I'm not a huge Millar fan. I loved Ultimates 1 and 2, enjoyed his Wolverine and MK Spider Man run, and didn't much care for Civil War. However...

I just read the article in Wizard on his upcoming four titles, and I'm going to at least sample all four. I already read FF, so that's an easy pick. Then Kick-Ass has really looked interesting from day 1, plus, hey, it's JRJr. I hadn't heard of 1985 and his Wolverine book, but they both sound very interesting.

Anyone other opinions on this stuff?

(I also finally realized what moment Civil War lost me at: it was when Iron Man turned to all of those villains to help. "Wow, Captain America and his rebels are proving to be really tough to beat. What should we do? I know! I'll call Venom!")

The wolverine arc sounds like a hardcore action romp in a deliciously horrible and perverted Marvel Universe. Which is generally, outside of a few rarities (his Superman work for example), is where he does his best work.

But the fact that it crosses over with his "all ages" Fantastic Four, has me worried for that book

On the surface level- I like Millar. Ultimates was fun. Unfunnies was vicious. Red Son, of course. Not so much with the Civil War but whatever.

McNiven and Hitch are pretty great as well.

The Fantastic Four and Wolverine are the two Marvel books I actively avoid. At all costs. It's completely irrational too.

Unless you attach Moore/God to those books, I can not read them.

1985 is the only one I'm probably going to buy. Millar has never been anything to me but a slightly above average writer with moments of brilliance and that is too smug for his own good. KICK ASS just seems to be more of his self-perpetuating, and I dug his first Wolvie run but it was just a giant action piece, no reason to go through that again. Really, I think I'm just sold on 1985 because of the Tommy Lee Edwards art I've seen from it. That guy, he's got some talent.

I thought Millar had some self imposed rule that dictated he could not repeat characters. Am I imagining that?

I've liked everything Millar had done. Like, not loved. His Wolverine run was hacking, slashed, and viciousness that I expect from the character. Red Son was interesting enough that I nodding my head acceptingly all of the crazy 90 degree twists on our favorite DC characters. Civil War, the main series, was decent enough. Certainly not Watchmen, but entertaining all the way through (I wouldnt say the same about all of the titles involved in the crossover, but the main series was good).

Kick Ass I am looking forward to. I am hoping Fantastic Four is fun. Wolverine... I'll probably pass and check the trades out of the library. Been there done that. I'll probably get 1985 in trade too.

The first volume of the Ultimates is one of the best books of the last several years, in my opinion. Civil War was great as far as huge company crossovers go. I also think his Ultimate X-Men run gets overlooked for some reason. People seem to be hung up on the fact that it's not just a modern version of the original X-Men, it's something very different, but it's great.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to 1985, which is just such a ridiculous concept that I can't wait to see how it turns out. Tommy Lee Edwards is great, too and it also gives me a reason to finally go read the original Secret War.

Kick-Ass should also be pretty interesting. The other two, I'll probably check out in trade eventually.

Oh, but I am looking forward to Kick-Ass. Both for the sweet Romita art and the prospect of Millar writing a fun superhero story with bite. I like when the guy gets to be a bit more subversive in his comics.
