Predictions? Anyone looking forward to this game? Undefeated NE Patriots VS NY Giants. Those who could care less about the game are you looking forward to the commercials, halftime show, etc?

It's hard to bet against the Patriots at this point but on any given Sunday. Also, I'm really looking forward to the new Iron Man trailer.

I pray for a half time disaster in the vein of the Janet Jackson debacle. I love the scandals.

I predict the amount of verbal blowjobs given by the announcing crew to the Patriots will have incited me to throw my remote through my Big Screen by the end of the first quarter. And that if the Patriots win I'm simply just not going to watch football next year. The only thing in the media that sickens me more than seeing Tom Brady's face every day is having to hear George Bush's voice...

Yeah, I'm in the mood to write a review column now... :D

I predict either a close Giants win, or a Patriots blowout.

After that first drive and the Giants' predictable use of the generally ineffective Brandon Jacobs, I think the latter is more likely.

Man, imagine if I was really paying attention!

Generally ineffective? He only played 10 games this year and broke 100 yards in 6 of them. Doesn't really have a nose for the endzone, but I think he's pretty effective. Plus, he's still playing on a hurt knee which is why he's only getting half the carries now.

Believe me, is level of effectiveness goes down against good teams and as the season went on.

Eh, could be. I only paid attention to him for Fantasy Purposes, and he was a good tank most of the time. I just remember him getting 100+ half the time he played soooo....

I just watched the godaddy.com add that Fox rejected. It's not all that bad. I've seen worse in a commercial.

Man, Janet Jackson shows her boob once, and now, the Superbowl is so conservative that cheerleaders are only allowed to show ankle. :)

I've never been injured watching football until tonight. On the long completion to David Tyree when Eli Manning somehow didn't get sacked and Tyree somehow caught a football with his helmet, I leapt off the couch and fell on the floor. I pinched a nerve in my neck. It hurts. I'm a douche.

Most of the game was disappointingly dull, but the last few minutes was probably a few of the best I've ever seen, especially because Manning had to escape about a thousand (well, not really) guys on his own to throw that long pass that enabled them to get that one run. Without it, there's no way they could have won. Normally I am one to say that the idea of ONE player being the MVP, as if the others didn't matter, is wrong. But, due to that ON moment, there was no one else who could have helped him in any way. He was on his own, and he pulled out. WIN.

Haha, that's hilarious, but that was seriously the play of the game. That put Eli in scoring position. Fuck Tom Brady and fuck the Patriots. That was seriously the greatest Superbowl I've ever seen. It maybe wasn't the biggest upset point-spread-wise. But considering that the Pats were undefeated, and NY was 3-5 at home this year... this was the biggest upset ever.

I'm not a NY fan... but GO Giants.

Exactly. I don't like the team, and hell, I barely expect them to go more than 9-7 yet again next year, but for tonight, they were my favoritest team ever...

jasontodd

Exactly. I could easily see the Giants going 8-8 next year considering they're in the NFC East. Especially if Toomer and Strahan retire. Eli Manning could easily never see the Superbowl again.

For tonight though, he's the king of football.

The best part of this? Randy Moss and Junior Seau still don't have rings. If I didn't hate so much I'd almost feel bad.. almost...

jasontodd
02-04-2008, 06:14 AM
I feel the same way. The greatest part of this game was seeing Vrabel and Seau hug after Brady scored to put the Pats up by 4. You just know that he was whispering to Seau that they had the game in the bag. The only thing better than seeing the 19-0 record crushed, was seeing Seau and Moss cry on the sidelines.

I can't believe I was actually excited watching an NFL game. I was just so sick of hearing about the Pats and listening to the experts so how much ass they could kiss. But seeing Plaxico make the game winning catch made me smile. GO SPARTANS! And Belichick is a classless douche. Go cut the sleeves off some more sweatshirts. ;)

That was my favorite non-movie related commercial. Otherwise, I'd have to put the commercials for Iron-Man and Wanted up there, and that amazing Will Ferrell commercial for Bud Light. "Bud Light... suck one."

Dull? This was an AMAZING game, and I'm not a Giants fan, either. (Jets. What the hell's the matter with me?) It was not a high scoring game, but if you like defense and grit, this was the model game. Any time a Super Bowl comes down to the last Hail Mary attempt, it's a good, good game. I still can't believe that A.) The Giants won, and B.) The Giant D-Line actually got through the Pats O-Line and got to Brady. Repeatedly.

As many times as it was repeated this week... the key to the game was the pressure of the Giants D-Line... and they were great

Absolutely! If one just likes football, this was a VERY entertaining game from start to finish. I hate both teams and wanted them both to lose, but as the game rolled on, I realized I hate the Patriots just a wee bit more.

Giants-Patriots most-watched Super Bowl (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080204/ap_on_en_tv/super_bowl_ratings)

By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer 2 hours, 31 minutes ago

NEW YORK - The New York Giants' thrilling win over New England was the most-watched Super Bowl ever with 97.5 million viewers, a total that is second only to the "M-A-S-H" finale audience, Nielsen Media Research said Monday.

The game eclipsed the previous Super Bowl record of 94.08 million, set when Dallas defeated Pittsburgh in 1996. The final "M-A-S-H" episode, which drew 106 million viewers in 1983, is the only other show in American broadcast history watched by more people.

Sunday's game had almost all the ingredients Fox could have hoped for: a tight contest with an exciting finish involving a team that was attempting to make history as the NFL's first unbeaten team since 1972.

More in link.

Bah. Screw the commericals. This year the game was so good that the commercials hardly mattered. I started the game not really caring about who won or lost, neither team in that interesting to me. As the game went on the hard work, the drive and the sheer will of the Giants won me over to their side.

Finally in the 4th, when Eli fought off two tacklers to make a pass that was made one handed while fighting one of the best safeties in the modern game... that was a pretty special play.

A bit of Superbowl Fun:

Did Tom Petty Lip-Sync? (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/ent/stories/DN-petty_0204gl.ART.State.Edition2.4531d76.html)

Fox airred an Arcade Fire song during the game, but didn't get permission. (http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/news/48452-yes-that-was-an-arcade-fire-song-in-a-super-bowl-ad)

I checked out the AfterElton comment on the Superbowl add with Richard Simmons, but it doesn't seem like many that comment on that thread agree much with the post. There are just too many good, positive things coming out that are breaking down old sterotypes in bold ways (Torchwood, teh making of the Harvey Milk movie with Sean Penn, for example, or many ohter examples) that the superbowl add is just a blip on the radar.

If you go to the main page www.afterelton.com, I did enjoy his translation of "superbowl speak" into "Oscar Awards" speak, for those people dating non sports fans, who then who get dragged to Superbowl Sunday parties. That was funny, and I think this crowd here can enjoy both sides of the translation equally well, and get a good laugh.

But really, wasn't the global break out superstar in sports this week Novak Djocovik victory in Australia? In another thread, I invited people to impale for commenting on something I know little to nothing about about, so impale away... but Novak Djocovik... there is something about that guy....
