regional favorite that originated at Louisville's Brown Hotel earlier in this century. Many variations can be found, most commonly country ham is added and a cheddar sauce is substituted. This is our version which I feel is closer to the original recipe. It is offered on our lunch menu.

INGREDIENTS:

* 3 ounces turkey breast, roasted, sliced
* 1 slice toasted white bread
* 2 slices tomato
* 2 slices bacon, cooked and drained
* Sauce:
* 2 ounces butter
* 3 ounces flour
* 3/4 cup cream
* 1/4 cup milk
* 1/2 cup Swiss cheese, grated
* salt and white pepper to taste

PREPARATION:
Heat butter and add flour. Whisk and slowly cook for 5 minutes. Whisk in cream and milk and heat. Whisk in cheese until melted. Season. Simmer for 30 minutes. Sauce should be very thick.

Quarter toast and place in an oven safe dish. Top with turkey and tomatoes. Cover well with sauce. Bake at 400&deg for 10 minutes. Garnish with bacon.

Plus I am basically Dan, personality wise. Talk with my hands a lot and get really excited about nerdy things I think are cool but nobody else does. =)

So, I could identify with my Jewish brother on the 'drome.

Oh, I dunno about that.

Sometimes you overstate how far off we are from one another here. Usually the differences are of semantics or in trivial details. Think you'll find more overlap in our likes than dislikes. It's just that we tend to recall the differences more vividly.

I loved the Drome and was floored the day they announced it was done. The TRS forum, I think is probably the closest to the iFanboy forum in the sense of fostering a community within it. The "talk about whatever" is huge, but still, the thing I like the most about here is the general niceness of the folk and trying to be really inclusive and encouraging. It really hits when I wander over to some of the subforums here.

My mechanic informs me that they left the drain plug loose and the oil leaked out, and last night on the freeway it died on me. I got it off the freeway, realized what had happened, added oil, but...alas...it appears the repairs will cost far more than the car is worth.

So, sure, I'm pissed at Jiffy Lube, and I'll try to get compensation from them, but the fact is that it's like giving the wrong medication to a terminally ill patient...she was gonna die soon anyway...

My faves?

29. Having two mean football players snap wet towels at him and shove him into
the steam room which they have turned on to full blast

and

47. Being stuck in a cab in New York rush hour traffic - "You don't understand, I
have to be there by 4:00!" - "Hey, mac, it's rush hour, we ain't gettin' there til five,
so relax." - "BUT I HAVE TO BE THERE BY FOUR!!!"

cam-

Ooooh I like this one too!

80. Accidentally getting stuck in the department store that is being robbed, and
then having one of the thieves lock him in the bottom of an elevator shaft,
underneath a creaky old elevator that is showering sparks, and slipping off of its
cables, yelling "Hey! You've got to get me out of here! It's slipping!", only to
have the 5-ton elevator suddenly fall on him (this one gets points for originality)

this ones just weird:

105. Tied up by same punks and left attached to a bench press machine as bait
for the bodybuilder (played by Lou Ferrigno) and his girlfriend to find and
become upset over, except that David becomes upset first

and of course you've gotta love this one:

115. Trying to help his friend for the episode, the midget wrestler known as "Half
Nelson", by climbing into the ring for him, only to be clobbered by a large, beefy
wrestler who practices numerous combination moves on David, in spite of David
(and Jack McGee)'s numerous cries of "Stop! You don't know what you're doing!
You're making me ANGRY!"

So, sure, I'm pissed at Jiffy Lube, and I'll try to get compensation from them, but the fact is that it's like giving the wrong medication to a terminally ill patient...she was gonna die soon anyway...

And now it's time to shop for a new car.Shitty day isn't it? People are inconsiderate when there's money in the picture.

I'm sorry man, but you'd really let an ipod do that? Hell I'd carry around a tapedeck if it was the difference between me visiting a foreign country or not.

I had a great day. Woke up and it was still snowing, we'd gotten maybe 6-8 inches so I got to put on my big boots and tromp around. I had a warm shower for once, probably because no one bothered to get up. When I got to work my friend Jay invited me over for drinking and playing his new copy of Rock Band tomorrow and I sang and mimiced drums for the next 30 minutes. 30 minutes after that I confided in another friend that I'd really like to go jump into one of the giant snow drifts outside, and he said he'd cover for me. So I bolted outside and flounced around in feet deep piles of snow. I came back in just covered. It was hilarious fun. Work was very slow so I chatted a lot and caught on my comics.

Ahhh, I see. I don't beleive the forum will automatically resize a picture, so you'll have to make it fit the criteria. So when you find the picture on google, right click and save it to your computer. Then use any sort of image editing program to change the size down to 80x80. If you don't have anything you can use an online site like this (http://www.online-image-editor.com/index.cfm). Then upload it to rev3.

So at every job until my last one my bosses have mistakenly given me a cheque twice at some point in time. I just called it luck. What do I get in the mail today, over a month after quitting? Why, a cheque for over three hundred of course. A cheque marker for November of 2007. I have already been paid for all of November and December, so I know this is a mistake. Guess, what else costs $300? That iPod that was just stolen. Looks like that laptop is still in my future.

I love it when that happens...

Edit: The getting money when it's not yours, not the stolen iPod...

Edit: The getting money when it's not yours, not the stolen iPod...It's so strange. I don't know anyone else who has had this happen. I've now had it happen four times. I'm glad my morals aren't too strong. Ha.

Well it's only happened like... once... Think of it as a pension for you putting up with them...

The iFanboy website just put up a "Something IS Coming" notice from Josh. My curiosity is peaked. I wanna know what something is.

Hooray! I wasn't sure "it" was going to come, but now that I know "it" IS coming I can sleep soundly tonight.

My day today was spent doing this (http://students.depaul.edu/~rstallar/ani101/spermmorph.mov).

The assignment was to do a hand drawn animation with at least 25 frames, where one thing morphs into another and back again in a cycle. It also had to follow a motion path, hence it moving around the page in a way that otherwise looks a little arbitrary.

I couldn't find the mysterious animation capture device my professor spoke about being in the lab, so it was scanned in by hand on a flatbed; thus, more jumpy than if the pages had been grounded with a traditional pegboard system. Still fun though, besides feeling absurdly tedious for only being 30 frames.

Nice! Hand drawn animation kills me. Don't think I would have paid any mind to animation in the pre-flash days. I'm just lazy.

Quarter of Brits think Churchill was myth: poll

Sun Feb 3, 7:12 PM ET

LONDON (AFP) - Britons are losing their grip on reality, according to a poll out Monday which showed that nearly a quarter think Winston Churchill was a myth while the majority reckon Sherlock Holmes was real.

The survey found that 47 percent thought the 12th century English king Richard the Lionheart was a myth.

And 23 percent thought World War II prime minister Churchill was made up. The same percentage thought Crimean War nurse Florence Nightingale did not actually exist.

Three percent thought Charles Dickens, one of Britain's most famous writers, is a work of fiction himself.

Indian political leader Mahatma Gandhi and Battle of Waterloo victor the Duke of Wellington also appeared in the top 10 of people thought to be myths.

Meanwhile, 58 percent thought Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's fictional detective Holmes actually existed; 33 percent thought the same of W. E. Johns' fictional pilot and adventurer Biggles.

UKTV Gold television surveyed 3,000 people.

I usually dread coming into work every Monday but today was a tad bit different.. A co-worker said "Angela, good news! You tied in the Superbowl pool with someone else. You and the other person got everything right. You two even had the same tiebreaker". So I'm a little bit happy and even happier knowing that there will be a box of comics on my doorstep when I get home later today. :)

I know, crazy right? Cuz I'm thinking...how can you even go through a basic elementary education without getting hit with Dickens at some point?

Maybe they're like the Flat Earth people...they remember that there are these "novels" by a so-called "Dickens" but they believe it's just a government conspiracy or something.
